There is a lot you can do with the free version, if you don’t send invoices more than once or twice a month. Pros It allows me to inexpensively handle my accounting while automating many routine functions. I need to track miles and I can do that in one familiar environment. Cons The part I like the least is describing individual trips. That is not a fault of the tool, it automates recurring trips. However, it is a task I do not enjoy. Cons I do not like how it requires certain accounts from my bank to be linked to the software. This creates inaccurate money tracking. President Automotive Used the software for: 2+ years ### "It works better when you take a class" December 2, 2025 5.0 I opened my own business and had to learn to classify all my expenses and categorize them into taxable or non taxable transactions. I had to set everything up as I had a custom business model and there were no presets which was difficult until I decided to go take a class. After the class I was more informed but there was a large chunk of learning left. After my first year everything pops into place with the things I have set up. Pros The learning curve was not to bad for a first time user. I would highly recommend taking a class yearly so you can keep up to date on all of its functions and features. Cons I’m just not as happy with the mobile device functions as I could be. All functions on a desktop should be available on the application of a mobile device whether it be a tablet or a phone. I am familiar with connecting the system to my bank but i am not good with General ledger entries Pros We use this for our bookkeeping and accounting needs for our small business, it helps us to maintain security of our transactions and to keep up to date with payments and receivables. It is still a learning curve for us but it seems easy to use for our accountant Cons I am not great at navigating it but after all i don't do the books or bookkeeping at my business. Pros The mobile app has been integral to keeping up with cataloguing receipts on the go. You can simply snap a receipt with your phone's camera and the app will automatically match it with any expense. And categorizing expenses is as easy as swiping right or left. Both the app and the browser version have made finding deductions and filing my quarterly taxes so much easier. I don't know how I would have done this accurately without quickbooks. Cons I wish there were ways to search individual transactions by category, or type. At times I have a difficult time sorting through past transactions or figuring out what each was. Cons The website times out before you can save an invoice. This happened many times and I lost hours of work. There is no way to change it! My invoices have many items and it takes me time to go through my notes and my calendar to compile it. If the designers of the software did billing, they would actually know that. Please add a feature to not get timed out. Also their customer service is not available on weekends. Like many self employed I do my billing on weekends and I cannot get any help. However their homepage has customer service available for new customers 24/7. It seems new business is more important that paying customers. Reason for choosing QuickBooks Solopreneur I chose it to help with billing but frankly I have lost a lot of time being timed out of work. I am very disappointed. If you haven't already try signing into your Self Employed app. Then, tap the top-left corner and swipe down. Tap "Touch ID and Passcode". Assuming the TouchID is toggled on, there'll be a "Require" setting. Tap on it to adjust this to a longer timeframe to cut down on sign-outs. Owner, Operator Veterinary Used the software for: 2+ years ### "It was great, and then they made it terrible" June 22, 2022 2.0 I used to tell everyone how great it was and then they made the self employed app no longer functional. Invoices can't be organized by date, it is riddled with errors that have prevented me from being able to update my business address for over 8 months now (in spite of them promising a fix every time) and to top it off discounts can no longer be added to an invoice. It is really remarkable how they took something so great and have managed to make is so dysfunctional . Pros One of the best things about QB self employed was that I had everything organized at my fingertips all the time. Cons Unfortunately, the customer service on the product is abysmal. Everything has to be "escalated" to engineering and then they somehow not only fail to fix the problem but actually oftentimes manage to make it worse. I have an email receipt, but Intuit appears uninterested in fixing my problem. I have been passed from one inept rep to the next and asked the same questions without resolution. I would LOVE a refund at this point, but Intuit points me to Apple since I purchased the product with Apple Pay. Pros I initially thought the functionality would be handy, however, I have changed my mind. I am unable to create an invoice due to a glitch in Intuit’s billing. Cons I have spent over 20 hours in the last two weeks trying to access the product I paid for 6 months ago. Customer Service is inept at best and I have yet to receive the promised callback from anyone I have spoken with. Pros That it tracked your traveling and helped you gain a goo idea of how much you may have spent on vehicle outgoings. Cons Submitting tax returns was incredibly hard and I feel the calculations were incorrect. In otherwords that data is gone unless I keep paying for QB self employed for life.
