But i would have to do a lot more experimentation before i committed to using it for tutoring a client. I think the Zoom system was easier to get used to. Will not give up because I think this does provide a good teaching platform once the user becomes more familiar with the operation. October 12, 2021 5.0 Lessonspace was instrumental in helping me switch my business from in-person to online during the pandemic. Having the best online whiteboard out there has been crucial to serving my students. Pros Since I have a very simple, one-person tutoring business, there are a lot of features I don't use. I don't have integration with an LMS, for example, and I haven't run group classes. However, the features I do use--the whiteboard, audio, and video--are, by far, better than anything else I've tried. Having Lessonspace lets me keep providing the best possible service to my students and their parents. Cons I like this software a lot. There are a few, minor things that could be improved, but overall it's head and shoulders above the other whiteboard options out there. The least trivial of Lessonspace's few drawbacks is that it helps a lot if students play with the tutorial before you have your first session with them. Lessonspace can work slightly differently on different browsers, and, of course, it helps a lot of the student has a low-latency, low-jitter, high-speed internet connection. I've sometimes used Skype, FaceTime, or even Zoom (ugh) with students for a first meeting, if the student isn't ready to get familiar with a new whiteboard and/or has wifi trouble. Reason for choosing Lessonspace I needed an HTML4 whiteboard, because I use a lot of pdfs. Scribblar's new HTML4 whiteboard looked good, but it was in the final stages of beta testing when I needed to switch. That made me a bit nervous. And I had to break up big pdfs and mount the smaller files one by one, which would have been a pain in the butt. Bitpaper and Jamboard handled pdfs terribly. If you enlarged a pdf, the resolution was terrible. Furthermore, Jamboard makes it a pain to upload files from anything other than Google Drive, but I store everything on Dropbox. Cons L'ajout de fichiers sur la plateforme est très inégal; les documents words sont convertis en pdf et ne peuvent pas vraiment être modifiés. Il faut ajouter des zones de texte... les outils de modification et de formatage de texte sont limités et ne permettent pas un usage optimal. Le partage d'écran devient l'équivalent d'un troisième écran d'utilisateur; ajuster la taille de la fenêtre et tenter de jongler avec les différents affichages est une perte inutile de temps. Le tableau blanc est très imparfait, l'ajout d'image ne fonctionne pas de façon efficace. Je perds souvent mon temps à tenter d'ajuster le format des images pour qu'elles soient visibles sans pour autant occuper 500% de l'affichage. Si les images sont annotées et ensuite déplacées, les annotations ne suivent pas automatiquement l'image. Il faut cadenasser chaque élément individuellement... Le fait de devoir tout gérer séparément rend l'expérience utilisateur particulièrement désagréable. Dans un onglet ''document'', l'affichage n'est pas le même pour la personne dirigeant la rencontre et la personne qui y assiste. Il faut donc indiquer aux utilisateurs de descendre plus bas sur la page... sans être en mesure de les guider. Je préfère alors créer de nouveaux onglets pour ne jemais dépasser 2-3 pages de contenu dans chacun d'eux. Malheureusement, il est impossible de lier les onglets sous formes de dossiers ou de catégories. La gestion du contenu devient donc rapidement problématique. Kitti always responds promptly and goes above and beyond! There is no hotline to call, but the email support is great and they even set up a virtual classroom meeting when I first started to make sure that I understood the platform and had all of my questions answered. I have no complaints about my LessonSpace experience! Pros As I was starting my tutoring business, having a virtual classroom to teach my lessons in was critical to my business. I tried a lot of different virtual classroom platforms, and nothing was as thorough yet user-friendly as LessonSpace. My students also really like it because of the cool features like multi-colored pens, different backgrounds, and the emojis in the chat! I love having the whiteboard to write on. Zoom is meant for just conversational meetings, not teaching a math lesson where you need to show step-by-step algebra. I use LessonSpace for everything I teach, and try to recruit others to the platform as well. Its ease of use and features make it my favorite - I feel so likely to have found it! Cons The default screen is black, which is dark and doesn't look nice. I always change it to white to keep it light and brighter in the classroom, but I don't think it changes on the student's end. I have asked about this, but am not sure if the classroom is automatically light for the students. November 23, 2022 5.0 Overall, the Lessonspace is an extremely valuable tool and I would recommend it to any online educators or teachers. The whiteboard space, file-sharing and document-writing features are particularly useful alongside the audio-visual and chat tools. I have used many other platforms and the Lessonspace is the best value for money and the easiest to use by far. I highly recommend it. Pros This platform is easy to use, has lots of features to make lessons more interesting and engaging to students, and is excellent value for money. Educators can lead sessions, restrict students from certain actions and allow for more collaboration. Files can be shared with students, subject-specific features are available and the whiteboard space is great for mind-mapping ideas, drawing out examples and student collaboration. Cons The tabs along the top can be overwhelming for students, especially if you are using multiple tabs during one lesson (and you have a backlog of previous tabs still there). The timer tool does not show up unless you hover on it, which is frustrating when teaching students with ADHD or other SEN that may benefit from seeing the timer count down on screen. Students like to download their work from the whiteboard as a PDF, but currently the Lessonspace only allows png downloads, which can be frustrating if there is a lot of text or information on the screen. Pros Lessonspace is a good, above average software. They try to fix bugs pretty quickly and it's a great "bang for your buck." The integration it has with Teachworks, our tutoring management software, is great. Cons For a few months, lesson space had buggy issues with connection, and video software.
