### "A powerful, practical, yet very simple software with a friendly and comfortable interface."

July 8, 2025

5.0

My experience in my work is clear. I've been working with Cubase for nearly 15 years, and I've recorded, mixed, mastered, and released over 40 music tracks using this software.

Pros

As a composer who's worked with all sorts of music recording software for the past 15 years, I can confidently say that Cubase is one of the most efficient, simplest, yet powerful, and by far the most flexible music recording software out there. The music I create isn't very complex; some of my pieces are made with twelve or thirteen layers. But for me, someone who makes simple music, it's really important that the software environment is straightforward and understandable. I avoid unnecessarily complicated software and view any exaggerated attempts to make tools seem more important with suspicion. In my opinion, Cubase makes it easy to move and mix the different layers I've recorded, including guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, and vocals. It lets me easily adjust their volumes, maintain balance, and generally gives me a clear overall picture of the software.

Cons

There's nothing I dislike about this software. I think they could strengthen their plugin support, but it's excellent as is.

I thought the previous software's interface was very complex and difficult.

### "Best value for a Pro Result"

October 24, 2024

5.0

I’ve been using Cubase since version 4 and have continues to upgrade every couple of years.

Pros

Cost to performance ratio by the far the most competitive. You can spend more but you wouldn’t end up with better end result.

Cons

They change around some of the ‘quick keys’ from one version to the next. Requires a little relearning.

Alternatives considered

[Live](https://www.capterra.com/p/186429/Live/)[Logic Pro](https://www.capterra.com/p/214597/Logic-Pro/)

Reason for choosing Cubase

Cost as well as previous experience with Cubase. Cubans has always delivered so there’s been no need to change.

### "Promising at first, but couldn't keep up with the competition."

August 29, 2024

3.0

Primarily a solid DAW for beginners at a reasonable price. However, if you're transitioning from basic production to professional studio work and live performances, you may encounter some features that don't function as expected.

Pros

The pricing, nice MIDI editor, note expression and expression maps

Cons

It crashes often Interface is too chaotic for me Can't zoom with trackpad on my laptop Sampler is very limited in terms of options for sound design Lack of automation for most parameters Not really good live performances compared to other competitors Doesn't recognize Audio interface and microphone Not too many instruments to choose from as well as Reverbs are not great

Great software, especially Cubase 5, it is the best when rewired.

Pros

Recording voices and mastering a song feels great on good monitors.

Cons

### "Cubase, the exemplary daw for audio recording lovers"

August 15, 2021

5.0

Cubase has provided me with functionalities that I didn't find in other daws, it is easy to use even though it is created to compose more elaborate works, it has a good quality/price ratio and in my opinion, it is the most complete daw on the market.

Pros

Cubase is an incredible daw if we want to combine the best of the digital audio world and the processing of analog components, this daw has different versions that will serve us depending on what we want to do, offering us an incredible variety of plug-ins and making it easier to work with analog controllers in the process.

Cons

Cubase is... expensive, notwithstanding having different versions to all the pockets, Cubase is a premium daw that not everyone can afford, there are cheaper options on the market that can supply what we are looking for, to the cost of the elements version of Cubase, we could easily get a more advanced version of another daw.

### "A real audio DAW workhorse"

February 10, 2021

5.0

I have used Cubase for years. It's a no messing, straight to it kind of DAW, whether recording/editing audio or creating music/sound design via MIDI. The built in synthesis is good, the generic plugins are great (Reverb and compression in particular)

Pros

Cubase is a solid and reliable sequencer. The audio engine excellent and so responsive I frequently edit clips while I'm actually recording.

Cons

The only niggle I have with Cubase is the price. the Pro version is around £500 and upgrades are also a bit pricey.

Alternatives considered

[Pro Tools](https://www.capterra.com/p/214607/Pro-Tools/)

Reason for choosing Cubase

Cubase offers all the features of ProTools without the massive price tag.

I switched as Cubase was recommended soon discovered it was easier to use.

### "Too many unecessary features"

March 15, 2021

4.0

Recording and producing music with Cubase is in general easy, but the excess of other features, such as the loops available in the Mediabay, can lead the user to enter in a maze of intricate configurators.

Pros

Graphical interface is intuitive, very little need to read the user guide for starting using Cubase.

Cons

There are too many features that I do not need and these pollutes the menus and interface in general.

Alternatives considered

[Pro Tools](https://www.capterra.com/p/214607/Pro-Tools/)

Reason for choosing Cubase

It was easier to use Cubase than other alternatives.

### "Studio production at its finest! "

June 17, 2025

4.0

It's a great product that I would recommend to anyone looking to get into music production. The features and plugins are limitless!

Pros

There are so many features and plugins available, even someone like myself can put together professional sounding tracks

Cons

The program is so massive, it requires a lot of reading to master. I've had the product for years and still barely scraped the surface on what it can really do.

### "Good, but better options out there now"

June 2, 2025

4.0

Cubase is good, I will use it, for my projects created in them years back, but for newer projects, I tend to use Studio One or Logic Pro now.

Pros

Cubase has always had a familiar workflow since I started using it in 1997, so it will always have an easy to use feel for me.

Cons

The newer versions of Cubase have kind of lost their way a bit with competitors, such as Studio One.

### "CUBASE, un DAW complet et professionnel!"

September 12, 2023

5.0

### "First CUBE Love"

February 20, 2025

I started my first music works with CUBASE at the time was the 5 version and was just awesome. After a while I realized I can do better integrating that software with other VST-2 plugins as Ampire (for I started as a guitar player at that time)

Pros

The capacity to do something unique and special as the pitch shifting and loop working better than other DAW

Cons

The main view that is not truly engaging and simple as in other DAW

### "Recording with Cubase"

April 8, 2023

5.0

I found that whatever I didn't understand had been explained in an article and their help videos were just very clear and informative. One of the reasons I chose them was there were so many YouTube videos to help me to understand this program.

Pros

I have used other recording software in the past and it took me a while to figure out what can be done with them. In other words, the learning curve was much longer than it was when I started using Cubase. The program is so well organized. It was only minutes for me to be up and running.

Cons

For the protection of the program's intellectual property, they require a dongle. The first dongle I had only lasted a couple of months. They got me another one. It has worked well since then.

Reason for choosing Cubase

Better quality at a reasonable price.

### "Cubase is the best, period."

August 22, 2022

5.0

I've used the software for the better part of 30 yrs, and it's my go-to sequencer above all others. I just love it.

Pros

There is nearly nothing that can't be done with Cubase if you're a recording musician, engineer, etc. If you can dream it, Cubase can get you there.

Cons

There are so many options and so many ways to get where you need to go within Cubase, that I believe this specific fact turns some away from the software. Thankfully there are lower tier Cubase options than the Pro version I have used since the early 90's.

### "Cubase, the boss of all Daws"

February 12, 2023

5.0

Thanks to Cubase, I can compose my pieces directly live on my Piano thanks to the formidable management of the midi in Cubase.

Pros

Cubase is, in my opinion, the perfect Daw for any musician and sound engineer. the power made available is exceptional, the options of the logic editor, and the mixer window are probably the most complete of all Daw. Being able to add audio effects to raw audio clips without going through the mixer and modifying audio in offline mode is unique among all the Daws I've used.

Cons

However, what poses a problem at my level is its complexity. for a beginner, this is not necessarily the software that I will recommend, but still beginners can get used to it if they have good documentation, which Cubase provides 100%

### "I have been using Cubase for well over 20 years and it always delivers."

July 20, 2022

5.0

I have used Cubase for many many years since the late 90s probably. It is easy to use, sounds great right out of the box, and is set up to inspire creativity.

Pros

Ease of use, quality of sounds, compatibility with any system

Cons

Price, it is well worth the price but I think they would be back on the map as a big player if they cut the price way way back because then you would have way more users.

Reason for choosing Cubase

I own Logic as well and love it. Pro Tools is just not my thing, I would rather buy Cibase.

### "Cubase. You don’t need a phd just a bachelors "

May 24, 2022

5.0

I switched to an easier to use DAW.

Pros

It’s got some good plug ins. It Does what you need to do when you get it working.

Cons

Really hard to understand and setup audio busses and the program really doesn’t remember your choices. This program works well for industry pros who have had years of training. I tried to use for a year or two with little luck. Tech support is not good for the free version. Which is understandable.
