Senior Lecturer Higher Education Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Functional Podcast Editing and Mixing Software" December 10, 2020 5.0 Adobe Audition is an easy and professional audio production application that I will continue to use for my student podcast assignments. Pros As someone who teaches writing and communication at the college-level, I use Adobe Audition as the my main software for student podcast assignments. My university provides students access to Adobe software, and it works well on both Mac and PC platforms. Students have been using Audition each semester to produce their own podcast episodes about their research topics, and many have praised the ease of the software even though they may have had no experience with audio recording or production before. Cons The input and output selections for separate tracks is not as intuitive as they could be. Each audio track has to be assigned a specific input and output when it could easily be defaulted to main input/output on the device running the software. Finally, the application saves metadata files separate from the actual media included in the project, which can make exporting or sharing a project before final mixdown slightly difficult. When you are recording remotely there will always be some background noises, and Audition helps us to remove those cell phone rings, baby cries, and dog barks. Pros I love how Audition allows for advanced audio editing. Aside from mastering, it also gives us the kind of precision needed to remove background sounds that other tools miss. Cons While Audition has a lot of advanced functionality, it means that it can be difficult to onboard new users. This is why only a few people on my team use the software. There is also not a good way to collaborate on a project with others, aside from taking turns editing the file. I wish there was an Audition plugin with Descript that would give similar functionality as the Wipster.io Video Review Panel in Adobe Premiere to sync files and comments between applications. The vast VAST majority of audio editing I've needed to do can be done in other, more intuitive programs. Pros Adobe Audition features a large amount of tools and options to make your audio sound better. If you know what you're doing, you can do some really cool things with this program. Exporting audio clips from Premier into Audition for further editing works very well. Cons Pretty much everything about Audition feels clunky. February 6, 2021 5.0 17 years using this for audio production for radio and podcasts. I have thought it in college and students love it once they get used to it. It is simply a genius piece of software and you can transform audio that is of low quality with a few tweaks here and there. Pros Whether you are looking for a simple audio edit or a complex multitrack session Adobe Audition has it all. I've been using this since it was called Cool Edit Pro in 2004 and it only gets better with age. Once you get part the overwhelming feature rich UX you are going to love this software. Cons It does have quite an extensive amount of features and therefore it can have quite a steep learning curve. Probably not the best software for the none techie who isn't intimidated by loads of buttons and options. Apart from this, I love Audition. On several jobs we've created a video using interviews and other corporate footage. We make sure that our audio quality is just as good, then the video itself. Video without proper audio is not a proper job. Pros With Audition mastering tracks for our clients to integrate in their videos is very easy. Multitrack is a huge feature for producing content for radio or TV commercials and productions. Integration with Adobe Premiere makes it the perfect tool for an editor to complete the job. Cons Audio Hardware Mapping can be difficult at times. It is a heavy user of computer resources. This has become less over the years, but it still takes a powerful computer to get the best from it. Pros It is a very useful software to cut audios or clean them in case they have a certain level of noise that is uncomfortable. I recommend it for audio work and to complement those who are working on audiovisual projects and want to improve the sound aspect. White noise removal works quite good. I tried once five-channel audio and the results were amazing. Even mixing down the result on a stereo output from it felt deeply atmospheric. Cons I didn't find a thing to improve.
