### "PRO TOOLS is the Industry Standard"

December 26, 2024

5.0

Awesome. It's great to have all the necessary options in one place. there's nothing here here that will fall short of the best.

Pros

This is the top of the line. I like that I'm working on the same platform as the pro's. From music to film Pro Tools has become the standard. It's incredibly motivating to be able to use the same tools as the pros.

Cons

It's robust...which means sometimes you can get lost in the features and options. Small jobs sometimes can become time consuming because you can go down a 'rabbit-hole' when you really just need to get the job done.

Alternatives considered

[Cubase](https://www.capterra.com/p/214601/Cubase/)[Logic Pro](https://www.capterra.com/p/214597/Logic-Pro/)

Reason for choosing Pro Tools

I had the budget so I decided to give a Pro Tools a try. If money is no consideration then pro tools is the best option.

### "Great real time pitch correction features"

December 15, 2022

5.0

I think automation and plug-in capabilities could be improved but I am impressed at the real time pitch correction capabilities.

Pros

I have been using Pro Tools for several years now, and I have to say that I am very impressed with the real-time pitch correction features of the software. Elastic Time and Elastic Pitch make it incredibly easy to fix timing and pitch errors in my audio recordings, and I have found that I am able to achieve much better results in a shorter amount of time compared to using other DAWs. I particularly like the way Pro Tools analyses the audio and identifies transients, which allows me to make precise adjustments to the timing of my tracks without affecting the pitch. This has been a huge time-saver for me.

Cons

While I have found Pro Tools to be very powerful and user-friendly digital audio workstation, one of the biggest drawbacks, in my opinion, is the automation and plug-in capabilities. While Pro Tools does offer a wide range of automation options, I have found that the interface can be a bit clunky and difficult to navigate, especially in instances when working with multiple tracks. This can make it time consuming to set up and edit automation. I have often used other DAWs for serious automation processes.

### "AVID Pro Tools Review"

April 25, 2023

5.0

Pros

The audio editing and automation tools are endless. It allows you to customize settings to tailor your needs when working as well. Pro Tools is an industry standard for these reasons.

Cons

The Midi functionality in Pro Tools isn't the greatest and could be improved upon, however Pro Tools's function was never to be a beat making software primarily.

Switched from

### "The (old) industry standard for a reason"

January 21, 2021

5.0

I’ve been using PT since it required proprietary hardware, and I’d say it’s improved a lot since then. Moving from the iLok system was also a good move, but the monthly fee is a hard pill to swallow if you’re not making a living doing audio stuff.

Pros

ProTools earned the reputation of being the best DAW for a reason in the 90s and 2000s, and it’s still one of the best. A good layout, great features and shortcuts, and it lets you do all you need once you put in the time to learn it. If you’re in or working with the music industry, it’s still the standard in many pro studios, but that only matters if you’re moving files back and forth a lot.

Cons

The rise of faster computers and home studios has given rise to other great DAWs that are functionally quite good and comparably feature wise. The biggest downside to protools currently is the price, especially now that they’ve moved to the subscription model, but if you know the layout and shortcuts, it’s hard to make the case to go with something else.

Switched from

[Cubase](https://www.capterra.com/p/214601/Cubase/)

Went from PC to Mac and wanted something that was more widely used/standardized. Even now I’m considering logic or Luna as alternatives to save some money...

### "Choice for an accurate studio working experience."

April 30, 2025

5.0

It's enabled us to provide industry-grade competitive audio for our artists resulting in an edge when catering to real artists looking for professional production.

Pros

Pro Tools allows me to work with the accuracy required to record, mix and master projects. I am a fan of how well it handles large session files while maintaining speed, and the editing tools feel very intuitive for detailed audio work.

Cons

It has a long learning curve for those who are new to professional audio production, and the licensing costs for full versions can become expensive if you’re expanding a studio.

### "Great Music creation software"

December 9, 2024

5.0

I started using Pro tools 6 months ago, and I use it with Sibelius notation software. It took me a while to work out how to get everything working, but now I am proficient at doing what I want to do and it gives really excellent results. You can combine Pro tools with lots of sound libraries to get some really impressive sounds in your music.

Pros

It is a digital studio that can enable you to produce music in a wide range of formats: audio and midi.

Cons

It can sometimes be difficult to work out exactly how to do something.

### "The best there is"

February 20, 2025

5.0

Excellent product. Would recommend to anyone looking to become s recording and or mix engineer.

Pros

Pro tools is definitely the best daw on the market. Once you learn the ins and outs there's not much else worth using. Been using it for over 20 years now and getting better every year.

Cons

Sometimes the plugins will bog down the system causing crashes of the software, but with enough cpu it's usually not an issue.

### "Something for everyone, great for the technical"

May 12, 2025

4.0

My overall experience with Pro Tools has been consistently excellent. In these cases, I'm recording and not actually engineering; but at the board, I'm not really the biggest fan. Powerful software, offputting user interface.

Pros

Pro Tools is the music industry standard for recording. I like that it's available in one form or another for creators at different price points and education levels. I also like that they offer a certification program for their software.

Cons

In my opinion, the interface is too involved, and I don't really care for that. It is, in fact, the reason I prefer to use Logic Pro. I believe that in the process of being creative, I shouldn't have to hyperfocus on navigating the technical aspect.

### "Protools is the industry standard."

November 25, 2024

5.0

It’s the leading industry standard recording software platform for good reason. I enjoy editing, mixing and mastering in protools and top notch access to high quality audio plug ins.

Pros

High Quality professional Waves Audio Plug in capabilities. Easy and Seamless audio editing. Works great with Universal Audio Audio Interfaces.

Cons

What I least like about the new protools is that it is now subscription based. Before you were able to buy a version and keep using it.

### "Pro Tools and Me: 20 years and counting "first impressions""

November 30, 2021

5.0

My professional experience with Pro Tools is excellent. Have been using it as my main DAW for 20 years and counting. Have used it on mac, right now in a iMac M1, and PC´s (built by myself). In my normal working day Pro Tools stay up and running, recording mixing, scoring, etc. for straight hours. Not a crash. Ever. The few times that happened it was new plugin related. If you setup your workstation with the right hardware, no bs, and use it just for working. That is my real world experience.

Pros

All the editing features, for example the implementation of the multi tool, the four modes for the edit view (slip, shuffle, grid/relativegrid, spot), etc. If you know your shortcuts (and if you don´t...YOU SHOULD), editing work is fast as lightning speed. Nowadays working online, collab & travelling for different proyects is pretty common. You're likely to receive PT sessions from everyone. If you are thinking of working in the audio industry you'll find out every facility has at least one Pro Tools rig. There is no Pro facility not using Pro Tools since for ever. There is a reason why, join in and find out!

Cons

Theres a lot of features I don´t like from Pro Tools. First of all MIDI. Come on guys, 2021...look to your sides. I would suggest midi bridge implementation between DAWs like CUBASE or Logic insturment tracks into PT instrument tracks (not gonna see it in my lifetime). That would be a game changer!! The second most tedious feature I absolutley hate is delay compensation. Awful implementation. It took 10 versions of PT to work it out. And if the hardware is not powerfull enough, you´ll be struggling a lot with parallel processing using really heavy cpu plugins. Let´s say in 2021 computing got enough power to make it work. But try automating Objects in real time in a dolby atmos mix with 100+ ch.

Reason for choosing Pro Tools

I currently use all of them. But my main DAW it´s always Pro Tools. Always. The workflow. I´m a fish in the water.

### "Pro Tools: The Pro Industry Standard is Stable and Reliable but is Often Difficult to Use"

January 4, 2022

4.0

Pro Tools felt fully-featured and often takes me back to the early days of digital audio recording. It's fiercely old-school, analog-mixer-influenced layout and workflow felt like a blessing and a curse: the complexity of routing kept me a bit more "honest" and kept my mixes smaller, but it also lead to slowdowns and frustrations when trying to accomplish simple tasks sometimes.

Pros

Pro Tools's layout is easy on the eyes, with quick access to inserts and sends on the tracks in the Edit Window. The Mix Window shows all the faders and panners you need. Pro Tools is rock-solid performance-wise and many tests have proven it to be the most accurate DAW as far as its math engine goes. Its included plugins are among the best in the industry.

Cons

Pro Tools shows is one of the earliest DAWs and it really feels like it often when trying to do simple mixing/organising actions. Things like creating group and FX busses require multiple steps that most modern DAWs accomplish with a simple right-click. Solo'ing is frustrating, with the need to "solo-safe" grouped tracks, or even add a VCA fader to groups, just to be able to solo groups or individual tracks the way one would expect from a mixing console.

### "It has been Pro Tools for a while "

May 31, 2022

5.0

In as much as I have always liked working with Pro Tools, I find it a little bit out dated with time but it is always difficult to abandon a legacy system kind of a tool, and that’s Pro Tools to me.

Pros

Once in a while my team meets for a monthly feature where we record our experiences with music. Quite an impromptu activity. Often not, we do not have the luxury of time for multiple vocal takes. I have always used Pro Tools Elastic audio feature to align our conversations with music. This feature comes in handy in vocal quantization and ensuring no overlaps. If need be, i could as well stretch the vocals and get a perfect production.

Cons

Working with MP3 lately in Pro Tools has been very slow when it comes to importing them into Pro Tools. This has not been the case and could be that Pro Tools is having a problem with my new Macbook Pro M1 chip.

### "GOOD PROGRAM BUT TOO COMPLICATE"

June 22, 2021

5.0

You are so busy with Pro Tools in their mechanic complicate system that you forget and no time to spending in your commercial projects of your music.

Pros

I worked with this during two years, I founded complicate but very good, till the moment Apple made Logic Pro with same functions, and more that Pro Tools doesn't have. Of course Logic is less complicate/

Cons

At beginning it was the price, I heard it becomes more expensive. Logic Pro you pay less, really less, and have an excellent machine to work with, by the way less complicate very comfortable to use. 12 years in there, I'm very Happy with Logic Pro!

### "Protools DAW review"

February 19, 2021

4.0

Great quality product. Professional standards are usually delivered using protools as a DAW, be it for live recording or live diffusing.

Pros

The flexibility with the protools software and hardware is endless and renown for its crystal clear quality, which i appreciate a lot as professional audio producer and sound engineer. The editing capabilities are great and my favorite is the rooting system. Close to analog style mixer leads to more precise mixes i believe.

Cons

The user interface is quite depressing and square. It could move on from that "oldschool" feel.
