### "Pro Tools : la référence des studios pros"

September 24, 2025

5.0

### "Pro Tools If You Ain’t Fools"

Would use and will use now and in the future when needed. Top notch quality, use-ability and functionality.

Pros

Unparalleled music production suite, completely changed how I create, and brought my end-product to new levels I’ve never seen.

Cons

The cost, as it was a little out of my budget but in the end was worth it. Similar price range in other products were for LESS features

### "Still one of the best"

August 30, 2024

4.0

It is still the industry standard software in most studios and offers one of the best audio editing workflows. With Melodyne included it makes it my to-go software for any professional vocals editing work. Also, in terms of composing for film and soundtrack - very good to have it.

Pros

Still great for mixing and mastering The go-to for vocal recording and processing Customer service is great Has many courses and educational materials for music production in general yearly Subscription is available for a decent price 64-bit recording and mixing engine

Cons

The interface is not very approachable and doesn't offer a modern UI Some things are more complicated than in other DAWS You need to spend more time on learning how to use it

### "A good entry level DAW"

September 7, 2024

3.0

I've used this program to record, edit, and make commercial music.

Pros

It has a lot of basic functions that any person using a digital audio workstation would need to be successful with recording and editing music.

Cons

Doesn't have all the features that may be necessary in terms of mastering and mixing music.

### "It used to be great "

August 12, 2024

Pros

What I used to like about Protools was the innovation, it truly was the industry standard.

Cons

Now Protools is almost a relic compared to other DAWs. Opening the program looks like your opening a tool from the 90s.

### "Decade Long Use, Not Changing Any Time Soon"

September 6, 2023

5.0

Overall, I enjoy using Pro Tools and will continue to do so. I know how to work it, and am fast and efficient with it. The audio quality I get from it is great.

Pros

I've been using Pro Tools for over 10 years. Firstly to record, edit and mix music and band. Now I use it primarily to edit, mix and normalize podcasts. Over the years, Pro Tools has stayed effectively the same version to version, with some changes integrated. What I like, however, is that they rarely make large, sweeping changes to the fundamental tools of the program. This has allowed me to get straight back to work after updating the software, without need to re-learn different tools or find our where they moved certain features.

Cons

I personally feel that Pro Tools has always been a bit expensive, and now that they have moved to the subscription based model, the software is not only expensive, but I don't own it. I used my purchased copy of Pro Tool 11 for as long as I could, until it physically wouldn't work any more with the new system i had, lol. The newer versions crash much less, but there has always been a little bit of instability with it. The positive of this, though, is that I've developed a great habit of saving after every keystroke.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Pro Tools

I was taught Pro Tools in school, so it is my default DAW. It is considered the "industry standard", so I felt that paying some extra money to get up and running faster was more worth it than spending less and taking the time learn an entire new software.

### "Great Software, Terrible Business Practices"

February 13, 2024

4.0

I used it for over 15 years and loved it. I sang its praise and recommended it to anyone in my field. However, once Avid went to a subscription model, then plugins I'd used for years stopped working, that was the nail in the coffin for me. I switched to one of their competitors and will never go back.

Pros

Pro Tools, as a mixer, recorder, production application is top notch. It set the bar for every other DAW and none have really matched its high standards. There's a reason so many professional studios use it.

Cons

Where Pro Tools falls flat on its face is in Avid's business practices, as well as in Pro Tools ridiculous system requirements. I purchased Pro Tools, in different iterations, from 2001-2017. After that, Avid no longer offered a perpetual license, and went to a subscription format. I refuse to "rent" software. My latest version of Pro Tools also became very sluggish on my computer. This was a higher end Mac that was perfectly capable of running multiple layers of 4K video in Final Cut. But you're telling me it can no longer run Pro Tools? No thanks.

### "An Essential Program for Mixing and Recording"

February 17, 2022

5.0

It allows my business access to a common, ubiquitous, and satisfying language of mixing and recording. Wherever I compose, produce, or write a song, I can be confident that it can be finalized and mixed with stability and predictability in Pro Tools, where a vast user base of studios and mixers also have the ability to contribute.

Pros

Its prevalence in studios, its approach to mixing, and its careful, thoughtful, and considered approach to updates. The new features that are added may be added slowly and sparsely, but the program’s lack of prevalent bugs is unparalleled.

Cons

My only dislike is tied to its strength in mixing and tracking. It is not a DAW that lends itself effortlessly to the initial production of a song, but once it is time to record the vocal and mix the song, it is fantastic. They obviously prioritize this as it is what it’s user base wants. The catch is that you may find yourself making a beat in one program and then mixing it (or in my case, sending it to a mixer) with Pro Tools.

### "The most powerful DAW for all professionals"

February 14, 2023

5.0

Thanks to Protools, I can record, mix, master my tracks with the guarantee of a fast workflow, and of unquestionable quality, especially with the avid hardware equipment which makes Protools even more efficient. Everything is optimized to guarantee an impeccable workflow.

Pros

The point that I really like in this software is the ability to activate "Heat" mixing improves mixing quality by giving the mixing system an indefinable color and warmth, much like earlier analog consoles. it's just amazing.

Cons

What for me is a problem in protools is that it is very focused on professionals, because of its price and its configuration, which means that it is not for everyone. Making it more accessible would be a big plus for Avid.

### "The Industry Standard for A Good Reason!"

September 27, 2022

5.0

Simply put, my business and career could not function without Pro Tools. It's the one software I'm using all day every day. If you're an audio professional or working as an audio engineer, using and knowing Pro Tools is basically a requirement. If you're new to the profession and reading this review, I'd highly suggest giving it a try and learning at least the basics!

Pros

As a Pro Tools user of more than 15 years, there are a lot of things I love about Pro Tools! It continues to be the go to software for audio recording, editing and mixing in recording studios across the globe. While I won't necessarily say that it's the best DAW for creating music (that is up to your taste and style), I will say that for the processes mentioned above, it continues to be the most thorough and in depth software for audio. While it does have a decently high learning curve, it's precisely this features, short cuts and processes that make it such a thorough program that allows the user to take total control of their work. For this reason it's all the features that I would say is my favorite thing about Pro Tools.

Cons

While there is a well known laundry list of bugs and issues with Pro Tools, to me the pros outweigh the cons. The main problem with Pro Tools does continue to be the often buggy nature of the software, which often crashes unless you have the most updated software and fastest computer available. If you aren't running the best computer system ever, you'll be sure to encounter some of these bugs, and there's a good chance you'll still run into them even if you have the top of the line Mac. Also I'd highly suggest using Pro Tools with a Mac and not a PC, as with a PC these issues may be even more elevated. The other thing I would say I don't like about Pro Tools is their subscription service. While the price has come down recently, I always preferred buying the software outright rather than having to pay monthly.

### "Pro Tools - Powerful, But Aging"

July 27, 2022

5.0

I've been using Pro Tools since 1998. And even though I favour Steinberg Nuendo as an audio post DAW, I do love working with Pro Tools when it's required for jobs. Editing audio is a dream, but the interface and signal flow can be a little obtuse. But it pays to know Pro Tools.

Pros

Pro Tools offers some of the best audio editing features on the planet. The way the cursor works as an edit tool and the playhead is the best in class, and the fast, response editing tools are hard to beat!

Cons

Pro Tools has been extremely slow to adopt newer features into its engine. Full plugin delay compensation was only implemented a few years ago (Nuendo had this in 2001!), and Pro Tools is starting to feel like a dinosaur. The expensive subscription model is becoming indefensible as well.

### "David's Pro Tools Review"

September 16, 2022

5.0

Protools is a great software, very unlikely to rush and has a smooth work flow. It is the best DAW I have ever used in terms of mastering and mixing.

Pros

Protools is an industry standard and as so has been developed over the years, one of the benefits of this is that it is more stable than it has ever been making it very unlikely to crash saving producers time and making work very efficient.

Cons

VST integration is still a difficult process in protools making some of peoples favorite plugins not work in Protools. The interface looks outdated as it looks the same as the old Protools.

### "Pro Tools, the standard for sound mixing"

August 25, 2021

5.0

Pros

Pro Tools, is that daw you need if you want to be on par with the musical elite. Years of experience confirm the quality and value that Pro Tools has to offer to any sound artist, whether musician, audio engineer among many other jobs focused on the development of sound projects. This is more than a daw, as it allows the implementation of physical hardware and analog equipment for the development of our projects, years go by and it seems that this daw will never lose the crown as the king of the industry.

Cons

Pro Tools, is that software too elitist, from the fact of blocking the implementation of third party plugins we can notice that pro tools don't try to be for anyone, the target audience of this daw is one that previously had a great journey in the sound field, although this isn't really bad, Pro Tools wants to be that software that would use your experienced self of the future, and not the current you who doesn't even know how to use a compressor.

### "The Real Standard for Audio Recording and Music Production"

May 26, 2022

5.0

Pro tools is my audio editor because it's reliable, and includes all plugins, and tools required to deliver my productions. It shines in audio quality, and works pretty well with any audio interface in the market. Absolutely a must for any audio editor/engineer today.

Pros

Very accurate for editing. Best sound processing, all the tools you need to deliver a professional audio media are included in the subscription.

Cons

Requires a lot of memory installed on your system, but once it's ok, it will be running pretty well.

Reason for choosing Pro Tools

The integration with complex workflows allows me to interact with video editing stations, share media, and get synced digital tape machines.

### "Pro Tools is Best DAW Available "

August 25, 2021

5.0

My overall experience with Pro Tools has been great since Pro Tools 8LE. I use the latest version at this point and it only gets better and improves work flow with every update. Low Latency recording and playback give you accurate representation of you recordings and mixes. Best Daw I've ever used!

Pros

Pro Tools has a lot of useful feature to help you get the job done. It comes with a good amount of very useful plugins to get you started. I have spent ridiculous amount money on third party plugins and some of the stock plugins like D verb and 3-7 band EQ stand up in the mix better.

Cons

The only thing I don't like about pro tools is the need to route bus sends in order to use the instrument bundles. This could be daunting to new user because even as a B.S Audio Production I get confused myself from time to time seeing that I don't use them much.

### "Pro Tools u otro DAW? No sabría decirlo aún "

March 14, 2023

5.0

Pros

### "Amazing DAW! "

March 13, 2021

5.0

Overall, it's an incredible DAW with unparalleled editing capabilities. It's the industry standard for tracking and mixing so you'll find that most people are familiar with it which makes collaboration easy. For writing and for certain types of production that involve many software instruments, I would work in another DAW but I always prefer Pro Tools for mixing or tracking live instruments or bands.

Pros

Pro Tools is a true professional level DAW that offers an incredible array of features and flexibility in addition to it being an industry standard. The recording and especially the editing capabilities are incredible. Detailed editing and comping is the most accurate of any DAW that I've worked with. The built in free plugins are also great and worthy of use in real production situations.

Cons

It has a decent learning curve compared to other DAW's. It's not technically harder, just a bit more confusing to learn. Once you know key commands and your way around the signal flow, it's just as easy as the others from then on. The midi capabilities are a bit challenging compared to DAW's like Logic Pro as Pro Tools is geared more towards tracking live instruments than writing with software instruments. It's also much more expensive and the new subscription platform makes it even more expensive.

Pro Tools is my #1 program for anything that I need to do as it pertains to audio. There is no 2nd best option.

Pros

Pro Tools is the crux of my recording studio. From recording, to editing, mixing, and mastering, basically all things audio, I need and love to use Pro Tools for it. I believe it has the most user-friendly interface and functionality.

Cons

At times, Pro Tools can be a RAM hog so it's vital to ensure you have enough RAM or you may have to upgrade for it to be at its best.
