It does what it promises gives us visibility into our network and infrastructure with reliable alerting. We've been using it for about 2 years now, and while it has some rough edges on the UI side and the costs add up, it's become an essential tool for our ops team. Pros The real game changer for me has been the intuitive dashboard. I can spot network issues at a glance without drowning in data. What I appreciate most is how easy it was to set up monitoring for our infrastructure without needing a PhD in networking. The alerting system is solid too; we actually get notified when something matters, not constant false alarms. Cons The licensing model can get expensive once you start monitoring more devices. We hit some unexpected costs when scaling up our infrastructure. I am just a fan of the networking monitoring and alerts. Pros The Free version gives you 100 sensors to start with. That is more than enough to test the software out and can give you the full dive of the product. Cons A bit of a learning cursive at first form what I remember, but they do have the auto discovery for a device. That can help you figure out what you want to be monitoring. May 12, 2025 3.0 To be fair, this app was setup by my predecessor and some of the problems may have just been configuration choices he made. But the complexity of it, the number of probes was overwhelming. It does a good job of alerting, but when there is so much, it tends to overwhelm to the point of ignoring it. So trying to go thru and pare it down is not easy. Might be worth scrapping it and starting over. Pros It is a comprehensive solution. Monitoring, alerting, scheduling, it has most everything needed in a monitoring solution. Cons The complexity. So many probes all for the same machine. The fact they still provide a free version for smaller networks is great. Pros It's ease of you and ability to support almost any network device. Lots of customisation to suit most devices. The alerting feature is the standard for network monitoring. Cons It can look a bit dated at times and miss the flashy, impressiveness of Grafana. It also could do with supporting the big cloud providers more like Azure. December 10, 2025 5.0 Highly recommend it if you are looking for something cost efficient and something easy to build and maintain. Pros We been using PRTG for almost a year now. We enjoy that it is real-time monitoring and it alerts us using via SMS and email. We also implement the software in a cluster, so that there is no downtime. It offers the service for free to 100 sensors, which also makes this a great product if you are in a small-medium business company. It is easy to setup and use and within a few minutes you would have a functional alerting system. Cons I don't think I have anything to complain about if they are offering this for free. Creating maps takes some time, if they offer some built-in templates, I believe it would make it even better. But besides that, this is free - I can't complain about it. September 27, 2023 5.0 Saved our bacon numerous times. Was able to monitor just about everything I could throw at it. Very satisfied with the performance and options of the product. Pros The plethora of ways and systems to monitor. Built in support for Windows Active Directory, DNS, SQL Server and more. So many aspects to monitor - SSL Certificates, Running Services, individual SQL tables.With SNMP, you can add anything that supports that protocol. I Added Printer toner levels.Integrates out of the box with Active Directory, for single sign on purposes. Fine grained security options. An API to easily add new systems.The free version is full featured, limiting only the amount of sensors (100) you can run.Built in Integration with other well known systems like Meraki, and Sophos. Cons It's a great product that does what it does every well. Nothing really comes to mind. Perhaps too much customization. For this price we cannot expect the features of some of the higher end monitoring solutions. Pros The basic features work as they should. I have never had any SNMP issues with getting results from my devices. Also I have never had any false positives for these sensors. The architecture makes it easy to deploy. No agent, just a probe which sends data to a core server. Cons If you want to go out-of-the box there is a big chance of false positives. Deploying custom sensors is very labor-intensive work. Pros When we talk about PRTG we immediately think of a very consistent, stable and oriented tool for the analysis and monitoring of all our network resources, being part of NOC Colombia through PRTG I can have a global view of the status of the fiber optic network and the transport layer equipment involved in it, provides detailed metrics that help us to diagnose the different failures reported by our users and incidentally to generate the trubleshooting of the different failures reported on the access network. Referring to the tool I can say that it has a very complete interface with its different functions strategically located and able to allow adaptation to our needs. Cons Based on the criteria of the number of network components (servers, switches, routers, virtual machines) it is necessary to evaluate the type of license which depends on the number of sensors that are required to have absolute vision of all these teams, therefore, the associated costs will rise, although seeing the cost/benefit ratio is justifiable that investment.
