It does what it promises gives us visibility into our network and infrastructure with reliable alerting. We've been using it for about 2 years now, and while it has some rough edges on the UI side and the costs add up, it's become an essential tool for our ops team. Pros The real game changer for me has been the intuitive dashboard. I can spot network issues at a glance without drowning in data. What I appreciate most is how easy it was to set up monitoring for our infrastructure without needing a PhD in networking. The alerting system is solid too; we actually get notified when something matters, not constant false alarms. Cons The licensing model can get expensive once you start monitoring more devices. We hit some unexpected costs when scaling up our infrastructure. I am just a fan of the networking monitoring and alerts. Pros The Free version gives you 100 sensors to start with. That is more than enough to test the software out and can give you the full dive of the product. Cons A bit of a learning cursive at first form what I remember, but they do have the auto discovery for a device. That can help you figure out what you want to be monitoring. May 12, 2025 3.0 To be fair, this app was setup by my predecessor and some of the problems may have just been configuration choices he made. But the complexity of it, the number of probes was overwhelming. It does a good job of alerting, but when there is so much, it tends to overwhelm to the point of ignoring it. So trying to go thru and pare it down is not easy. Might be worth scrapping it and starting over. Pros It is a comprehensive solution. Monitoring, alerting, scheduling, it has most everything needed in a monitoring solution. Cons The complexity. So many probes all for the same machine. December 10, 2025 5.0 Highly recommend it if you are looking for something cost efficient and something easy to build and maintain. Pros We been using PRTG for almost a year now. We enjoy that it is real-time monitoring and it alerts us using via SMS and email. We also implement the software in a cluster, so that there is no downtime. It offers the service for free to 100 sensors, which also makes this a great product if you are in a small-medium business company. It is easy to setup and use and within a few minutes you would have a functional alerting system. Cons I don't think I have anything to complain about if they are offering this for free. Creating maps takes some time, if they offer some built-in templates, I believe it would make it even better. But besides that, this is free - I can't complain about it. Pros Our level 1 support work is to timely detect those technical events that affect the network infrastructure and which are reflected in the reports created by users, some of these events went unnoticed to our sight because in the measurements (ping, traces) made to some of the strategic equipment provided results within the normal range, This demanded a lot of time in the detection of failures negatively affecting the SLA, when the pilot was made with PRTG and after several adjustments to the thresholds we were able to timely detect the variations which were not visible before, allowing us to recognize the beginning of a massive event; PRTG has very useful sensors that provide accurate metrics and with the help of protocols such as SNMP it is possible to communicate with remote equipment which facilitates our task. Cons I have been using the tool for several years and I can say that there is always something to learn from PRTG, the learning curve to get the most out of it is notorious, although we have had staff who have experience using it which is an important support in our work, however, there is ample information where some doubts are clarified in measurements or implementation of remote probes and the configuration of thresholds. Over the years it has helped me track down failing disks, failing server power supplies as well as advance alerting of capacity issues within my infrastructure. This is in addition to ongoing tasks like monitoring OS updates across the Infrastructure. Where I've had to deal with support, even though I might not always get an answer I'd like, I've been happy with the services provided. The PRTG Roadmap is clear about the direction PRTG is being expanded in. My PRTG dashboard (Map) is the first thing I open in the morning. Pros \-Breadth of sensor types available. I can monitor almost everything in my infrastructure, from Azure to 365 to on prem, Server and network Hardware, Windows / linux services and OS data. -Very customisable in how the above is monitored and Alerted upon -Easy Creation of Dashboards and Libraries of particular sensor types, for instant visibility. Pros The tool provides us with certain functionalities adaptable to our network topology in order to have 24/7 monitoring of each of the elements involved; being based on sensors we can configure the thresholds according to our metrics to detect alterations in these and once presented an abnormal event the tool with its great capacity of notifications allows the IT team to locate the root of the failure and make corrections in a timely manner, with this we have mitigated the impact on the SLA. Pros The large number of monitoring operations on the servers and the availability of options to monitor and clarify cloud services in detail It is an integrated control panel and you can control the number of seconds and services of the machine And it divides them for you into categories such as the machines that are hosted on the ESXI and puts them in a separate group and so on. The interface is excellent, clear and fast, unlike some other programs It is characterized by its work on the local server without the need for a separate machine.
