Covers divers needs. Pros It's easy to use without getting too technical when you start of, and lets you ramp up and dig deeper as you go. Covers lots of different scenarios, good visualizations, good performance, good features are getting added as we go. Cons Windows based, and sometimes it's awkward to manage lots of linux machines with it - especially when the monitoring requires scripts to run on the remote machines. Review Source JM Jim M. Notifications are very accurate and very detailed. Once you set it up you don't have to worry about it later. Software updates are done automatically. Cons We are a not for profit company. So, we use the free version which is only limited to 100 sensors. To upgrade to 500 would cost a bit too much for our budget. Pros With PRTG I was able to monitor practically all the hardware of my Network. Configure the required sensors and the alerts that I need in each sensor. Cons What in my experience is confusing is to configure each type of sensor that I want to monitor and what type of alert I want to receive. Each sensor becomes extensive. Pros It can monitor many if not all of your network devices, such as firewall, printers, access points, along with software status running on pretty much all hardware, such as real time statistics, can create html maps to embed onto your intranet pages such as with Sharepoint, it also has a great built in reporting interface along with email notifications. Cons It can take some time to setup sensors the first time, also some of these sensors can be quite complex, requiring the user to call tech support for a viable solution for the expected outcome. Pros Easy intergration with existing systems like servers, switches, routers and firewalls. WAN monitoring is also very helpful in terms of managing QOS for different traffics. Cons In administering and troubleshooting documentation is not clear though and hard to understand. Also would like to point out built-in reports are not enough. Most common hardware and software are covered by the out of the box solution. Pros Great real network monitoring. Good system health features by using multiple sensors. Very easy to configure/ add/ remove nodes and alerts. The free version software is also of high quality. Very easy to discover devices on your network. Cons Not that easy to set up if you are not familiar with it. Increase the number of supported devices on the free version software. For the most part, PRTG has been a useful addition while not an entire replacement for tracking monitoring the footprint of our users. Pros Out of the box, PRTG Network Monitor has been fairly intuitive to use and well-equipped with tracking features that are accessible across many departments. Our IT as well as training departments dive into the data grabbed here to optimize network usage. Cons The customer services leave a bit to be desired. Also, by no fault of their own, but perhaps a point of improvement, our in-house network tracking solutions do a better job at analyze the specific data that I use in training. PRTG really knows what they're doing, and they make a wonderful product. Pros I love the licensing model for PRTG. I can just buy a bulk set of sensors and then I can "spend" those sensors in any way that I like. I also like that you get the fully featured version of the product, and you can scale that out however you need to, without paying any additional fees. Network Monitor has reduced our headache of looking into our networks' behavior which we had to do manually prior to using this. Pros The fact that you can create public available maps with monitoring data, let's you embed this into e.g. confluence pages. Cons A rather steep learning curve in how to setup check that really matter.
