Pros This one is easy to deploy, not as tough as zabbix, but you have to pay a price for that. Monitoring is good using the mibs, you may monitor switches, firewalls, load balancers, storages, servers and even ACI but LEAF and Spine should be added as individual devices. Cons Customer support was taking huge time to respond. Pros It's capable of monitoring many links and different types of network elements from many providers. It works very well with big networks such as IP backhauls, metroethernets and such, providing useful statistics in real time. Adiciotanlly it possesses other features such as email notifications for reporting in case of abnormalities. Cons It can be overwhelming at the moment of setting up the sensors for the first time and as a new user looking for the correct links can be hard if they are not properly identified. I would not recommend it for an environment with more that a few hundred targets Pros It uses the old MRTG engine and rather than configuring snmp for every interface and then creating html reports, PRTG has nice templates and preset reports. The new version even monitors windows and database performance. Cons It does not scale well on larger networks. The application slows down dramatically and the network load increases to be an issue. This allows us to monitor and alert on all of our important network pieces, without having to invest a significant amount of money. Perfect for our smaller environment. Cons Some of the sensors you need to do a lot of tweaking to get to report the right information you want. Not as many out of the box integrations are supported, which is slightly disappointing. I have some SQL sensors giving multichannel results, the graphs are amazing. The notification options are also great, I get email, SMS and Prowl alerts. The only thing I think missing is the ability to silence "noisy" sensors. If a sensor keeps going down and comes back up repeatedly, I can only pause it and not get any results, or acknowledge it and it will alert next time it goes down. I'd like the sensor to continue recording results, just not send me alerts too often, maybe a "don't send alerts for the next X hours" option. Network / Sysadmin Used the software for: ### "Most compact , feature rich and affordable monitoring tool" November 4, 2014 5.0 This is a review of PRTG version 14. As far as network monitoring and analysis, I cannot think of a more intuitive and flexible product on the market today. Where PRTG shines is in its speed and compact design. The latest interface is ideal for complex networks and as useful for simple networks. Initially, I had a negative reaction to the idea of the sensor based license approach. Once I deployed PRTG on the network, the sensor model makes perfect sense. For the amount of sensors that I used and the included features, the cost of PRTG is over 80% lower than other software suites that claim to have similar features. I am not an employee of PRTG, I am just a very satisfied user. If you are a sysadmin or netadmin and have been struggling to find the ideal monitoring tool, I urge you to give PRTG a try. Network engineer Used the software for: ### "Using PRTG for small medium business" October 6, 2015 5.0 I have tried a few other monitoring software packages (Solarwinds, Manageengine and Spiceworks) but find PRTG far superior ' especially with the mobile probes. I am using your program to monitor a small network at home (Free version ' up to 100 sensors). It includes several PC's, mobile devices, printers and other home devices (smart TVs etc) running through a Cisco router. I am able to get very detailed DSL / interface and Netflow/SNMP and syslog stats from my Cisco as well as SNMP traffic stats from PC's and printers. I also have a packet sniffer running on a SPAN port on the Cisco. At present I have approx. 80 sensors running (this is adequate for my needs) and find the detail and look of the software provided is excellent.
