It holds true compatibility through the versions and can easily update to the latest version. It integrates visualisation easily. The software is like a Swiss army knife, if you want the function it is there and powerful yet easy to use. Cons The only downside of TIA Portal is that it would be great if it were easier to convert projects from S7 classic easier, but hey I guess you can't expect it to do everything for me. También es más cómodo al necesitar únicamente un solo programa para realizar todas las tareas necesarias de puesta en marcha y programación. Pros Gran facilidad para la programación, configuración hardware de fácil interpretación, diagnostico de defectos extenso y de gran ayuda. Todo lo necesario para la programación de una instalación integrado en un solo programa (programación PLC, IHM, Variadores, elementos varios de Siemens tales como Rfids). Es válido para los autómatas S1200 y S1500. Cons Está hecho para comprar la maleta de programación de Siemens. Consume demasiados recursos en un PC estándar. It is used for different PLCs like S7-1200, S-400, S7-300, S7-1500 and ET200SP. Also for many HMI - KT200, KTP-600, and TPComfort Panel. Once I found an issue with the warm start option in S7-1200 and was so frustrated. Once the PLC get restart it goes to stop mode automatically. I had to go to the site, hook with my laptop and had to change the PLC from STOP MODE to RUN MODE. Technically it’s the PLC drawback. But if could had some address so that we can make to RUN MODE through HMI. If S7-1200 had a Switch of Run stop mode selection it would have been easier. Overall TIA Portal can be considered as the best PLC SOFTWARE so far. Pros With TIA Portal one can make the PLC programming as well as HMI development, where as all other software got only one option, either PLC programming or HMI development. Also with so good options from Technology object to HSC - High Speed counter in S7-1200. The easy solution for RS 485 communication with CM - communication Module and CB Communication Board it makes the RS485 and RS232 communication configurations so well and easy. The communication between two PLC made so easy with GET -PUT blocks. These are just few option that I have used so far and yet to go. Pros 1\. Insertar variables en HMI solo arrastrándolas a la pantalla. 2. Conjunción de todos los equipos siemens en un solo software. 3. Fácil e intuitivo en la forma de programar y organizar el programa. 4. Copiar y pegar funciones un proyecto a otro. 5. Facilidad para elaborar librerías. 6. Su fácil manejo para agregar archivos GSD de otros fabricantes para usarlos en junto los componentes siemens. 7. Su menú de ayuda es muy explicativo acerca de las funciones que tiene el programa y las funciones de los PLC,Hmi,Driver,etc. Cons 1\. Poca compatibilidad con proyecto de TIA PORTAL 13, hacia adelante. 2. Es imposible extraer el programa de un HMI de cualquier versión. 3. El cruce de variables en algunos casos (bit de unas variables puede ser utilizado por otro sin darse cuenta, lo cual conlleva un problema en la elaboración de un programa). 4. We use them in most of our production machines. They vary from about 64 IO to approximately 2000 IO. Pros Programming of PLC's and HMI-panels are combined in one software package. Tags made in PLC are reusable in HMI. Good simulation function of HMI panel. Of connected to a live PLC, the HMI simulation in the software shows the live status. (and you can interact with the live PLC) Hardware configuration works fine. Hardware is widely available. Cons Older PLC's (and PLC's with older hardware modules) cannot directly be programmed with TIA Portal, so for older machines you still need Step7. It has some handy options like creating project without need to select exact PLC model. In addition it comes with good looking interface which is not so obvious with industrial automation software. Cons Variety of possibilities may confuse new users. It tooks some time and practice before you'll get used to all of that. With great power comes great responsibility.
