We started using Surfer on a very experimental basis to see how it worked. My team and I were initially quite wary but having used it to update a slew of old content and all our product pages, there's no doubt that our use of Surfer has coincided with a sharp rise in our keyword rankings and organic traffic. In summary I would say the tool is fun to use, takes away guess work, saves time and demystifies content creation, optimising the chances of success with search engine marketing.

Pros

Surfer will save you hours by eliminating or massively reducing the amount of time you need to spend researching and planning the structure of an article. By providing a list of keywords and headings to include, you get a good idea of the ground an article should cover in order to rank. The gamified element of updating your article and seeing that score update in real-time based on adding keywords to your writing is fun, but also takes away a lot of the guesswork around content marketing. It's a satisfying feeling to optimise an old piece of content, improve its score - and then see this translate into improved rankings in time.

Cons

It would technically be possible to create articles with a high Surfer score, simply on the strength of including lots of keywords. On the surface this seems to encourage keyword stuffing which is an unsound SEO technique - the app won't give you much help in terms of spreading keywords evenly and organically throughout your writing, so a level of writing finesse and skill is still necessary. For this reason I would describe Surfer as a writing aid for experts - rather than a tool that will help ANYONE rank their content.

Surfer is allowing me to write review articles that have a high possibility for ranking on the first page of my target keyword within minutes of writing my article. The changes that they suggest are practical and easy to understand. I have a process that I go through every day and Surfer is a key element in that process. So my overall experience is VERY positive.

Pros

The integration with Jasper AI which I use to write my articles. I can work right inside of Jasper (so long as I am logged into Surfer) and do a content audit for my article and make the adjustments necessary to the amount of words needed, the amount of headings, paragraphs and images needed to compete with my competitors on the keyword page of Google that I am targeting. Within minutes I can get my content score up to a competitive level and get on the first page of Google. Genius!!

Cons

The tutorials are by people who have English as their second language which is not always helpful. In addition, their training videos are not well organized, lots of information is skipped over and too much is assumed that you know. A more robust training program would be super helpful.

Furthermore, it provides actionable suggestions on how I can improve the quality of my content with easy-to-follow guidelines and tips based on correlation analysis.

Pros

I can't imagine how I would manage without Surfer SERP Analysis (I signed up mid-2019). With just a few minutes of use, you'll be able to pinpoint the most effective density for your target phrase, as well as how it compares to other articles on Google search results. Using it saves me a lot of time when I try to improve the ranking of an existing post or create new content. In addition, I like the SEO Audit report, which analyzes your content and helps you identify areas for improvement. In order to increase your ranking in search engine results, Surfer will help you improve content optimization, avoid keyword stuffing, or other factors that result in poor user experience. Last but not least, as a senior designer, the interface is intuitive and easy to use, and in my opinion, it's better than anything else on the market! Definitely, the platform's UX/UI has been carefully crafted.

Cons

With the lowest plan, there are no NLP query options, and with the next plan, there is a maximum of 50 queries per month. I would prefer it if it was a bit cheaper for small businesses and solopreneurs like me, but it's worth the price for the benefits it offers.

I write better articles faster. When I have outside writers create content I make sure it's Surfer optimized as that saves me a LOT of time in dealing with their content. This tool is really necessary for my business.

Pros

Normal methods for adding keywords to blog posts leave them unreadable and really stick out. Surfer helos me to write better blog posts, articles and reviews by telling me what people want to hear about. Rather than keyword stuffing, I know which topics I need to include. The help with creating an optimized outline makes the rest of the process a dream.

Cons

There are never enough Content Editor credits for the articles I want to work on. I tend to max out my credits each month but the next tier is too much higher. Wish there was an option more in the middle. Overall this means I love the software and want more of it!

I absolutely adore Surfer for SEO and Content. It provides invaluable insights and empowers you to grasp the intricacies of the SEO process, offering key strategies for success.

Cons

I would like to have some of the legacy tools reinstated. The monthly reset of purchased credits is not ideal. Additionally, there is room for improvement in the organization of the content.I would greatly appreciate having a database of Surfer users who are willing to lend a helping hand to small companies like mine. This network of individuals could provide valuable assistance and support when needed. Similar to the Fiverr concept.

I am using Surfer to no only figure out what I need to rank my pages for the keywords I need, but I am using it to show the client what kind of service we will provide them and that alone closes the sale. ;) Show the tool to the client. They will freak and say YES!

Pros

I loved the fact that it showed so much data that I could customize to the project I was working on. It is like a laser-like targeting tool that changes the playing field for finding opportunities to rank your content.

Cons

I do not like not having NLP credits. The NLP credits are not unlimited and you wish they were. ;)

My experience with Surfer has been excellent. I love their software; their tutorials are quick and to the point and have taught me much. Furthermore, the support is quick and easy to work with. I am pretty impressed they don't hit you up with bots and automated replies but actual people who actually help you. Surfer is S-tier, alpha-type software that gets the job done. Don't sleep on this.

Pros

Surfer is a fantastic tool for content discovery through keyword clustering, analysis with the tools it provides (SERP Analyzer), and content creation. I rely on this software daily for my clients and couldn't function without it.

Cons

What I like least about Surfer is they don't let me use their software for free. =P

No hidden pricing and was able to get all my answers from just their landing pages. Other companies should take notes...you shouldn't have to call to find out the cost.

The two features I use the most are the content editor and the page audit feature. Both of these have helped me improve my on-page SEO. The content editor allows me to see how well my page is optimized, and helps me improve it. The page audit feature compares my page against the top ranking pages for the keywords I'm targeting, and tells me exactly what I need to do to match or beat their rankings.

Pros

This is actually my second time using the software. The first time I tried SurferSEO, I liked it but I thought that it was too expensive. I ended up trying out a different SEO software for about a month. However, I quickly realized that the other software didn't provide nearly as much value as SurferSEO. I decided to come back and give it another try. I'm glad I did! SurferSEO has helped me improve my on-page SEO significantly. Not only has it helped me identify areas where my pages need improvement, but it has also given me actionable advice on how to fix those issues. As a result, my pages have seen a significant increase in organic traffic.

Cons

Sometimes, the auditing feature can be a bit overwhelming because it lists so many things that need to be fixed. However, the more I use it, the more I realize that it's actually a great thing. It shows me exactly what needs to be fixed, and provides clear instructions on how to fix it. This is an invaluable tool for anyone serious about improving their on-page SEO.

My favorite part in the SurferSEO is the Content editor. It allows me to check my SEO real-time score and helps me achieve a target of 66+ score by incorporating the required keywords in my blog.

Cons

The payment is $59 for 10 content editors. Initially, they were offering 15 content editors for the same price, but they have now reduced the number of credits to create content editors. That's harsh on small businesses like mine.

Cutting content optimizaing process for more than a half.

Pros

Content Optimizer is the best thing about Surfer. SEO has become very competitive these last few years, and you just can't go without KW density optimized content anymore if you want to be comparative. Most tools that I used before optimize content after it is written. That prolongs the writing/posting time, and it's hard for VA's to learn and do it properly. This tool does it in real-time. The keywords are right there on the right side and are interactive, giving the writer guides on what he should include in the content from the start.

Cons

I use mostly Firefox browser because it has better developer tools than Crome. SEOSurfer has good addons for Google Chrome and Google docs (that are also in chrome) but nothing for Mozilla; that is something I find it a bit frustrating.

My experience with Surfer has been great. I've had good results from several other optimization tools, but Surfer has clearly been the best. I use it mostly to update existing website content that's already ranking in Google, and I consistently get higher rankings and more traffic after using Surfer.

Pros

I've used several other similar tools for optimization, but Surfer is by far the most comprehensive. It doesn't just suggest keywords to include, it also covers things like number of images, headlines, and lines of bold text you should include. The results have been excellent.

Cons

Because Surfer is comprehensive, it takes a while to optimize a page. If I write a blog post, I usually need at least an hour to work on optimization to achieve an optimal score.

Pros

If covers the structure and keywords like nothing else. Thanks to Surfer you can rank high with content only, with barely any backlinks. Also, high Content Score results and prowess with the software allows content writers like myself to charge more and, thus, earn more.

Cons

You can't unpin or hide the guidelines bar in Google Docs or Wordpress, which sometimes drives me crazy.

Optimizing articles for SEO has become a BREEZE! My staff and I really enjoy using Surfer on a daily basis.

Pros

The UI is just AWESOME. I've tried the competitors, but I am so accustomed to the UI and the UX, that I can't leave Surfer. It's so easy to train new writers and VAs that it's impossible for me to replace them. The staff is top-notch and extremely helpful when I require their assistance.

Cons

One of the things that I dislike the most is that they removed chat from their website! I wish they would bring it back.

Pros

Unlike other SEO tools, Surfer is very user-friendly and fits perfectly into my team's working day. The content team especially like the content editor tool, allowing them to write SEO-optimised content with ease. I personally like the SERP analyser, allowing me to track our search rankings and performance compared to our competitors, identifying areas for improvement. Crucially, by using Surfer, we have ranked key money pages on our website to the first page of Google within less than six months.

Cons

The Search Console integration does not seem to be useful for me yet, but this may be due to our own site performance.

We use alternative products too (SEM Rush), but Surfer is a great tool for the whole team to use - more user-friendly and actionable.

I use this app both for a client and also for my own needs, and I like it. I've seen a clear difference in traffic which makes me want to continue with Surfer.

Pros

I use Surfer for SEO only and it's pretty good. I like how you can choose a range of similar articles on the internet and Surfer puts them all together and comes up with the SEO steps you need to take to get your own article to rank. The color coding on the keywords makes it easy to use and you can compare how your articles are performing against a range of other ones so you can easily stay on top.

Cons

Sometimes it will tell you the article needs to be around 4000 words, which is more than 4 times what my average is. You can't use the AI writing feature if you've written less than half of the suggested length. Also, if you want to input one of the keywords as a header, it doesn't capitalize the first letter of each word (which might be a minor inconvenience but could be an easy fix for them).

I am generating web pages and educational blog posts of a technical mechanical engineering nature. I have realized that while I must write engaging content for the reader, I must also allow the reader to find my content by including the appropriate keywords and key phrases for the search engines.

I write web pages and educational blog posts of a technical mechanical engineering nature. I start with Content Planner and then migrate to Content Editor. I began with Jarvis.ai for generating copy (and giving me ideas) and then purchased Surfer for its integration with Jarvis — which is terrific. I love how Surfer shows me the best keywords to be using ranked in a Pareto order. I love the gauge that ranks my progress from 0 to 100. Everything is straightforward to understand. Thanks Surfer.

Cons

'm still not quite in tune with how to develop the appropriate Focus Keyword or Keyphrase to get started with the Content Editor. I still find myself snooping around in a Google Search to find a good one. I'm not upset because I know that my understanding will grow with the use of the product. I use NLPs all the time, and I wish I had a few more of them each month.

With Surfer, we're able to identify and easily communicate how to improve the SEO of web pages and blog posts to writers and clients. It's easy enough to use and integrate while being worth the price.

Pros

First off, Surfer's Chrome extension made it super easy for us to implement into Google Docs! It's keyword tracker is great for writers and clients who need an easy glance at their progress without being overwhelmed by data. However, for those of us on the marketing side, it took a second for us to identify which data was actually useful through the clutter. It's easy to customize based on relevant keywords and top-ranking posts, so when we're writing blogposts, we can remove short ad-based blogs or listicles (like Yelp pages) to improve relevancy.

Cons

First off, there's no description of keyword difficulty, which reduces the clarity around which keywords are most impactful for the score. In addition, keywords aren't logged when they're included in a hyperlink. Sometimes Surfer can steer your content in a direction that is more SEO than reader-friendly - like recommending 32 headers in a 1300 word blog!

SurferSEO has quickly become one of my favorites among the numerous AI-assisted SEO tools I've been using for content production in the last six months. ( 1 ) Comprehensive Outlines with Keywords - I used tools that are specific for keyword research and compared the results with the content planner in SurferSEO. It pretty much showed all the valuable keywords, questions, headings across its various sections. So it saves time, makes it easy, and is great to start even if you didn't do much keyword research. ( 2 ) Contextual Output - When I wanted to write something specific about a topic, "what-why-how-when" Content Editor gave me by far the best results. Other tools were writing generic information about the topic that was not relevant to what I was seeking in a heading. But pretty much every output from SurferSEO was on point. ( 3 ) Ideas and Perspectives - As I keep writing in SurferSEO, I often discover so many new ideas and content on a topic. Many times, I could turn an entire section/heading into a completely new article too.

Cons

( 1 ) Keyword Competition score is not shown ( 2 ) H2 and H2 suggestions, in Brief section, are jumbled up and it needs a bit of time to figure out the order in which they should appear in the final article

Insanely powerful software that gives you the blueprint and the outline to create powerful compelling content that ranks for the keywords and search terms you want... SUPER QUICKLY! For a number of local search terms, we used Surfer and hit top three positions within a week of the optimizations (and just a day or two in a few cases) This is one of the most important SEO tools we use in our business.... This software is an absolute game changer!

Cons

Honestly, there aren't many things not to like... I suppose the user interface could be slightly better... But generally speaking, the software is a slam-dunk!
