Cons Setting up a new phone with the authenticator to login to Outlook and Microsoft 365, can be challenging and it was not intuitive. I have needed to find videos on how to do this. Pros Microsoft Authenticator is a great program to will keep all of your accounts safe and secure. With all your information online, attackers will eventually try to steal your information and data. With Microsoft Authenticator, you won't have to worry about that. It's very easy to set up and gives you many different options to verify your identity. I always make sure to set up Microsoft Authenticator with every program or website that offers it. I like that you can verify your identity by a text message, a phone call, through email, and other devices. This is a must-have if you value your data and privacy. Cons I have been using Microsoft Authenticator for a few years now. Once in a while, I will ask to verify my identity by receiving a text message. When I do this, it occasionally gives me an error and won't allow me to do it. When this happens, the other options do work though. Codes presented on one screen, search bar, slide to delete, password less support including number matching. It works well. It’s free. It’s well maintained by the world leading Microsoft. It’s bug free in my experience and biometric login makes it easy to use. Just look at it and your authenticating! The fact that a lot of it is automated makes it a really nice app. I don't have to find the login code, but rather it takes me there when prompted directly. Cons There were some moments where the code that was given was not accepted. I needed to totally shut the app down and sign in again. This happened 3-4 times and caused delays in workflow. Passwords can be hacked, imprints could be stored but gaining access for an unauthorized person via Microsoft Authenticator is not possible. I totally recommend it to anyone who has a Microsoft account, it will keep your account safe and secure. Pros Before Microsoft authenticator, I relied on just a password, I went to log into my Microsoft account one day and I was hacked, I finally regained access to my account and I immediately downloaded Microsoft authenticator and It has been the best thing ever. It sends notifications straight to my phone if my Microsoft account is attempted to be logged into and if it's not me I just have to hit deny. May 31, 2024 4.0 I use on my Android mobile (but the app is available also on Iphone), and I don't need to have a microsoft account to use the app. The app works well, never hangs. It is important to keep the app updated as older version may have issues Pros I use Microsoft Authenticator on my mobile phone as 2FA for several web services. The interface is clean and the app is easy to use (it may remember another popular authenticator app) and allows you to sign in to e.g. 365 services with additional security (in many cases 2FA is mandatory) but also on third party product (I use Microsoft Authenticator on Sonicwall Products as it is supported as TOTP). To create a new association, just follow the instructions on screen. If you have troubles or need additional information, you will easily find answers searching on internet. I highly recommend this if you and your staff need safe and secure log ins to sensitive information within your company and programs you use. Pros We like most the thumbprint single use action to securely sign on to our secure systems. This is very helpful as we need to keep our security and privacy very high due to the confidential and sensitive infoirmation we deal with on a daily basis. Cons The only problem I can honestly think of is when linking the authenticator from mobile to the computer can be a little tricky. Using the QR code to help link up is nice and all but sometimes it doesn't work at 1st and have to try again and some people are still unfamiliar with QR codes. Without excessive tech knowledge it can be ready to use in minutes; so a great tool for companies who need to have 2FA for further security whose employees are not all tech geeks. Its "remember" feature comes in handy as well, as no matter how easy, it's still a bother to go through 2FA every time you log into a platform, especially when you're in a hurry. Cons It randomly logs you out from time to time, not much of a deal as it's very easy to log back in. But; the real issue is the mobile experience. If you're trying to log into an app on your mobile device, where you also have your Authenticator set up, you have to switch between platforms. And sometimes, the pop-up where you type the code comes right on top of the verification code display screen, which disables you from seeing the code in the first place. So you're basically stuck at that point. Sometimes the code appears a few seconds before the type pop-up, in that case, and if you're quick, no problem with sign-on. Review Source EJ Elli J. Cons The fact you get stuck in a catch 22 loop of needing the app to generate a code for you to get into the app. End up having to talk to IT all the time and get them to reset it. It's ridiculous. I’m using it for work when I’m logging into the corporate network, when logging to customer’s Azure server and I’m also using it for services such as PayPal. It’s quite easy to set up and use on your phone. With just one click, or rather tap, on the approval notification you are logged in. No need for waiting on codes, punching in secret answers, resolving anti-bot puzzles or any of those things. The important thing worth mentioning is that you should ABSOLUTELY turn on cloud backup as soon as you install the app on your phone. This is what happened to me: I’ve enabled two factor authentication for PayPal, but when I changed my phone the PayPal account hasn’t transferred to the new phone’s Authenticator and I didn’t have access to my old phone. Because of that I could not log into PayPal because it is requesting me to approve the login thru the Authenticator. Long story short, turn on cloud back up and you won’t have any problems. Pros Easy to use, it has cloud backup and it really offers a quick way for two step authentication.
