We've had a great 7-year experience with Omni CMS so far, and adoption at our institution has grown significantly in that time.

Pros

Separation of content management and page hosting improves both security and performance.

Cons

The XSLT programming language is not common in the industry, and it is very difficult to hire developers familiar with it.

Our biggest challenge is that we have a small team and a huge website. Omni has made it possible for us to meet that challenge and look good doing it.

Pros

\- Most admin functions are a piece of cake. - Allows our small team to punch above its weight class - Simple UI takes the intimidation factor out for our least tech-friendly users. - Some of the best support I’ve ever experienced. When something breaks, it’s so good to know the Omni team has your back. - Provides the flexibility we need to serve our extremely diverse needs - A features roadmap that will allow us to stay current or ahead of our competitors

Cons

There are a few modules that need some updates (like OU Search)

This CMS is designed specifically for higher education, which gives it a significant advantage over one-size-fits-all products. It includes features unique to our needs, including the ability to manage a digital college catalog and campus alert system.

Some of the features we needed most were not included with the basic CMS - we had to purchase them additionally.

From set up, to training, to customer service and roll-out of new products, the team from Omni are there every step of the way.

Pros

We have 18 different college websites that we manage through OmniCMS and I was on the RFP team that chose the product, I've been a daily user, and now I oversee strategy and operations, and I can say without a doubt that our websites wouldn't be as successful as they are without OmniCMS. From set up, to training, to customer service and roll out of new products, the team from Omni are there every step of the way.

Cons

We're a little different than most systems, so we need some special features that Omni doesn't currently offer. But...the Omni team is working to get us those features, so they're making lemonade out of lemons!

We've been using the product for ten years now and it has been under constant improvement and targets the needs of the higher education industry very well. The support is better than almost all tech-based companies that I've ever had to deal with. There are a number of add-ons and services that enhance the product as well.

Pros

Overall, the ease-of-use from all viewpoints. Omni CMS is very easy to use for our end-users. It allows us the granularity in control to make sure that users can edit the content they need to. We can easily make sure that changes are monitored to maintain consistency of voice across the site. Administration of the site is kept as intuitive as possible as well.

Cons

Templates can be difficult to generate from scratch without some in-depth xml and xslt training.

We have been very satisfied with our experience using Omni CMS. Their customer support is top notch. We love working on new projects with them to create even better web content. We have built our course catalog/bulletin in Omni CMS and created many other large projects with their developers.

Pros

We originally chose Omni CMS for it's ease of use. We felt it was very important to offer a system that would be easy for any user and we would in turn get the highest compliance. To encourage everyone to get on board with a new system, it must be easy to use for the typical user. We also liked how it was geared to higher-ed and always adding useful features.

Cons

We wish there was an out of the box solution for presenting dynamic content whether is be by database, spreadsheet or some other solution. This can be overcome but it takes some development.

Pros

This product is extremely user friendly. I'm responsible for training many of our users in OUCampus and I find that most users adapt fairly quickly once getting into the system. The interface is easy to understand and there are plenty of features to customize pages.

Cons

Sometimes formatting/features don't work quite as anticipated which can seem unsolvable for an average user. It would also be nice to have more flexibility in permission user levels as there's almost an all or nothing approach to a certain extent.

Pros

OU Campus is a straightforward CMS that is easy to use for users with little to no technical background. We have some users who had to use it in a pinch with no training and even they were able to complete key tasks.

Cons

As an administrator, I would like the ability to bulk reassign pages and to better control workflows with multiple users while still enforcing approals. I'd also like a taxonomy that would allow content to be tagged to be used on multiple pages easily.
