Pros It is reliable regarding document protection. Once installed, nothing else is required from the user's side. Cons The most problematic issue was the fact that a client (plugin) was required to be downloaded by the user; however, they have just come out with a new version that does not require such plugin. The customers satisfaction is on a high level with minimal support. Pros Support full range of PDF features and standards. Easy to deploy with free Acrobat Reader and other popular viewers for MacOS and Windows. Robust viewer to launch protected PDF in browser. Simple to integrate via standard API and webtechnology into workflows and databases. Manage PDF security settings, provide screenshot protection and dynamic watermarking. Long time experience in DRM and distribution on global scale. One solution for all kind of devices. Attractive licensing. Cons Thats there is no independent stand alone app for Windows and MacOS. FileOpen can secure PDF and Office files, some of our customers would like to see CAD protection. Response from Vendor March 23, 2021 FileOpen's core design goal is to provide a common DRM layer across multiple applications, so our first priority is to enable usage within Adobe Acrobat/Reader and similar programs (Foxit, Kofax, Bluebeam, Tracker, etc.), and now within all modern browsers. Support for CAD programs falls within the design goal so is on our roadmap, but not yet implemented. We also agree that some use cases would benefit from the ability to extend a session that starts within a browser to a local desktop application, so are planning the development of a FileOpen Viewer for the desktop, similar in function to our apps for iOS and Android, with a small footprint and transparent, one-click, install. Because PDF files encrypted by FileOpen remain well-formed, spec-compliant PDFs with the .pdf extension, the same files can be opened in any of the supported applications, e.g. can be opened in the browser and then copied to the desktop, or opened in different supported applications on different devices.
