When I first began using this product, I needed some customer support on an issue and they were so quick to respond and they let me know that they would be available 24/7 to help with any other questions that I may have. You can't beat customer service like that. Pros I like that I am not held to a contract if it didn't work as I expected. Luckily, it works just as I need it to but that was a big factor in using authorize.net. I am glad I made that investment Cons I think having to pay a monthly gateway fee is a con but not enough of a con to keep me from using this service. Review Source DS David S. I have not "upgraded" to the new user interface and don't plan to if I don't have to. Pros I use the services provided by authorize.net every single day. The service allows me to securely accept credit cards through my online store. I feel the security is top notch and the fees are very resonable and a good value for the money. Customer service is quick and knowledgeable. Cons Although I use authorize.net every day, I am not happy witht eh new user interface. What was possible in one screen is now spread out into mutliple screens. It is pretty but the old User interface was much more useful. Review Source DM Dana M. It does seem to have security figured out which is a nice plus. Pros Authorize helps us securely capture payment from customers on our eCommerce customer facing site that is a partnership with our fulfillment business. It is easier to use than our home grown software for the end user for sure. Cons We need separate accounts for US and Canadian payments. Pros I like that it is backed by Visa, so there is some reliability factor with name recognition. It works consistently for payment processing. January 15, 2026 5.0 This is a nightmare industry to get a chargeback on a coast-to-coast transport job. I rely on this gateway since it is solid secure. It can cope with our day-to-day traffic without stuttering despite the arrangement having a retro feel to the early internet days compared to today’s contenders. Pros The fraud detecting package makes me feel comfortable when handling large credit card payments done by new shippers I have never done business with before. Cons The user interface is so outdated, and it is impossible to navigate through the backend settings with the required number of clicks. With the good rates, and integration by SkyVerge for WooCommerce I can definitely recommend authorize.net Pros API access is great and there are paid plugins that make integrating with WooCommerce very easy. The also have low fees Cons Their merchant UI is very outdated. It’s hard to find things and it’s small and hard to read sometimes. Looks like it was built in the 90s and never updated. I appreciate how user-friendly their merchant interface is. One of my favorite aspects of the site is that there are always clickable tabs available. Pros It's basically a 100% trust symbol, and I know it's going to work every time, while protecting my transactions. " December 3, 2019 2.0 I'm not saying that Authorize.net does not work for everybody. But the digital marketer is in particular I would steer clear because it has the same issues that PayPal exhibits were sometimes a hold your funds for no reason and you have to fight to get them. Youre flagged as high risk I was a customer with Authorize.net for about three months and I was approved for ACH bank transfers by their credit team. I put two of them through and all of a sudden my bank transfer account was shut down and they didn't tell me why other than my account was deemed high-risk by their bank and no matter what I did it would never be reopened ever. To my knowledge the only thing that makes it high-risk is that I charged about $5k in two days - Which I told the underwriter team was my norm before I signed up. They knew how much money I would be processing each month. They also told me that my business model wasn't elibigile for bank transfers. My clients couldn't even ask for a refund. All they could do was dispute the charges that were on hold and if they did that it would hurt my account and my credit. To this day they still have about $4400 of my money that I will not get until the end of January if my account is in good standing. Well I shut down the account and moved over to QuickBooks so hopefully I get paid. Again I'm doing recurring bank transfers with my client so this might not be the case for everybody and this might be great for credit card transactions. Pros It was very easy to set up recurring payments and sync with my webmaster. Cons \- The UI is extremely outdated and looks like it's from the early 2000s. - Your invoices are not customizable and they look tacky - Navigating around the menu is not user-friendly as finding where you're trying to go and can be difficult - Customer support is not the greatest and sometimes I can't help you with your problems or get back to you in a timely matter Alternatives considered [QuickBooks Online](https://www.capterra.com/p/190778/QuickBooks-Online/) Reason for choosing authorize.net I moved to QuickBooks. When we adopted our new CRM system along with the the hosted website managed by the same CRM system, we were not sure how everything would integrate, but our donation links and sponsorship links that take contributors directly to Authorize for processing have never let us down. Pros Authorize integrated flawlessly with our CRM system. It was one of several options for donor management and processing that was compatable with our CRM. We researched each available system and Authorize was both suggested by a fellow non profit as well as seemed to meet our requirements. Cons Transaction charges seem to be the biggest issue that we have. There are industry averages for processing various cards, and Authorize is on par with other systems. It is unfortunate that Authorize does not offer a non-profit processing rate or possibly a flat rate that is well below what would be offered to a for profit organization. Review Source CM Carla M. It was very easy for us to build the bridge between our main software and authorize.net to process all payments through them. The website requires no training and doesn't have a million options of choices to pick from like some do- everything is very self explanatory! Their customer service is great and gets back to you quickly. Cons I don't have many complaints about Authorize.net except the reports. They are very confusing and it is hard to know which report you are supposed to be using and when. They don't provide a great description of each report. Along with that, we've used the virtual terminal for manually keying phone / mail orders. It is easier to use than PayPal Manager. Pros Authorize.Net provides good, helpful API documentation. Its web-based virtual terminal is also easy to use. Cons I would give their support a grade of B. Fortunately, it is rarely needed.
