Cons So far, I have nothing negative to say about venmo except perhaps their fees. They arent ridiculously high but the more money you deal with (send or receive) the bigger of a "tax" there is on those funds. Pros Venmo is cool and functional at the same time, what I like is that it is a kind of financial social network, since I can personalize my account with a profile photo, and so the people who sent or receive money can see who I Once I can see their profile picture, the novelty of Venmo is that I can receive cryptocurrency price alerts on my cell phone, it is interesting that they are aware of the advances in cryptocurrencies. Cons Something that I do not like about Venmo are the fees, I think these times of cryptocurrencies and other processors to send and receive money, where technology facilitates and lowers the costs of sending money, the fees should be lower, it is the only detail that they should improve. I think it is kind of cool how it literally brings people together because people will stand together and huddle around their phones sharing user names and get all excited and cheer when the payment goes through. Pros Venmo is such a convenient and modern way to send money. Rather than having to stop by the ATM to get cash anymore to pay a friend, it is possible to do it right from your fingertips by simply downloading the app and linking it to your bank/debit card. I love Venmo because my friends and I are always paying for each other or buying things from each other, and in group settings there's no more excuse for that one friend who always says they "don't have cash" anymore as an excuse! I feel like Venmo keeps things fair and quick and easy. I love that you can instantly pay someone and that you can receive cash, and use that balance to pay others or transfer it quickly to your banks. I also enjoy the social media aspect and the "timeline" keeps things interesting and makes you feel like you are connected and are able to see what other's have been up to! On the flip side, I appreciate that there is an option to keep your payment private. I also think it's cute we must leave a reason for the payment, because I find people utilize that as a way to leave a sweet note for a friend too! Overall I think Venmo is the modern way to pay, and really decreases the need to stop by the ATM. Super convenient and I always recommend this to my friends and family to keep things simple! Cons Sometimes the requirement to list the reason for the payment is a little bit annoying because once you have typed the amount a user's next instinct is to just hit "send" but then you are stopped and the flow gets interrupted since we have to write why. I usually just leave an emoji or something random or a cute note for the friend if I am in the mood. It is not major, but it does get annoying when you just want to pay someone and move on in the flow. Also I'm not sure why it's anyone's business to know what the payment is for! It's payment processing is more private now and somewhat effective. But Venmo is still a distant second to PayPal, which has mastered payments between friends as well as using PayPal as a payment method for purchases. It's come a long way, but still has quite a long way to go. Pros Venmo has become ubiquitous as a form of payment, particularly between friends and family. I resisted Venmo initially because there was no privacy; you could see payments between people in your contacts, which was unacceptable. However Venmo has fixed that and now allows you to keep your payment activity private. It has also created a new integration with Amex so you can send money to contacts by drawing on your credit card. Cons The integration with Amex, while well intentioned, is clunky and confusing. It does work, but it needs to be significantly fine tuned and more seamless. Amex stopped the process when I was using it and required me to call them because they suspected fraud. Not a good look. The process of identifying a payee is also not well executed. You have to wait until you are all the way through the process before it will validate your payee (so you don't wind up sending money to the wrong person). Review Source TH Tonya H. Payments are fast, easy, and secure. However, from the business owner's perspective, a Venmo account can be very difficult to implement. Pros I love the popularity of Venmo. Many of our clients request Venmo payment by name, as it is quick, easy, and free for them to use. Cons Creating a personal Venmo account was a breeze. However, adding a business profile was fraught with difficulty. Security verification of the new account is mandatory, but riddled with glitches and error messages. The instructions available for business account deployment is sparse, inaccurate, and outdated, and live customer service is not an option. Even after days of emailing tech support, all business payments still post to the personal side of our account and have to be manually transferred to the business account. Speech Therapist E-Learning Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Venmo is a MUST HAVE" January 26, 2021 5.0 I know VENMO is owned by PayPal, but VENMO is so much better in the day to day of collecting and sending money. My kids have it, making is super easy for me to "pay them back" or for them to get paid by a neighbor for babysitting or helping out in some way. Also great for "collecting" from people for a teachers gift. Some cons: the default option is "public." Sort of like face book or Instagram, the list of "who" you have paid and your comment are public. The amount is not. I set mine to "private", but that is NOT the default. If you want to spy on your kids and their record is "public" it's super easy. Also, it must tie to a cell phone and only one VENMO account per cell phone number and per bank account. This can make it harder to get your kids on VENMO if they don't have an active cell number (google voice does not count!, I tried it). Also with your spouse/partner, they cannot be hooked up to the same bank account as you on VENMO. The functional outcome of this often is that just one of you may have VENMO on your device. Lastly, you need to know someone's VENMO ID first. If you pay the wrong person, there's no getting your money back unless they kindly return it. There is a cell phone verification process that helps though or you can "friend" someone first to be sure you have the right contact before sending money. The biggest pro, it's super quick. You can request or send money almost instantly. Definite must-have. Get a friend to show you how to use it. Pros Super easy to transfer funds to anyone. Literally takes less than 30 seconds to request or send money. No more "not collecting" from friends for "their share" of the night out, you just send a "request". Very easy to send a tip or pay a babysitter. Cons You can't tie your VENMO to a savings account. Must have a cell number, google voice doesn't count. Can be hard to search for people. Setting default is "public" meaning others can see who you have sent money to and what you wrote in the comments. You must write something in the comments or put an emoji for each transaction even if you don't want to. September 11, 2021 5.0 Pros I appreciate that Venmo is user friendly, making it easy to find the QR code or QR code scanner to make or request payments either in person or remotely. I also like that I don't get charged for personal payments/transactions and that I can transfer money to/from my bank account and Venmo. Cons I think it's a little odd that that Venmo also has a social media-esque feed that shows you other people's transactions (of friends and public/strangers). Also having humans available to talk to customers goes a long way. Overall though I still use Venmo and as am owner of multiple businesses I use most money transfer apps because if someone wants to pay you, I find it best to have a way of receiving that money. Pros I like it because many people have it and it they do not it is quick and easy to set up. The transfer is fast and as long as you make sure you have the right recipient you should have no problems. I have used it for many years and it is a good app. Cons I don't even know if you can do a transfer online now on a computer and if you can they need to make it much easier. The software itself can be a bit sluggish but overall its easy enough to deal with. Getting ahold of a human can be a challenge and more businesses need to realize how important that is to people. I love that it is available on multiple platforms and accessible at our fingertips. All you need is your device, you do not even need a waller to make the payment. I love the security features of the application and trust the company will promptly respond and attend to any and all security concerns of the customer. Cons Sometimes the application takes time to load on the device or it freezes and kicks out of the application. However that has not happened recently so I believe it was updated and bug was fixed. I have never been so angry or disappointed with a company Pros It's free. That's about where they stop. I have never been asked to provide statements from my linked accounts before and been told my money will be frozen until I did so! Cons Customer service moves at their own pace and everything is considered suspicious. My account was frozen 2 times, I have only used it twice. They have been holding my money 2 weeks now and claim they have a month. I pay my sons therapist through Venmo and it’s very easy and I can pay at my own time. I also receive clients payments thru Venmo and I never have had any issues. Pros I find it very easy to receive notifications when someone sends me a request to pay them as well as when I receive money thru the app. Cons I personally don’t have any complaints. I have heard in the past people don’t like that there is limited abilities to have more than one account for example having a personal account and a business account. I'm not the most tech savvy sometimes. I also love that I feel like my info and data are secure. I am able to complete transactions quickly while on the go, which is a huge deal!
