Pros Very reliable, user friendlyn, mobile payments, and the app is organized. This is the best way and widely used mode of payment nowadays. Cons None. " August 21, 2019 4.0 Overall... Venmo is acceptable for consumer, P2P use cases — but has ways to go in terms of merchant adoption and true B2C solutions especially compared with Asian digital payments services. Pros The main reason why I use Venmo is because everyone else I know uses it, at least in the US and for peer-to-peer transactions—i.e. network effects. I like how they've implemented the "scan code" feature to help solve for the pain point of scrambling to find which variant of someone's name is the person you're trying to pay in real life. The activity feed of friends' payments also ends up being a source of guilty entertainment, and likely was the main reason why Venmo was able to acquire users faster and supercharge network effects compared to other, frankly better-designed competitors. Cons Oof... well Venmo is far behind a lot of payment players in Asia. There's very limited merchant payment functionality/adoption, even though I know Venmo has been starting to make nascent moves in that direction. Lack of NFC or touch payment/transfer functionality is also something that other payment players have that Venmo doesn't. Furthermore, you can only remind people about unfulfilled payments once. I recognize that's probably to avoid annoyance, but implementing something like a time limit would be more effective. I have never had issues with sending or receiving money through Venmo. Also, the reason I got it is because many people use Venmo as a means to get paid when they sell things online. Some people use it exclusively so if you plan to do any Facebook Marketplace or Macari shopping, you should open a Venmo account just in case you run across a seller that only accepts it as payment. Venmo will send you a debit card as well and now they also have a credit card you can apply for. Pros Venmo is incredibly easy to use. It takes just a couple of minutes to sign up for an account and the card is delivered within about 10 days. The online access is easy to navigate and very straightforward. You can also link a bank account to Venmo which allows you to transfer money to the account. Cons When you sign into Venmo you can see all the transactions your friends from Facebook and other social media have done. For example, it might say, "\[SENSITIVE CNTENT\] paid \[SENSITIVE CNTENT\] $15". Under that it has a place where \[SENSITIVE CNTENT\] can note what the payment was for, such as dinner or a haircut. There is a way to turn this feature off if you do not want everyone on your contact friends list being able to see who you are paying, who you are asking for payments and for how much, etc. But it is not super easy to locate how to turn that off. You go to the privacy link in settings. However, I just didn't like that it is the automatic default instead of making it something you decide when you sign up. Reason for choosing Venmo Because I trust Paypal and have had that account for about 13 years. Paypal owns Venmo so I felt an immediate trust for Venmo. Review Source Oscar P. Pros I like how it’s very intuitive and easy to use in terms of payment, services and shopping online or even send a gift to other people can be done with this software, online payment it’s one of the key features for this softwares, indeed you can also pay certain services which makes it even better for the users. Cons Expanding services beyond the ones that are already available. Because not many online payments or services know about this software, and also they not support venmo payment. I was stuck & didn’t know what to get my monies from out of state bank. I wound up utilizing Venmo & along with my husband’s help through his Venmo account also, I received my monies to care for my kids. Venmo is a trusted name thankfully. Pros It was so convenient to use and decipher. I didn’t have to research the process. I easily found contacts. I have never had an issue with this app. During the pandemic, Venmo’s processes helped me arrange getting my paycheck in a timely manner do I could care for my family. Cons I had to wait 24 hours for the monies to transfer into my bank account. I could of paid an expedite fee but needed every penny. Made it work. Review Source Malaka W. I would not recommend for personal use. I plan to stick with PayPal, Zelle and Cash App which all seem to have a better reputation than Venmo. Venmo seems more popular with the younger generation because of its integration with social media. The instant messaging and social media syncing appeals more because they are constantly on social media apps such as Facebook and Twitter. Lastly, Venmo is not bad but it's certainly not my preferred app. Pros Overall, Venmo is fairly easy to navigate and personally more ideal for business related expenses. It's definitely faster and you receive funds instantly. Quite the opposite of PayPal which takes forever. Their customer service team is great at resolving any issues in a timely manner. Venmo customer service can be contacted multiple ways including email and phone but most importantly chat for those who may be at work. I highly recommend to anyone looking to send money for free. Additionally, the app is available for download on the App Store and Google Play. So far it seems secure. They use data encryption to protect its users against unauthorized transactions. Cons Personally, I prefer to use the Cash App rather than Venmo. Seems like Venmo is more for transferring business related expenses. It's very difficult to update your mobile number and even more of a nightmare if you are trying to login from a different device. You have to either email or call customer support. Sometimes I don't always receive notifications of payments but that's not a real huge inconvenience. The only drawback that I see may pose an issue is Venmo now charges a small percentage for instant transfers to your card or bank accounts. Pros Venmo is a great, free way to pay our contractors, collect rent and other payments. We have been using it for years primarily because of its ease of use on the go as well as the fact that it is free. It is easy to use and set up. Cons The payments can take a few days to get to your bank account and there are limits to the daily amount you can send. Whmever is sending/receiving the money also needs to be a Venmo user which can be a problem occasionally. The fact that the deposits come instantly and I can use the Venmo debit card is a game changer! I have no complaints! I'm not sure there are other apps that can keep up... Pros Venmo is user-friendly, which is what my parents need! It never fails, I need help and this is an app I don't have to walk her through the steps while on the phone with her. As one that often pays when out as a group, you know there's always one or two folks that forget to pay. Venmo allows groups to divvy up the bill and Venmo one person to make payment. I use Venmo 2-3 times/week! Cons The only downside is that your transactions are public, so what you send and receive is shared within a long thread of updates. Cons To instantly transfer funds from your Venmo account to your bank account requires a small percentage of your funds to be paid to Venmo. Waiting a few days for the transfer of funds is free. Pros Most clients I work for have Venmo, making it simple for them to pay, fast to download/walk-through for new users, I love the immediate transfer options. I can also generate a "receipt " of sorts for proof of payment. Cons I had some problems with accessing my account at one point. In their defense, I was trying to access my account after not using it for a year and I had a new phone number as well. Usually to recover accounts they use phone numbers to verify you. Reason for choosing Venmo In comparison to cashapp, zelle, friend to friend transfers through Chime, receiving personal checks, cash, or any other forms of payment, Venmo is used by a higher percentage of my clients, it's owned by PayPal, whose security and privacy measures I trust. November 4, 2021 5.0 Good service, not perfect by any means but in this line of business, good might be the best. Not the most spectacular review for Venmo but as honest as I can be. Pros I lik the ease of the software and that it is a household name. This allows people to know exactly what we are talking about and gives more people the ability to pay for our services. Cons I think the fees can be a con but I have dealt with more egregious fees from companies that have no part in charging what they do. Venmo charges about 2% + $.10 per transaction that I believe puts them at the middle of the pack. Their customer service is why I have a bad experience with Venmo and the reason they are not 5/5. I dealt with an issue at work that one still is pending and two, took weeks just to get answered by phone or email. August 25, 2019 5.0 My overall experience with Venmo has been absolutely amazing and I would reccomend it to anyone who may be looking for such a service. It truly does a great job to make a troublesome thing into something seamless. Pros What I really like about Venmo is truly how it tackles an issue that is not just present in people's personal lives but rather everywhere. Venmo has been super useful at work too because there are many times when I must split costs for projects and work-related things with my colleagues and handling cash can be a hassle. Venmo truly makes this a seamless process because even if everyone has different banks that they use, they can all set it up with Venmo so that everyone can get paid. What I also really like is how Venmo processes payments very quickly and I can easily see who paid who for what. Cons There are not many negatives that I can think of in regards to Venmo. However, I did find it a little frustrating at first how transactions were public by default. This meant that the transactions between my colleagues and I were initially public and could be seen by everyone. Pros This app has saved my butt on so many occasions. It makes money transfer from person to person incredibly easy. My car had broken down a couple years ago and I didn’t even have enough money for a cab but with Venmo my mom was able to send me enough money for a tow truck and other things until I got paid and could send it back to her. Huge blessing. Cons The only issue I’ve ever had with Venmo is me actually unknowing setting up an autopay for Netflix and it charged my account but that was my fault not theirs. My only complaint would be the time it takes to add cash to my balance from my bank account. It takes 3-4 days for the transfer to happen and there is not an option to reload from your bank debit card. I did figure out a work around for this issue. I can make a payment to my daughter who is also a Venmo user and that comes out of my bank account immediately. I then have my daughter make a payment back to me for the same amount and then I have it in my cash balance without having to wait several days. Other than that I have found Venmo to be a handy tool and great for making person to person payments. Pros Venmo is a great tool for making instant person to person payments. It is easy to use and if you don't have a cash balance in the app you can set it to make payments from a credit or debit card. You can also set it to automatically reload your balance to cover charges to your associated card. Cons It can be difficult to find the person you want to pay without their user ID or phone number. Company payments. There isn't much it can't do or a way it can't be used in every way of life. Professionally or personally Venmo is the money transfer juggernaut that sinoky makes life easy. Cons The only problem with Venmo is the same with any money app. On the surface, it is very simple, but the more you need it to do, the more difficult the process is. Their customer service is good, yet limited. Making the few times you run into a complex problem truly frustrating. The plus being that it rarely, rarely happens.
