This was one of the only apps who accepted and linked to my prepaid bank card. Most softwares would require you to have a bank account to send and receive money. Venmo is super easy and accessible. They have saved me so many times where I had an emergency and needed to have my mom send me $ ASAP. I still use this app weekly to this day! Pros I use this app to pay my rent and to send money to friends and family. There is a really cool feature that allows me to decide if I need my money right now for a small fee or in 3-5 business days for no fee. I have never came across an issue to where the instant transfer did not go through. I can't tell you how important it is to get your money ASAP when you have an emergency and Venmo always came through for me! It's so easy to manage I was able to teach my mom over the phone how to manage the software. Cons Recently the fee's for this app have gone up. I don't like that they are basing it off how much you are sending/receiving. It should be the same fee overall. Increasing the fee just makes me want to use the free money transfer apps such as Zelle. Also instead of rewarding users for sending money and using the app, they have a limit. For example if I send $ more than 5 times a week they start adding an additional fee. You can have multiple transactions in a day really. Ultimately convenient and easy to maneuver. Pros The most impactful feature is the convenience. It’s easily downloadable on your mobile phone. Easy to upload a credit or debit card. And transfer funds for any transaction. Very smoothly. Cons I did not have enough money in the bank for a certain transaction. The app “covered” me as a favor but I did not ask them to and it put me in the negative with my financial institution anyway as well as the app. It was frustrating and customer service was no help. It is awesome that you can select who gets to view your transactions and that you can request money from individuals. Another pro is they send you monthly and yearly transactions reports. Cons One huge con is if you mess up the account information once you can no longer use that account again. This happened with my checking account and I had to use my savings account until they allowed debit cards to be used for both withdrawal & deposits. I do not love the new processing fee feature to deposit money in right away. The fee is not a lot if the amount is small but if you have larger amounts of money (say for rent or buying a larger item) the fee is 10 % I believe. I loved that they innovated in the space to the point where a giant like Paypal was willing to acquire it. Having said that, I think the product has not had any meaningful value adds outside of what it initially came to market with, that is, peer-to-peer payment. I think they tried getting the social network aspect of it going, but it's somewhat failed to gain any good traction. Pros I love that you're able to send money to anyone in the world by using their phone number as the recipient's address. While I love this feature, it does open up room for errors which I know Venmo has iterated on to give a warning to the user if it's a new contact that you're trying to send money to. Cons I despise the performance of the app. It is extremely slow and takes too long to load new pages. I downloaded the mobile app almost 2 years ago when I first heard about it and now I use it daily. This past summer I ran a local auto detailing business and many of my customers asked me if I took Venmo as a paying option, and sure enough, I did! This made things so helpful as each payment was instant and on the spot. Another great feature of the app is how user-friendly it is and easy to follow. Personally, I would recommend Venmo to anyone, whether it is for business, personal use, or friends. Cons I do prefer Venmo as my money exchange app of choice, but it is not perfect in my opinion. I think that a portion of the "friend" features could be improved to avoid any privacy issues. Some of the capabilities that Venmo allows you to do can allow people to view all your transactions and friends. People and their money can be a careful subject so safety and privacy should be Venmo's concern. It has been the only platform I’ve been using to process transactions for the past couple of years. Funds are usually transferred quickly and having the option to wait a few days to transfer (which is free) and to speed up the process (for a small fee) is very convenient. Pros Venmo is basically a digital wallet. With it I am able to process transactions such as paying my bills, etc. moreover, I use it on a daily basis when I go out with friends and family, and have to split the bill. Being able to keep notes to track your transactions is also one of the best features this platform has. Cons The lack of live support. I just wish that it was available in more countries because I like to travel for my work, and often have to accept payments in other countries as well, and I find myself switching to another app for that time. Cons I wish that it was available for use in more than just the United States because sometimes I travel for my job and need to accept payment in another country too. It's the easiest and most convenient way to send or request money from friends and family. I use it for everything from splitting restaurant and bar tabs with friends to sending rent to my landlord and sending birthday money to my nieces and nephews. There are several other apps available that serve a similar purpose, but none that I recommend more or that my friends and family use more than Venmo. Pros Venmo is the best! I love the capability to send and request money from people, especially after a night out for example. It's a way to make it easier on everyone, including the service industry by not having to split up tabs several different ways. It's super convenient to send money to friends and family, especially since almost everyone I know uses it. I also love that there is a reminder feature for politely letting a person know you've requested money from them in case they forgot about it. The functionality to make transactions private and keep it from public view is also great, I use this feature mostly for bills or business transactions that I don't want or need everyone to see. The speed and convenience of being able to transfer your money next day is maybe my favorite thing about Venmo, it's so easy. Cons The only issue I've had using Venmo so far is sometimes it will disconnect from my bank account for some reason and try to prompt me to re-enter all of my information. If I exit the application though and restart it, it will work just fine. It may just be buggy and something that will be fixed with a future update, and it's only happened to me twice so not enough for me to stop using Venmo by any means. Pros Out with the old, in with the new! Most of my peers have started using venmo. Electronic payments used to frequently use Paypal, but now have changed to Venmo. In my opinion, the app is more use friendly than Paypal and I'm not a big cash app user. I've had my information compromised with Paypal, so I'm cautious but venmo requires more verification. Now that all my friends have Venmo, it is a simple task to split up the bill and receive or send payments instantly. You can also request money from other users on the app, so I also use it to charge my roommate for rent and utilities. There is an even a function on the app that enables you to make simple calculations. If you want to send money to a friend privately, you can choose to do so. The bank cash out process usually takes around 3 days, which isn't bad at all. Since I use it so frequently, I usually have some money in my Venmo account, so it acts as a mini-bank account for me to give and receive small sums of money. Pros This app makes it easy to make payments, reimbursements and other monetary transactions. It's safe, secure and user friendly platform makes this app my go to. It was easily linked with bank accounts, the ability to make the transaction public or private and add "friends" was a great tool. Cons The thing I like least about this software is that sometimes it'll ask the last 4 digits of the persons phone number that you are sending it to. While this is a great feature to assure it's going to the correct person, we don't always know the person's phone number that it's linked to, although it does give an option to bypass this step.
