Parents are able to pay me weekly through the app and I’m able to send them to my account. It’s also great because I can track those payments for my taxes. Pros I’m able to send and receive payments quickly. As well as track them. Cons Sometimes it glitches which can be frustrating. It makes settling up and tracking costs super easy and exact. I look forward to seeing it rolled out on a commercial level to the point where it can be used to buy lunch at a restaurant or a beer at the bar. China is way ahead with digital payments technology through Alipay and even Kenya has wider adoption of digital payments with something called M-PESA. Venmo can lead the way in this space in the world's richest economy. Pros Venmo is an amazing payments solution for the modern age of personal finance. Really look forward to seeing Venmo grow into becoming a commercial payments solution, but for the time being it's utility resides in the person to person transactions. The Venmo app streamlines settling up costs in group situations at brunch for example or even splitting costs with your roommate. Cons Venmo has some pretty serious privacy concerns. Notably and unfortunately, many therapists accept payment via Venmo these days, but neglect to set there privacy settings to private. By default, all transactions (minus specific transaction amounts) are public unless the user changes there settings to private. In this example with therapists, this is a big HIPAA violation. Works great for my new small business and the customers like it as well. Pros It's easy to use self-explanatory, the qr codes are a dream come true, the whole system is basically effortless. And the customers love it too. Just scan enter personal information and done. Cons The lock outs for simple mistakes with no access to you account or funds. This process can sometimes take a few weeks. But at the end of the night, you realize the server forgot to charge you for the bottle of wine you ordered, or you totally forgot about the tip you gave to the barista after you grabbed a quick drink before heading out. The next morning, you realize you forgot to pay your friend back for that burrito you shared. Instead of trying to track down the person to get your money back, you could just use Venmo! Its that easy. Pros Overall Venmo has been great. One thing I like, is you also have a lot of flexibility on which payment source to use. When you use Venmo, you have a choice of payment options: you can use the payer's Venmo balance, a linked credit or debit card, or a bank account. (If you don't have a bank account or credit card, you can use your Venmo balance or PayPal account balance as a backup.) You also have the option of setting up automatic recurring payments, with a fixed amount being withdrawn from your bank account each month. December 6, 2019 5.0 This is such a fantastic app for exchanging money between friends and family. It has helped me stay on top of my finances and has made splitting bills so much easier. It takes all of the math out of splitting a tab, and I no longer have to keep my wallet stuffed with paper money. I would highly recommend Venmo for anyone in college, anyone splitting bills/rent, or anyone with an active social life. Pros This is the best app for exchanging money! I first started using this in college to pay rent and bills to my roommates, and then instantly got hooked. It makes splitting things like bills, dinner & bar tabs, and more between friends and family. I love the "request" aspect since it helps me stay on top of my finances if I owe anyone money and vice-versa. I've never had a problem with this software and feel that it is a safe connection to my bank account. Cons I really don't have anything that I don't like about this software! The ability to trade money so easily and quickly is great, and I no longer have to worry about bringing enough cash with me to dinner to split the bill with friends. It's super convenient and easy to use, and I can't think of any negatives! Most of our clients pay over the phone and not on-site so it provides them a way to send money without being present at our office. I am able to send and receive money to employees for gas reimbursements without writing a check or having cash on hand. Pros I love the ease of use of this product. I am able to send and receive payments for my business with the simple click of a few buttons. I can also transfer funds to my bank and link my bank to make payments when my balance within the app isn't high enough for what I need to send. It is great for tip splitting between employees and has saved many issues with petty cash. Cons My least favorite thing is the lag between the transfer of funds to my bank. You can pay a small fee to get it instantly but I usually just wait for the free transfer. It is always a timely turnaround. November 30, 2021 5.0 I think it's a more widely accepted app that has the popularity over PayPal and Zelle etc. Pros The Clarity and ease of use make allow user to navigate easily. I think it's similar to PayPal, and I have been a heavy PayPal user for years. However, Venmo is more widely accepted among friends than PayPal. So I would say it's largely due to its popularity that makes it easy to set up an account to pay and get paid. Cons It's little for Venmo to differentiate. I would say a payment method such as PayPal Credit could make the app more competitive. Instead of a 6 months 0% APR that PayPal offer, Venmo could roll out something like 12 months 0% APR for any holiday purchases in the month of December. I think Paypal which has been a security company for quite a long time can definitely fix this. Pros The wide network of users use this software for Payments be it Students, working professionals, family members. It is universal and so it is easy to pay someone with this software. The feature that lets you scan and add friends or add someone just to pay them is useful as it eliminates the guesswork of whether I sent it to the right person or not. Being able to instantly transfer the amount to the bank is also helpful in times when you need it urgently. Cons Not a lot of things come to mind when I think about the cons of this software. but I have experienced that if a problem arises with the bank due to any reason then it becomes very difficult to use this app. sometimes it may not allow you to transfer the amount to the bank instantly due to some flagged response from their server. It's especially useful for splitting bills. I also use Venmo for goods and services like with my hairdresser and massage therapist! It's so fast and easy to send money via the app. You don't even need to get your wallet. out. Pros Venmo is extremely user-friendly and easy to use. You can send money easily and quickly via the app without a million steps. Something that I love that I've noticed a lot of people don't seem to realize is that there is no fee if you transfer money via your bank account instead of with a card! I also really like the social aspect of Venmo. You can add friends on Venmo and see who transferred money to who and for what. You can write little notes and add emojis when sending money and then it shows up on your feed. It's a super convenient way to transfer and receive money whether it's for goods and services or splitting a dinner bill with friends. I've also found that almost all of my friends and family and many merchants and vendors use Venmo. It's great how popular it's become recently! Cons For some reason, my bank account randomly gets disconnected. There have been several times where I go to transfer money to someone and I get an error message saying my bank account was disconnected and I need to reconnect. It's frustrating having to go through all the steps to connect my bank account over and over again. Pros Nobody caries cash anymore but this makes being able to exchange goods and services easy, even if there isn't a card present. There's never a worry of not having funds available when needed. Cons I dislike that it's easy to accidently send funds to the wrong person if you're not careful or paying attention. It's best to get the official tag name instead of looking up first and last name. We'll get coffee with friends- one of them takes care of the entire bill and then we all just venmo our share. When I receive Venmo's it's free to move the balance to my debit card within 3-4 days but there's an instant option for a small fee. Game changer! Cons I wish they would separate the Crypto balance to a separate app that's all about Crypto so that Venmo is just for cash balances. Other that that it's super easy and efficient to use.
