It has a very social aspect to it that garners attention of users leaving them with a want to continue to use the platform. It's super convenient and a form of financial expression. Pros Venmo is by far the most convenient way to organized group lunches without having to split bills. One person pays and everyone opens up their app, and within a few clicks they have paid their portion of the meal. This is extremely beneficial when you're not able to expense, yet your still out with large groups at restaurants that cannot perform multi person bill splitting. Cons Currently there isn't any drawbacks from using this service. Be aware though, Venmo is now charging a small percentage for instant transfers to card or bank accounts. Pros Venmo understands the value of keeping things simple. Sending and receiving money does not need to be a complicated process like some other payment solutions do. Within only a few taps on your mobile device, you can be up and running and sending and receiving payments - it only takes a few minutes to get everything set up. Cons Customer service can be slow and lacking in some cases, as it may take some time to get account issues resolved. Patience is the best practice, but unfortunately when it comes to money many users patience wears short. Pros Fast, easy to use, no transaction fees if you're using the consumer facing side of the app and far cheaper than PayPal or Stripe for businesses. Cons Fees are lower due to Venmo payments only being made through the Venmo app using Venmo balance or direct bank transfer. Not a good way to accept credit cards. Our overall experience has been great, I have nothing to complain about, it has always been so easy to use and set up your bank account or add a credit/debit card to. Pros The one thing that I love about this software is that it is incredibly easy to use! We use this a lot when we are not able to make it to the bank, or just want the ease of sending money rather than driving to a bank. We have used this frequently when we do our large company golf tournaments and everyone loves the ease of sending money to our account vs writing checks or bringing money with them. Cons There is not too much to say when it comes to not liking anything, If I had to say one thing it would be there is a fee to transfer money immediately. But it really is only a few cents and not a huge deal for us. Reason for choosing Venmo Not everyone has Zelle and less people we talk to have heard of Zelle. I did request the free Venmo debit card I received it probably in the mail and I am using that in stores for Venmo transactions instead of transferring the money to my bank account. Pros Venmo is very easy to use because it pulls all your contacts from your phone and many people recognize the logo. I have received money from people who live in other states it is quite convenient so much easier than going to send money through Walmart or money gram I can just send money straight from my phone To any phone number in the United States. Cons Transferring money from the Venmo balance to one’s bank account or another debit card was not a good experience for me. It is used for fundraisers, Facebook marketplace sales, and splitting bills between friends. Having Venmo as the service we all rely on makes transferring money very convenient. The Goods/Services option is great for peace of mind when making a transaction with someone you don't know. And Venmo has a confirmation prompt to double check that you are sending money to the right person, by asking for the last 4 digits of the recipients phone number. It's great for making sure that you are sending money to the right person. Cons Venmo's interface feels dated and doesn't make a lot of sense. While it is easy enough to navigate, it feels strange that there is a feed of all your friend's transactions in the front page, instead of options to add people to send money to. You can shop a variety of mainstream retailers, if you're an iPhone user it integrates with Safari and Paypal, and you can easily find friends and family by searching their names, using the contact list in your phone or my favorite scanning their unique QR code. Cons Contingent upon your cell phone service, Venmo can move EXTREMELY slowly. There are times that I've searched for a person, authorized the payment, but had to wait several minutes to wait for the funds to go through. Based on who you're dealing with, it can create an uncomfortable situation. For examples, earlier this year, I bought a case of Vizzy Hard Seltzer and received the rebate through Venmo. I like the idea of receiving a quick rebate via Venmo, as opposed to the archaic and tedious process of mail-in rebates. Pros Venmo can be used for a variety of things- from paying for your rent to getting paid for items that you are selling. As a student, I sell my old books to students in the class below me and they pay me via venmo. Cons I don't know how to make it so that my transactions are hidden from other people. I am a private person and dont really like other people knowing who paid me and who I am paying for goods/services. Sometimes it is difficult to find the people you are looking to pay on venmo. If you type in a name, a list of 8+ names with a different combination of spacing, capitalization and numbers shows up. Pros It is extremely secure and easy to use. I had a security breech with my bank and Venmo was alerted right away and alerted me. It has a simple setup process and even provides you with a debit card if desired. Transfers to friends and from clients is fast and reliable. The app layout is intuitive and aesthetically pleasing. Cons I don't always receive notifications when I get a payment. This can be an inconveince at times. Reason for choosing Venmo Venmo is more widely known and accepted. January 21, 2021 4.0 Venmo's ease of bank account linking, expense splitting and sharing, and top-notch encryption has easily deemed it as a frontrunner for peer-to-peer payment service. Pros Much the same as PayPal, Venmo is easy to use. The user interface is clean and straightforward. Sending and receiving payments is achievable with a simple click of a button. One of my favorite features is the split payment option--it has greatly eliminated my frustration that comes with paying others. It allows smooth, hassle-free transactions between me and my friends. Cons Once a transaction has been made--accidental, fraudulent, or otherwise--you are unable to dispute it. Additionally, it's lacking some features that made its parent company (PayPal) so great--that being the ability to view transaction history at any given time. Another glaring issue it suffers from--much like PayPal--is it's lackluster customer support. However, I'd say the most damning con of all is its lack of buyer and seller support. Pros It is great when we are ordering lunch in the office and we can all just send money to the one person that will be picking up our order. I also use it a lot to send my kids money while they are away at college. I like that the money can be transferred instantly into the other person's account. Cons I don't like how they charge a fee every time. I can see charging a fee if you want to transfer the money instantly, but it would be nice for instance if you waited a few days to transfer the money, then the fee would be waived. Best app of the sort I've ever used. Pros Venmo makes it super easy to split payments between friends. The relatively new eCommerce options are also nice. Can even buy cryptocurrency on the app, albeit with a small percentage fee. The Venmo debit card is also very welcome and is very private. Cons Unless you specifically remember to make your transactions private, everyone you're friends with on the app and even random people you don't even know in your area can see what sorts of payments you're making. I also love that I can accumulate a balance in Venmo and use it to pay for items as opposed to every transaction being wired to my bank account. Pros Venmo is the best and easiest way to wire money. Gone are the days of splitting checks, giving multiple credit cards to pay for dinner, writing checked to babysitters etc. Simple, easy, just Venmo. Cons Im not a huge fan of the "social" wall aspect of Venmo. I dont think that there needs to be an area where people see comments on who I am wiring money to and for what reason. Just seems like an unneeded feature. Cons The search function to find people isn't very effective, as the assigned usernames are all very similar and sometimes entering someone's username or name pulls up a variety of unrelated people. It also has a very poor browser version, so the app is really the only way to use it effectively.
