I was not asking Thinkific to build a migration tool or new product feature. After escalation to Technical Support, Thinkific told me there is no backend tool, admin export, or API option available to extract Text Lesson content and that manual copy/paste is the only method. I even reached out directly to Thinkific’s \[sensitive content hidden\] for help and received no response. That is the part future course creators should understand before committing heavily to the platform. If you author substantial original text directly inside Thinkific, make sure you maintain your own external master copies as you go. Do not assume you will later be able to export your written course content in bulk. Thinkific worked well for us while we were actively using it. But the lack of text-content portability has turned leaving the platform into a major manual recovery project, and if I'd known that before building out so much content and hosting four authors, I would not have chosen Thinkific. Pros Thinkific was easy to use for building and delivering online courses, and it worked well for us for years. The course builder made it simple to combine text, video, audio, PDFs, quizzes, and other materials in one place. It was also easy for multiple authors to contribute directly inside the platform without needing technical skills. Cons I was a longtime Thinkific customer and built approximately 50 courses on the platform with content from four different authors. We have copies of all of our videos, audio files, and PDFs. The problem is the text lessons that were authored directly inside Thinkific using the course-building tools Thinkific provides and encourages creators to use. When it came time to wind down the company and return each author’s intellectual property, I discovered that Thinkific does not provide a bulk export for Text Lesson content. Their recommended solution is to manually open each lesson and copy/paste the content into another document. That might be inconvenient but manageable if you have one or two small courses. At our scale, it is overwhelming. Five of our courses are 30-day challenges, which means more than 150 individual lesson pages to manually open, copy, paste, label, and verify — and that is only five of our approximately 50 courses. There is room for improvement in reporting, automation, and integrations, but overall, Thinkific has been a useful and dependable platform for managing our online learning programs. Overall, it made the course development process manageable without requiring extensive technical knowledge. Pros Thinkific provides a well-structured environment for building an online course. Adding lessons, organizing course content, and arranging material into sections is straightforward. I also found it useful for seeing how the course would look from a learner's perspective while developing it. I love the student facing part of the platform as well. It is very user friendly. Cons I do wish that it natively integrated with more email marketing platforms. I had to join Kit and couldn’t natively use my other platform to automate sending emails. Online help almost always is able to answer any "how to" question that I have. Customer service is responsive. It has a cleaner interface not cluttered with overwhelm. Pros The thing I like most about Thinkific is the overall simplicity of creating your course. The help files' ability to walk me through every one of my problems or mistakes without needing to speak with a person is a real timesaver! The options for designs using the templates are versatile enough to create a beautiful course layout with almost any of the templates. Most of all—it is a good value for the cost. Cons I would like to see a better option on how the multiple courses are listed. A simple drag and drop image. I like how it gives you different options of how to organize the programs depending on your needs. It's nice to have documents for download imbedded in the system. Pros It's great to be able to create your own course on the platform. There is a lot of flexibility to have quizzes, summaries, or even upload documents that can be downlaoded. Cons Tracking the progress can be a little tricky as if you don't click the continue button, it won't register that you did the video. Also, there are a few times the video would lag. However it’s pretty intuitive to use once you have minimal editing skills. Pros One of the things I like is that I don’t have to know anything about coding for me to be able to make a website. Cons If I had to choose one it would be that the free option isn’t available. It gave me more options when creating courses.
