Slack

## What is Slack?

Slack is where work happens for millions of people everyday. Slack transforms how work happens by bringing AI and automation to where people are already collaborating. Go from chatting with your teams to chatting with apps and data. Break down siloed data through Slack's searchable channel architecture, allowing your teams and AI to access your organization's knowledge. Teams work together in context when CRM data, project management, and people all come together to solve problems and make decisions. Teams can talk to each other and their AI agent in conversational language, allowing them to access each other and information seamlessly. Slack AI recaps channels and summarizes threads so that employees can jump into discussion quickly, whether they are new to a project or catching up after being away. Enterprise applications can easily be integrated and shared in channel and direct message, giving a snapshot of context and the opportunity to collaborate on the spot.

Reviewers also highlight private channels and mobile access for keeping teams aligned outside email.

Answer based on 10986 reviews

Pricing

### How much does it cost and what fees or limitations are included?

Slack starts with a free plan, while paid options begin at $8.75/user/month for Pro and $15/user/month for Business+. A free trial is available. Reviewers say the free tier works well for small teams, but its 10,000-message history, 10 integrations, and 1:1 calls can become limiting as teams grow.

Getting Started and Support

### How easy is it to onboard and train a team on Slack?

Slack is quick for most team members to pick up, especially tech-savvy users and people familiar with chat apps, while nontechnical users and admins often need more time for channels, notifications, integrations, and permissions. Training is available through in-person sessions, live online training, documentation, and videos, though some reviewers wanted deeper advanced tutorials.

Getting Started and Support

### What customer support options does Slack offer, and how do users rate the experience?

Slack offers email/help desk, FAQ/forum, a knowledge base, and chat. Users often describe support as responsive, helpful, and effective, especially for troubleshooting and case updates. Some reviewers, however, report slower response times, difficulty reaching a real person, and a learning curve that can make self-service resources more important.

Security

### How does Slack handle data security and access control?

Slack uses private channels, channel privacy settings, permissions, guest accounts, multi-factor or two-factor authentication, encrypted messaging, and secure data storage to control access and protect information. Reviewers also note limits: security features can depend on paid plans, permissions may feel restrictive, admins may export or monitor conversations, and end-to-end encryption is lacking.

My overall experience with Slack has been extremely positive. It has become a central hub for team communication and collaboration, making it much easier to coordinate projects, share knowledge, and stay aligned across different teams. The platform is flexible enough to support a wide variety of workflows and integrates seamlessly with many business tools. While managing notifications and information flow can sometimes be challenging in larger workspaces, the productivity and collaboration benefits far outweigh these limitations.

Pros

What I liked most about Slack is its flexibility and the way it enables real collaboration across teams. Channels, direct messages, integrations, and notifications all work together to keep communication organized without relying heavily on email. It adapts well to different workflows, from small teams to large organizations, and makes it easy to share information, coordinate projects, and collaborate in real time. The extensive integration ecosystem further enhances productivity by connecting Slack with the tools teams already use every day.

Cons

What I liked least about Slack is that information can sometimes become fragmented across multiple channels, threads, and direct messages, making it difficult to keep track of important discussions. Notification management can also be challenging in active workspaces, leading to information overload if not carefully configured. While Slack offers powerful search capabilities, finding older conversations or specific files is not always as intuitive as it could be.

Slack has been useful for communication throughout our school, particularly for various departments that work on different projects. Far from ideal, but we save loads of emails and missed communications by being able to chat, share files and coordinate all on one platform. A little pricey for schools but time is an important consideration.

Pros

Whether it's the instant message to let everyone know about a change in the schedule or the ability to share documents for lesson planning, Slack has made it easy to keep our staff connected. The chat tools are handy, and I love the ability to make group chats for teams such as grade level teams or admin chat groups. Even large PDFs or spreadsheets can be shared, which can be very important when coordinating curriculum resources.

Cons

Sometimes the messages do not load immediately or the attachment may not upload fast enough, especially on hectic mornings. It also costs a little bit more for smaller schools, particularly with all the features. For some less tech-savvy staff, there was a need to take time to get used to the organization of the channels.

My overall experience has been excellent and I recommend it to anyone I work with, especially small businesses

Pros

I have been using SLACK for a number of years now and the Free version has most of the features I need to get a business up and running. I especailly like the Channel feature which allows you to comparmentalise your activities.

Cons

The Huddle feature is a little "hit and miss" and often the video quality is not very good so I rarely use it

Pros

Slack makes team communication fast, organized, and efficient. Channels help keep conversations focused by project, team, or topic, while direct messaging allows quick collaboration. The platform integrates well with many business tools, making it easy to receive updates, share files, and manage workflows in one place. Search functionality is also very useful for finding past conversations and shared documents quickly.

Cons

As message volume increases, important conversations can sometimes get buried under active channels and notifications. Managing notifications effectively requires some setup. Additionally, certain advanced features and message history limitations are restricted to paid plans, which can be a drawback for smaller organizations.

Overall, Slack has been a staple in our tech stack. We have been a customer for 6 years now and will continue to use it to its full capacity. The most useful element is that we can use it with international team members across different time zones with options to keep boundaries and respect work times.

Pros

I've been a user since 2020 and have never found another system that has been as useful as Slack to communicate with the team, partners, and outside vendors who need instructions or communication. Slack is easy to use and intuitive. I'd be lost without it.

Cons

Sometimes there is an error when adding someone to the ecosystem, and it prevents them from being able to join the team on Slack. It gives the new user an error. Other than that, it works just fine.

Worked great for us until we found a better option to use for communicating with certain customers though

Pros

Works good for clubs and extracurricular activities. I think there’s better options out there for businesses to use.

Cons

Have to pay to keep messages longer than 90 day, and there are other options out there that do not charge

Slack has been great in helping our Broadcast Media staff stay connected in and out of the office. The chat and file sharing capabilities are a big time-saver in getting sales pitches and updates to clients. It may not be ideal, but the good outweighs the bad. Any sales team that needed to get on the same page, I would recommend it.

Pros

I use slack to communicate with my teammates during the day without having to continuously email back and forth. The ability to create specific channels for particular clients/projects is great, very easy to find what you're looking for when dealing with campaigns. I like the fact that I can send larger files like say a media proposal or a script etc. without putting the person receiving it at risk of having their inbox clogged.

Cons

Occasionally, I will not get a notification when I need to, and have to manually check. It's also not the best way to store older files, sometimes have to search for older files in channels and it's cumbersome. I have experienced some smaller issues such as the app freezing during calls, but nothing insurmountable. The customer service is useful when there are any issues.

Pros

Easy to learn and understand. Clear purpose. Groups and people can be found quickly. Permits share files, icons, emoticons.

Cons

Ai options are not present or visible. Translation services could be an extra option when you want to write in different languages. Also it would be a great option to have an option to detect code from languages programing and format it according.

Pros

Slack makes it easy for me to communicate with large groups of people in an organized manner, conveniently.

Cons

When a chat is inactive for a certain amount of time, Slack likes to hide it. While this is hypothetically helpful, it creates confusion and I am unable to find certain chats I need.

Pros

While i used Slack only on a very basic level, I found it to be a top notch app with respect to team collaboration and basic chats. The Canvases were a nice feature as it allowed for brainstorming.

Cons

The only critique I have (admittedly I only used slack briefly so this could have been updated by now) is that as i had numerous DMs and messages, older conversations tended to get backlogged and were a bit difficult to pull up
