There is a slight learning curve but it is a good alternative for beginners starting in ecommerce. Cons I wish shipping was a little easier to set up. You cannot access my WooCommerce shop any longer directly on my website, because I've moved over to Podia. However, I've had so many things pinned to Pinterest. Those pins lead back to my Woocommerce shop pages. I still have sales that roll in once a month or so from those old pages! Because Woocommerce was free, I've kept it. It's a great little bonus to see those sales roll in that wouldn't happen if those products were created on a paid platform. Pros Everything about the Woocommerce plugin has been easy to use. I started using Woocommerce to sell various ebooks and guides on my website and it met my needs for that. Cons There's not a ton of customization you can do (at least without hiring a designer & developer or learning the code language yourself) and it's not great if you're a marketer who sees the value in a long-form sales page. You can basically customize, tweak everything about your store while not having to pay for it. I love how it supports almost all the popular payment gateways and how easy it is to set up. Cons It has a high barrier to entry, you need to watch a ton of videos and tutorial to fully understand how to make the most of it. Apart from that, I don't dislike anything else about WooCommerce. I find the platform easy to use and can launch a store within a few days. Pros Woocommerce is free and works within the WordPress ecosystem. You get all power of WordPress but in an online shopping cart application. It's a plugin of WordPress and extends the functionality of a WordPress website to include the ability to sell goods and services online. Cons It has a lot of settings which can be daunting to set up if you're not familiar with ecommerce. However, there's numerous great tutorials on how to do it. Reason for choosing WooCommerce Magento Community edition while free can be complex. OpenCart has been around a while but its not widely used so supporting the software can be cumbersome. You can test your store entirely free with woocommerce and set up a basic platform without having to get the ad ons. Pros I appreciated that without much learning, I was able to learn how to set up my own store within a couple days, without much technical knowledge Cons I do not like that to make woocommerce function in a way that will attract business, it requires a lot of paid ad ons. The ad ons work great, but as I was starting a new business, financially it was tough to afford what I needed. Pros WooCommerce is a great options for anyone looking to have a online store. What i like most is the great analytics that are always at your fingertips. There dashboard has great information that is extremely useful while making business decisions. sorting and keeping track of order statutes is very simple, making order processing quick and easy. i also like how the customer gets notifications to there email automatically. Cons To get the most out of WooCommerce, you really need to buy a lot of the plugins. WE stick to using plugins designed by WooCommerce themselves, so we are 100% guaranteed they will work. we are spending an extra $800 for these add-ons, when i believe they could just come standard. I had to purchase there packing slip and invoice add on to be able to add paper work with there orders. i believe that something like a simple invoice should come standard with the software. But in my opinion and experience, it is not for thousands of items and over 50 categories. The library system is just too cumbersome. But again, this could have changed, it's been a couple of years or more since I used WooCommerce. Pros At first, I liked it because I used it with my Wordpress website, it allowed me to build my online store. It integrated very easily. Cons When you go to the media library to find something, replace something, etc., it is a nightmare. My online store has thousands of products (music downloads) and each one required a cover and a music sample jpg along with an mp3 audio sample. There seemed to be no actual way to organize these in the "library." To be fair, I haven't used it in a couple of years now so that may have changed. I hand-coded the cart and product pages for our website. It has an extensive library of plugins to extend functionality. There's a great user community around WooCommerce since its so widely used. Cons While free, a lot of advanced features require purchasing an additional plugin. It can feel like its designed in a way to garner upgrades here and there (Nickle-ing and dime-ing the power users). Cons Depending on how you have built your online stores, after a woocommerce version upgrade, a lot of things can break. You need to be very careful before upgrading to a new version. It may seem like the best solution but it might not always be the best solution. It also integrates easily with Printful, which is always a plus for me. Pros WooComerce is my favorite WP shop so far. The basic plug in offers almost everything most shops needs to get up and running and it offers enough free upgrades to make your shop feel pretty complete. Cons The biggest con for WooCommerce is that getting anything above the basics can be costly and means you need to be ready to have a fairly hefty overhead if you want to build out anything past the basics as most advanced packages have recurring costs in the hundreds of dollars annually. The other draw back (for any wp, self hosted shop) is that you have to make sure you have your wp secure, maintained and compliant if you are going to be running a shop of any size. Payment Gateways help but since the cart is hosted on your site you should be sure to set yourself up properly, which can again lead to some unexpected costs and headaches you may have been hoping to avoid by hosting your own wp-shop.
