The payroll service has been easy to use, has tax compliance and direct deposit and is reasonably priced. Pros I like it is simple, I can have direct deposit, I can get clear reports and tax compliance. It is also reasonably priced. While designed to be self service, but the support is excellent. Cons If you are off schedule it gets harder to get back on track. Pros Low upfront rate or promo. If you refer or get a referral you can make a few $100s. Cons They will lure you in with a low rate or promo and then ask for additional money to do the basic tax stuff, such as issue W2s and file and pay yearend taxes. There are also several fees and add-ons they try to charge you. Their customer service agents will over-promise and tell you things that are not accurate, so then you have to deal with another agent to fix the issues. I use Gusto for my other business and am thinking about switching. Pros Easy to run payroll. I also like the reminders. I am very busy so these are very helpful. The reporting is also very good. Cons Some of the set up was a bit difficult especially in the tax area for employees. My employees have said that the self service portal was difficult to navigate. I have one employee that keeps getting locked out of the account. Review Source VR Verified Reviewer Agency Principal Insurance Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Excellent product - insanely easy to use - however be cautious when you initiate the initial set-up" March 18, 2020 5.0 All-in-all I strongly recommend utilizing Sure Payroll, but until they fix their onboarding integrity issues, I would recommend only starting at the end of a quarter or at year end - but overall I am super happy I made the switch even with the implementation mistakes. Their product and customer service is exceptional. Pros This software is inherently easy to use and understand. The monthly fee's are very low. The customer service is exceptional. Once you get it set-up properly it works seamlessly and flawlessly. Cons Here is the caveat - if it isn't set up correctly by the person (your sales person) at initiation you will have a huge headache accessing numbers from your prior system and adding them to the new Sure Payroll software - thereby creating unnecessary headaches and hassle for you. My sales person dropped the ball twice on taking my mid-year numbers from my legacy software and inputting it at initiation into Sure Payroll. At the end of the day, Sure Payroll stepped up and fixed their mistake, but it caused me stress straightening it out with them. To alleviate this in the future, all they need to do is form an Onboarding Team that can be a check and balance to ensure the sales team loads everything correctly - so the clients life isn't disrupted when their sales team drops the ball. Until then, only transfer in at the precise end of a quarter or at year end. We have had occasional issues with its functionality, and as previously mentioned, customer service is very lacking. Pros It functions in a basic way. It will do what you want it to do, but do not expect much more. Cons It does not function much beyond the basics. Customer service is terrible, as well. Office Manager Health, Wellness and Fitness Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Best payroll service at an affordable price" March 13, 2020 5.0 We have a very small dental office (5 employees) and I run the whole business aspect, so I needed a simple, easy to use solution for payroll. We had used ADP and Paychex for years and it worked. But when I moved to Surepayroll just to save money I didn't realize how easy payroll really could be. I love their online interface. Doing payroll takes me no time at all. The W2 reporting has been excellent as well. Pros It is very user friendly. I seldom if ever need any technical assistance, but when I have it was easy and the person helping me was extremely knowledgeable. Cons My employees have complained that accessing their account online has been difficult. We find that it doesn't work well on a smartphone and it must be accessed via a desktop or laptop computer. This needs to be addressed because many of my employees no longer have a computer at home. They rely soley on their phone or tablet for their computer needs. Switched from [Paychex](https://www.capterra.com/p/119841/Paychex-Flex/) Sure Payroll rep called me asking how much I was spending monthly on payroll. He said he could save me money, so I took the call and ended up switching. I really thought I would hate it because I had a really awesome payroll rep with Paychex, but found that since the system is so easy I don't need any additional assistance with Sure Payroll. When we set her up and ran payroll once a month it was a breeze! I run a small CPA firm and often recommend payroll. This service I can provide using SURE payroll platform without breaking the client's bank. Pros I like the ease of use and set up. The pricing is important to a small business and I like the low monthly cost. I like that you can get charged monthly rather than by each payroll run. Cons The only con is sometimes the website is hard to navigate if you have a question or problem to resolve. However, if you call the customer service with a help code they usually answer all questions. It enables us to focus on the work we do, not the administrative task of doing payroll. We do not have an HR dedicated person so being efficient is #1 priority. Pros This software has enabled us to free of so much time. We used to do payroll manually and it would take 4-6 hrs. Now, we get it done in a matter of minutes. That alone makes it worth the money! Cons Overall, I don't have many cons. There was a bit of a roughness in the beginning but it has all been smooth sailing since. Over the last 2 years their service has gone in the toilet. Literally just about EVERY time I have contacted them for the last 2 years I have had to sit on hold for over an hour. I am typing this review while I sit on hold (for an hour and a half according to what I was just told will be my addl hold time) because I was supposed to have access to my reports in my account that I closed through april 1 of this year. My accountant can not access, I can not access (I would think this is illegal???) and now I wait. THANK GOD I have left this group, for the extra money I am paying ADP I will SAVE so much on time lost. Pros It was great until 2020. Software was fine, it is the service that is horrible. Their customer support is good. I've never had any issues with their customer service. Pros If you want a basic payroll system then SP will do the job. The software is fairly easy to use. I've been using SP for 18 years and for the most part, it works well. I love having access to any reports I need almost instantly. Cons My biggest gripe with SP is it hasn't kept up with the times. It's the same software that I've been using for the last 18 years which means it doesn't have many bells and whistles. It doesn't integrate any time records...I have to use a separate service to keep track of time. It doesn't work well on a smartphone or tablet. You can't give more than one person access to the system (no bookkeeper and CPA...just one) You have to verify through text every time you try and log in. Any time you change employee info you have to reset your payroll info and start all over again. You can't have too many line items on the paystub. May 24, 2023 4.0 My experience, in the beginning, was terrible. Our reps would not answer my emails or phone calls, and I just couldn't get any help or answers. After having a conversation with someone in charge, all of that changed. We were assigned new reps and they were just amazing. It's all about connecting with the right people in a company and cultivating that relationship with them. Pros The set up process is easier than some because there is a dedicated person who helps you set up a company in SurePayroll. I like that it's easy to review before running payroll in order to spot any errors. Cons What I like least is the ongoing technical issues we've experienced as an accounting firm. At least 50% of our clients were unable to sign in to their own account, so we had to go in for them anytime a change or report was needed. Pros Nothing recently, 9 years ago they were great, now it is a horrible service. Cons Everything, but mostly the lack of the ability to talk to a human; not, a BOT. No one cares. Good platform and so easy to use but what happened recently with them not answering the phone can't happen again or I would go to another payroll company. Pros The product is user friendly and handles all your payroll needs. Cons The customer service. I got locked out of my account and tried reaching someone for 2 days. I stayed on hold one day for 54 minutes and 45 minutes the same day and the next day i stayed on hold for 1 hour and 45 minutes. No one answered. Bottom line, the gentleman who was helping me (he's no longer with your company) is the only one who called me back in a timely manner, explained the process to me at a level I can understand (I'm not in your industry and the lingo is different), was very clear about pricing & billing, was very clear about how the different departments interact and made the sign up process very easy to switch. I almost never have to wait on hold to talk to someone. I would highly recommend to other users. Pros I recently needed to update our banking information just before payroll was due. I was unaware that we needed a bank letter, however, once the letter was submitted the new bank information was uploaded and approved within an hour - and we still made the deadline for payroll cutoff. I like the reporting function as well as the categories of active, inactive and terminated employees. Cons In the instance of printing multiple weeks paystub for 1 employee, you have to go back to the reports for each week ending, choose the employee, choose the weekending, generate paystub. I didn't believe all the hoops I would have to jump through. Cons 1 - I travel a LOT. So I want to do payroll on the plane. HA. They need to send a text verification ... try that while at altitude. 2 - Auto generated reminders can NOT be turned off. HIGHLY annoying to get them 3x per week. 3 - Adding employees? Can't do a partial add ... has to be complete. Let's say you are missing the direct deposit info on a new employee ... to get past the screen? Have to check "manual check." Then? You can still enter all the payroll. BUT ... when you then get the DD info? It wipes out the payroll info for the period - not just the employee in question but ALL employees. ROYAL PITA to use. Processes the quarterly taxes quickly and so far correctly. Great and competitive pricing. Cons Operates on percentages so if a employee works in more than one department, you have to use a percent and the payroll taxes are not the exact amount for the general ledger. Customer service is sometimes slow to respond. Does not respond on new state changes very quick. I had to ask 3 times and I had to get the new information changes for them. I have to enter the department worked in each week. The software does not remember from previous week. Review Source JO Jacob O. President Commercial Real Estate Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Absolutely, Positively, Miserable Experience with ZERO Customer Support" March 7, 2023 1.0 Absolutely, positively, miserable. I wouldn't use this company if they were the last company on the planet that offered payroll services. Pros Nothing. They provide nothing beyond what other services provide. Cons We signed up and used the service for a few months, then needed to make a switch to another service for technical reasons. It took us 29 emails and 14 phone calls to cancel the service. They couldn't care less about customers that desire to cancel. On the other hand, if you're thinking of singing up you will receive a phone call and/or email within minutes. But....if you want to cancel, be prepared. Canceling is about as difficult as disarming a nuclear bomb. They do EVERYTHING within their power to prevent you from canceling, including disabling the ability to cancel from within your account, refusing to return your calls and emails, hanging up on you, transferring you to a deadline, and requiring you to jump through countless hoops. I estimate their onboarding process is 100 times easier than their offboarding process, which they couldn't give two shits about.
