Pros Attractive UI and although prompts are often not that clear since they are poorly written, navigation is generally okay. Cons Customer service is the worst in the industry. It should not take three weeks for a payroll company to respond to an urgent request about a state government imposing late fees & penalties due to that payroll company missing a filing or filing improperly. SurePayroll handles government interactions very poorly, and communicates with its clients about these interactions even more poorly. If all I needed was to run payroll I would still be there. Pros We used Surepayroll for many years and only left recently in an effort to centralize our HR processes. I actually miss their extremely competent customer service people. If you are looking for payroll services, look no further. Cons One of the things that was annoying was not being able to run an off cycle payroll without spending a fortune. We have multiple locations and cutting a check for an advance or missed payroll is a huge hassle and pain. I would prefer a monthly fee and to be able to use the platform as needed. When we had tax issues, customer service went to bat for us and resolved even the small issues with their back up documentation, proven payments etc. That took a lot off of my desk and THAT is wonderful! Pros Its a basic, easy to use software for small office such as ours where everyone does everything. Customer Support has been awesome...even for the small questions. Cons To be honest, nothing comes to mind. I would say all aspects of the software that we use are fine. Reason for choosing SurePayroll Again, the up front guidance and ability to answer all of my questions prior to making the decision. I have spent two weeks straight fighting with software with little guidance how to get all appropriate EINs and set up numerous taxes. I have had daily calls from the company when I haven't wanted them. I have made daily calls to them trying to resolve issues and am still stuck. I have waited for hours in the online chat queue. My employee has called them as well and was treated rudely. Cons Due to an error in setting up my nanny's bank account, my first two payroll checks didn't process. There are huge fees for this and my nanny still hasn't gotten paid. The lag in payment is 4 days and it took 6 days for SurePayRoll to notify us. After 14 days, I have yet to successfully process payroll. I am told daily about new fees I might incur due to not having correct tax numbers, employee worker's comp, etc. If I knew withholding taxes for a nanny would be this much of a headache, I might have risked COVID to use a daycare instead. Do yourself a favor and if this is your first experience setting up payroll for a single employee, go elsewhere! Already cost me $250 for one month, and my employee is very unhappily not even paid yet! Once we grew larger, we required a product that was more robust and went with a different vendor. Pros The layout was pretty intuitive and I found navigation easy. For a small business, this is a very workable and flexible solution for self-management of one's payroll. Cons There were a few occasions where reports were not made properly to the tax entities and we received notices from those entities. This necessitated calls and emails to customer service to have it resolved. Reason for choosing SurePayroll We banked with Umpqua and were recommended this product for our needs at that time. Pros I like how easy it was for us to switch from our current payroll provider to SurePayroll. A few reports pulled, answer a few questions, and everything was imported for us. I like how I can easily pull reports and see graphs in Surepayroll Cons The time for setup was pretty slow. The support team is hit and miss - sometimes you will get someone quickly other times you have to wait for awhile. Sometime when you call in you get someone you can easily understand that is very knowledgeable and can help you right away, other times you get someone you can't understand, that doesn't understand you and leaves you frustrated and still having issues. Don’t know why we waited so long for this! Pros After contacting many different companies we chose SurePayroll and we are so glad we did. They send out emails to remind you to enter payroll every week. Payroll is on default and so easy to enter or make changes. They even have an app to do payroll, however we have never used it so I can’t comment on that part. Cons They have a glitch in the system that has to do with separating direct deposits for one person into two checking accounts. It shows up on one of our employees that we need to write a check for .01 cents. I have spoken to them about it but they have never been able to fix the problem. It is easy to handle paying my employees and making sure taxes are covered too. Pros Setting up SurePayroll was easy (a rep guided me through it) and now it takes care of everything for me. I go and manually input my hourly employees time in every two weeks, but otherwise the entire process is pretty automated. Cons No cons - I haven't had any issues with SurePayroll! Pros I've been on hold for 3 hrs, I guess that's better than being on hold for 4 hours (?). Cons I write this review as my time on hold with customer support approaches 3 hrs for a very simple question. I know their support closes in 20 minutes, so I probably won't speak to anyone today after waiting nearly 3.5 hours. Oh, and their 'callback' feature doesn't work. I tried it twice yesterday, and both times they called me back and connected me immediately to someone's voicemail. No surprise that neither of them called me back after I left a message. President Construction Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Customer service is terrible" January 17, 2020 1.0 Evidently, I encountered my problems during their "busy" season. When I asked when that was, I was told October, November, December, January. I am a small business. Exactly who their platform is targeting. I will admit, I am new at payroll, and I messed up. I own that. My problem is that it is assumed that you know how to set everything up. Going forward, when I set up my payroll service with someone else, I will know what to avoid. When I called to get help, my hold times were terrible. I called multiple times trying to get stuff figured out, and it was the same every time. I literally can't afford to sit on hold for someone to tell me that I am going to have wait for up to 24 hours to be called back to fix my problem. I am an outside contractor. My office is at best my pickup truck. Usually the job stops or extremely slows down when I am not there. I can't do payroll service stuff while I am on a jobsite. So I waited in my home office as long as I could, and then I got my wife to wait for me. They never called me back. I ended up calling back a few days later, and was told that I needed to fill out a different document before we could go forward. No body ever attempted to reach me. I am still waiting to see how much they are going to bill me for the corrections. Judging by what they have told me, their ridiculous fee schedule is about to hit me next. I would have been better off paying another service a little more to be taken better care of. Pros I think once it is setup correctly, it probably functions well. It was really inexpensive for what it does. I have one employee plus me, and it seemed like an affordable option for payroll services. Cons Terrible customer service. Really tough to get in touch with customer care. I sat on hold forever every time I called trying to fix my mistake when I first setup my information. Reason for choosing SurePayroll Sales guy made it sound so simple and I felt like they truly cared about taking care of their customers. Support hold times are 90 minutes plus and I have had to talk to about 7 different people to try and get things done. We had a complete mess with transitioning of people from one company to another and they took months to sort it out. My overall experience has been very bad and the bounce from person to person within their team AND THEIR LACK OF INTERNAL COMMUNICATION is alarming. I would switch but I cannot chance them screwing up again and creating tax issues for my employees. Absolutely TERRIBLE experience every time I try and deal with them. Pros Easy to run once it is set up, it is quick to process a payroll. Cons The transition from our previous company to a new one was a disaster and SurePayroll was the one that assisted with it. Everything is done the right way with ease and cheaper than paying my accountant for payroll. Using this service I have my time to concentrate on my business. To do payroll takes less than 2 minutes every week. Pros super easy!!! I go online every week and with a click of a button my payroll is done. Payroll check is sent to my personal account early every Friday morning. At the end of the year any tax doc such as a w-2 can ve easily found and printed out for my accountant. Pros We were able to implement the Sure payroll system into our existing bookkeeping with very little effort. A little confusing at first. Mostly because our old system was well entrenched in our thought processes. Follow up and assistance has been wonderful. Cons Start up was a little confusing at first. Good people are there to guide us through. Reason for choosing SurePayroll We only wanted the payroll to be taken care of, not an entire new accounting system.
