### "Long-time Adobe User"

January 17, 2019

5.0

My overall experience with Adobe Illustrator, and other Adobe products, has generally been good. However, since they moved to a subscription model, I have run into several glitches that required re-authorizing the software on my computer, and in at least once instance I was unable to connect to Adobe's server, couldn't authorize my software, and lost a day of work time when I was on a deadline.

Pros

Having worked in graphic design for 25 years, I have used many iterations of Adobe Illustrator, and currently use Illustrator CC on a daily basis. I also used to teach an Illustrator course at a local community college. What I like most is that the core functions have remained largely the same over time, and the software is mature and stable. It's actually the only program I've ever used for creating vector graphics, so I don't have anything else to compare it to, but I find Illustrator to be intuitive, and the learning curve for competence is average for a design program. I typically use Illustrator for logos and infographics, and it is ideally suited to those tasks.

Cons

My main complaint with Adobe Illustrator is that certain tools which share similar functions across programs in the Adobe line-up - most notably, Photoshop and InDesign - don't operate consistently. For instance, the resize tool in Illustrator works differently than it does in Photoshop, and it works differently in Indesign, compared to the other two. My other main complaint is that Adobe has changed the icons for several of the tools in the tool bar, and changed the arrangement of tools, for no apparent reason. This creates a lot of unnecessary confusion, particularly for long-time users who have grown accustomed to the old tool bar that remained relatively unchanged for many years. The new icons are no more intuitive than the old ones, and in some cases they are less. Now that Adobe has gone to a subscription model, and doesn't need feature updates to drive software sales, most professional Illustrator users (and Adobe Creative Cloud users) would prefer the company focus on security updates and stop fixing things that aren't broken.

### "Boosted my productivity"

November 25, 2022

5.0

It Helped me in illustration and graphic design. It is mainly used in the design of vector graphics such as logos, illustrations, web graphics, and art for interactive media.Adobe illustrator can be used to create vector graphics, edit photos and images, animate images and video. It also has support for 3D graphics. Illustrator can be used with other Adobe products like photoshop to create a wide range of designs including logos, brochures, posters etc.The best illustration software are Adobe illustrator because it has many features that are not available in any other illustration software such as animation and 3D capabilities

Pros

easy to use tools, can design anything you want to design. Now it has 3d in it, so that you can design mockups in it also.

Cons

Should improve the import part, we are not able to import the other files.

Reason for choosing Adobe Illustrator

because my friend suggested me to use this software

### "My only option for vector designing "

October 26, 2022

Pros

Adobe illustrator is a very versatile application that allows me to design all my stationery, logos and vector illustrations with no issues. Although it is full of features and options, it’s very user friendly and the names and titles are kind of “logic” so even beginners can get along with it, at least with the most basic things.

Cons

It bn is a heavy application so you need to be aware of that when processing certain graphics. Some computers may have a hard time processing the app and some features. Also, I work with Apple devices and Apple and Adobe don’t seem to get along well sometimes, so when one updates the other may misbehave and the apps just crash

### "Great for vector graphics if already in the Adobe ecosystem, but other software can do it better"

April 23, 2018

4.0

Pros

As with any Adobe software, once you know one program you can pretty much pick up the rest quite easily. So, if you are already familiar with Photoshop and Indesign, then this will be a piece of cake to learn. However, if you don't have any experience in these programs the learning curve can be rather steep. What's great about this program is that there are very few limitations. Basically whatever you see in your minds eye, you can create. There are a plethora of tools that can meet any of your illustration needs (and plenty of plugins that can be found online that will expand your tool set as well)

Cons

A major downside is that because Adobe's software is developed by different teams, it can sometimes be frustrating that a tool that works so well in one program is incredibly underdeveloped in another. For example, the transform tools in Photoshop are fantastic; you can warp an image to anyway you see fit. The transform tools in Illustrator however, for a very long time, lacked a lot to be desired (and while I know that this has been fixed in recent updates, it's still a point of contention for me). In a lot of ways, the competing software "Affinity Designer" has expanded upon and surpassed the capabilities of Illustrator. It's masking tools, the way it handles layers, and pathfinder functionality far exceed Illustrator's. If I wasn't already so deep in Adobe's world, I would consider using that program more frequently.

### "Illustrator has no competitors."

August 1, 2018

5.0

Pros

Illustrator does everything a vector drawing program needs to do, plus a ton of other stuff I would never have thought of (and some I still haven't had occasion to try, in 15+ years of using it). Once you get the hang of the interface, the workflow is exquisite. It's full of well-thought-out keyboard shortcuts that make it possible to complete complex procedures rapidly, and workspace presets that display only the most relevant tools for the type of task at hand. What I love most about all of Adobe's creation software is that with the endless keyboard shortcuts and combinations, using it well becomes like playing a musical instrument you develop skills that can be stored as motor memory, allowing your conscious mind to focus on creative decisions while your hands do all the work. Illustrator can read and export just about every format relevant to vector work (and then some), so when you're working with a variety of clients and can't predict what kind of files they'll be bringing to you, it's a pretty safe bet you'll be able to open anything. Of course, chances are their files were created in Illustrator anyway, because it's pretty much the industry standard. When it comes to all the different file types you might need to export for web, 2D presses, 3D printers, laser cutters, screen printing, etc., Illustrator has always had me covered.

Cons

It takes some time to fully train yourself on the many, many aspects of using Illustrator effectively. That said, even a novice can open it up and get SOMETHING done. It'll just take a lot longer, and they likely won't make use of many of the available features until some experience has been gained. Since it's been around so long and is so widely used, any questions that come up can always be answered with a quick Google search, which will bring up tutorials published by Adobe and others, as well as forums where the trickier questions have already been discussed. Being such a feature-rich program, it's also a bulky program to run. That's fine as long as you're working with state-of-the-art hardware, but could start to get tricky if you're stuck on an old machine.

### "Illustrating Beyond Boundaries"

April 6, 2020

I have faith in Illustrator and learned how it behaves. I know it will continue to update, as other Adobe applications do. Best to keep that belief in it and push on with resilience.

Pros

As a professional artist and business creative, Adobe Illustrator has been an application well used in my toolbelt of visual software. From vector creations to typographic layouts, Illustrator never ceases to amaze me in terms of innovation. The thing I like most about it is the guidance it provides for artists and designers really shines through. Specifically, Illustrator analyzes and

Cons

I've learned that each software has a strength of its own. And it's best to understand how it works so you can maneuver through it without a lot of issues. That's why Illustrator really works for me. The only setback would be the brush types. I do wish the variance in stroke would expand more in terms of the lines it creates. I've noticed that the strokes would have lines within them, but would just be copied versions. However, I believe this is a minor issue and not much to dwell on!

### "Industry-standard Vectoring Software"

September 29, 2020

5.0

For the experienced user, Adobe Illustrator is a seamless experience. Almost everything that you need is readily available. The community a quite large and the online resources are endless. There are other alternatives such as CorelDraw and Inkscape, but the workflow UI resources and support you get with Illustrator just makes is not worth to consider other apps.

Pros

Compatibility is the keyword here. Most (if not all) decent design agencies, boutiques, in-house teams, press/printers and even freelancers use Adobe Creative Cloud. If your team is doing serious design work, you'll never go wrong purchasing Adobe Illustrator (along with the rest of the suite). And now that it is available on a SaaS or subscription-based model, Adobe ensures that you get the most recent updated version of the software as long as you/your team is under one of their plans. This is actually a great thing when you consider that everybody else using the software are also using the same version that you have.

Cons

The subscription-based model is not for everyone. Some companies would prefer to have perpetual license for software purchases. This is os it always have been with the Adobe Creative Suite until CS6. When they moved from perpetual licenses to 'Cloud-based' subscription model a lot of the smaller agencies, boutiques and freelancers suddenly found it hard to have access to legitimate Adobe Creative software such as the Illustrator. A lot of users think that the burden of paying $20+ (single app) to $50+ (for the whole suite) per month is a little bit too expensive.

### "Number 1 Go-to for Vector-based Creations"

August 1, 2023

5.0

Illustrator is integral to the design work at our company, since bulk of the work we do involves creating graphics that need to be scalable in size.

Pros

Adobe Illustrator is very intuitive and easy to use once you've familiarised yourself with the controls and functions. The possibilities are quite limitless, and I've used it to create logos, icon sets, illustrations. It is also my go-to program to use when working on typography given how easy the controls are.

Cons

There needs to be some integration between similar functions in Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign - given how these 3 programs are usually used with each other by professionals.

### "Excellent, but very expensive way to create vectors"

December 16, 2021

4.0

Illustrator has a very steep learning curve... and is a very expensive software. If you are fortunate enough to have access to it, it is an extremely powerful tool that allows you to do practically anything with graphics. It's main benefit over the competition is that it integrates seamlessly with the other Adobe products.

Pros

I use illustrator frequently to create vector images used in my merchandise business. More importantly for me, illustrator is quite good at quickly and automatically converting b&w JPG's to vectors that can then be scaled and applied to print and web design. This allows the graphic design team to draw and sketch in pencil, corel, photoshop and basically any other drawing platform... and then be able to vectorize the image for use at any size.

Cons

Illustrator needs more "in-house" tutorials. It has an extremely high learning curve which forces new users to seek out tutorials on line. There are tons of them - but made by independent creatives. These are great but frequently out of date as Adobe keeps updating and upgrading the software. It would make sense for Adobe to finally create and keep updated a functional library of tutorials for new users.

### "L'incontournable pour la création vectorielle"

January 14, 2023

5.0

### "A Graphic Design Must"

April 9, 2020

5.0

Overall, I would rate my experience positively. I am the Marketing Manager for a small company, and do consulting on the side, both of which require me to conduct some graphic design. Although I am not a designer/artist by trade, I've found as our business and my consulting has grown I have needed to enhance my knowledge and skills in GD in order to "keep up". Although you can find work arounds, I would say that Illustrator is a great tool for anyone who works in the Graphic Design field, or even the periphery.

Pros

For an experienced Adobe user, this is an easy software to pickup because it is structured in the same manner as the other Creative Cloud applications. Tools and layering is all the same which makes it easy to adapt too. The greatest individual/unique benefit is that it allows for A LOT more freedom for design than, namely, Adobe Photoshop. The reason I compare the two is that you could theoretically use them for similar static graphic design purposes and get relatively similar end results. However, Adobe allows for far more functionality and flexibility to create and design static imagery, and is far more tailored to true artwork than editing.

Cons

Some of the functional tools are not as easy to manipulate in comparison to other Creative Cloud apps. Using Photoshop as a semi-comparable rival for static graphic design-specific purposes; for the application of manipulating objects and text, I found Illustrator to have a steeper learning curve than Photoshop. Since it allows you to delve into more aspects of manipulating the objects, and to create vector imagery out of anything (or just about) that you create within an ai document, I found myself inadvertently altering objects in ways I was unfamiliar with. To be fair, I did not take any formal coursework or tutorial prior to diving in to using Illustrator, all was self-taught after having more extensive experience with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.

### "Easy and useful graphic design program"

November 4, 2019

4.0

You can use Adobe Illustrator with peace of mind in any design you create with vectors without using real photos. Already I use Adobe Illustrator for 3-5 years. I can do many edits or create by Adobe illustrator. for instance graphic design, web design, site interfaces, firms; like business cards, posters, brochure, logo, banner design. Besides, you can work on every detail clearly and this is not overlooked.

Pros

Adobe Illustrator is part of Adobe pack and in general, it is used by designers. Adobe Illustrator graphic design program. Adobe illustrator is a very easy and useful program. Adobe Illustrator is preferred according to these functions. Customers can make a logo, brochure or flyer design, etc by Adobe Illustrator. The reason why Adobe Illustrator loved by customers is the vector feature.

Cons

If I say the truth, the license price is not cheap for us. in my opinion this is creating a problem for other customers. I can't see any problem related to features except that. But we would like to see new updates and additional features.

### "My favorite vector program"

April 27, 2019

5.0

I have been using Illustrator consistently for 5 years. I initially attempted using it 9 years ago. It was incredibly frustrating to switch from using Photoshop regularly to using Illustrator regularly, but as a branding consultant and logo designer, vectors were very necessary for my workflow. I do almost everything in illustrator now and have spent money on plug ins to make it work even better. I don't know what I'd do without it.

Pros

Once I got over the learning curve it was fairly easy to use and achieve exactly what I was going for. My favorite features are the shape builder, puppet, Adobe Color, and the pathfinder tools. I have played with the spot gradient feature only a little, and even with the glitch explained below, it's a fantastic tool. I look forward to improvements on it.

Cons

If you have a lot of fonts installed, it takes a long time to load the program. Also, the program tends to lag when using fonts. It's common to have a number of complicated fonts on your system, and illustrator will let you know by slowing down a great deal that there's a font it doesn't like. Good luck figuring out which one. The spot gradient tool resets randomly. Sometimes when I move an object that I've set colors for, and sometimes when I simply select the object. When you go through the trouble of selecting all the appropriate colors for your design and they all reset to only 1 of the colors you chose, it is frustrating. This feature needs work. I would use it regularly when it gets fixed.

### "Adobe Illustrator Packaging Designer Review"

November 19, 2018

4.0

Overall I don't love it, but there aren't many great alternatives. Inkscape comes close, but it has a long learning curve; Affinity designer is also great, but, like Illustrator, is paid. In addition, I think people are generally distrusting of Adobe ever since the hack that compromised all their source code, as well as the massive security problems with Flash player, even after Adobe said these problems would be tended to. In my opinion, Adobe has a few years left to save itself. It is doing great now, yes, but given a little more time, programs like GIMP will have poached so much of their market that if Adobe doesn't find a way to make itself more trustworthy or worth the money they will be headed for a slippery slope. Best option would probably be to create a mix of Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, like they said they'd do years ago. Breaking into the 3d game might seem like a good idea, but Autodesk has that whole side of design pretty well wrapped -- and the name attached may be even bigger than Adobe.

Pros

While I have to admit it is miles better in CC than it was in CS6, there are still many problems Adobe Illustrator has yet to fix. One thing they did very will in CC is the new UI layout and navigation, especially for Mac users. Not much changed in the layout, but it was all positive, and the navigation overhaul was a much needed fix.

Cons

\-Crashes & the 'saving but not saving' bug, and especially the 'saving on desktop as a temp file' bug, which I have only experienced on PCs. -On some computers in our office, it was almost astonishingly slow. I'm not sure what caused this, but it always worked on my (new) PC at work, and especially well on my speedy home Mac. -Adobe's documentation and help staff may be the worst I have ever seen. I can't tell you how many times I have seen people complain about a flaw only to have adobe staff reply that it is part of a 'feature.' If every user says it is a flaw, call it what you want -- it is still a flaw.

### "Illustrator Review - Using for almost two decades. "

February 2, 2023

5.0

Pros

Being an artist, I had always resonated with creating, no matter the medium. I was introduced to illustrator in 2005 and recently began using it after a long hiatus. I was surprised that the main components have not changed, but have become easier to use. I enjoy how clean you can make designs and I will continue enjoying it for years to come.

Cons

The transition from paying for one individual program to paying for a subscription has become a little much. As with any art, good materials are costly and Adobe continues to raise prices with very little in terms of innovation. What isn't broken doesn't need fixing, I guess, but considering people may use solely Illustrator or Photoshop, you shouldn't have to pay for programs that you won't use.

### "The Pro Graphic Designer's Toolkit"

March 29, 2020

5.0

I use Illustrator for everything from creating logos and UI graphics to simple online posts for small businesses. The vector format is fantastic for being easily resizable without losing quality or the fine nuance of the artwork. While a bit difficult to learn, the toolset allows you do create anything you can imagine if you take the time to learn. Now, there's a growing army of competition, but in my experience, Illustrator is still the gold standard in the industry.

Pros

Adobe Illustrator is pro software with a tremendous set of tools for vector graphics creation. Personally, I've been using Illustrator since I first started studying graphic design almost a decade ago. Each new version brings us a useful set of performance and tool improvements, but my favorite in the most recent version is the freeform gradient tool. I've always wanted for a way to place gradient points wherever I wanted, and now that's possible. I use it every day and it's speedy, highly customizable (as you'd expect from pro software), and so useful! It seems like such a simple thing, I'm surprised the feature wasn't available before.

Cons

Like all pro software, there's a learning curve, and Illustrator is no exception. On one hand, I understand that it will take time to learn and implement new features. On the other, I wish it was easier to learn and keep up with the changing tide of graphic design.

Alternatives considered

[Affinity Designer](https://www.capterra.com/p/110533/WebPlus-X4/)

Reason for choosing Adobe Illustrator

I chose Illustrator because it's what I learned with. It wasn't until many years later that I found competing products like Affinity Designer and Graphic, but as long as I have my Mac with me, I'll use Illustrator because it's powerful, reliable, and I know the software.

### "Best vector based editor out there! "

August 31, 2021

5.0

Adobe Illustrator is the best in the industry. After a few tries I really learned the basic, and while I still have a lot to learn, I will keep using it, since it is the best option out there. It's really fast and reliable. Overall experience with it is really great!

Pros

Believe me, I spent a lot of years doing everything on Photoshop, and I know some of you do that too. Changing everything to Illustrator was the best decision I made, in years! While the learning curve is kind of medium to hard difficulty. After a few tries you will encounter yourself doing some of the best designs in your career. You can throw some images outside the canvas, for example, and then just drag them and use it, or pick a color from them. Options and possibilities are just infinite, export is really fast if you have a good pc (Use SSD and more than 8gb ram!), and it really connects with other Adobe software's, like Photoshop, you just import everything from there. I really love the art boards feature, I open like ton of them and design social media stories and feed images in a few minutes. It's great and useful for everything. Do some learning and jump to Illustrator, it's your friend.

Cons

Like I said, the learning curve is not the easiest. You will not figure out everything in the software without some tutorials. It's kind of intimidating, and that's why I spent so many years without using it. Sometimes .ai files gets too big, and sharing with coworkers gets really hard.

### "Illustrator, on vectorization and illustration."

December 21, 2018

5.0

At first I really had a hard time running the program. I had previous knowledge of Photoshop, but in part this was more confusing because the commands and organization of Illustrator for some reason are different from the rest of the Adobe family. But once I started to control the program its use became really faster, and ended up being a powerful tool for building much more complex and advanced illustrations. I ended up producing higher level content. Really recommended!

Pros

Handling vector elements and reorganizing them in the desired way make illustrator a powerful tool if you want to apply in the field of Digital Illustration. Its automatic vectorization with different levels of configuration make it an excellent companion when creating large illustrations with fragments of elements or images of generic use. If infinite variety of brushes, colors and transparencies allow each line and spot is exactly in place. It has the perfect balance between interface and functionality. Probably the best program on the market in this area.

Cons

If you want to start in the world of digital illustration, Illustrator is your best option, but it is also a difficult tool to learn how to use. Because of its high professional level it is not usually mastered at first. Apart from its high difficulty the program provides many elements at a glance, but many others remain hidden in an interface that seems to be an endless maze for those who do not know or are familiar with the programs of the adobe family.

### "Such a powerful tool - but sometimes it's difficult to keep up with it."

April 28, 2019

3.0

Pros

So, I've been an AI user for now almost 10 years. I've used it at it's worst, at it's best and at it's "ok" moments. It's powerful and the type of work that you can create is really just limitless. There has been a significant effort in onboarding users whenever it gets a design overhaul or new features are added. I've found that a lot of these updates do tend to boost my ability to perform or create work at a faster speed, and same goes when making edits. I'm a heavy pathfinder user and the ability to just tweak my workplace to my needs, adding different windows and condensing them into one section has been a huge time saver. So in terms of granting you the ability to really modify the space to your liking, it's great.

Cons

I think one of the aspects about illustrator that has over time made it a more difficult tool to rely on has been the constant updates. Yes, those updates are sometimes great and very much needed, but there is no onboarding and the existing tour points hold so much information, it's hard to keep up with it. I think generally speaking, I want to also be able to use the same shortcuts I have been using over time with the software, so when certain aspects of it change - sometimes it does affect my ability to perform at the same speed. I think more efforts need to be done to really create a focused on boarding for users when you introduce new features.

### "The Ultimate Vector Design Tool"

January 17, 2023

4.0

Overall, Adobe Illustrator has become a vital part of the design workflow at my company. We quite literally could not function without it.

Pros

Adobe Illustrator is an amazing software that is perfect for creating vector graphics. It offers a wide range of powerful tools that make it easy to create professional-looking designs, illustrations, and logos. The user interface is intuitive and user-friendly, making it easy to navigate and find the tools you need. The entire user experience has been carefully refined over the last few decades. The thing I like most is how it's integrated with the rest of the Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop. For example, you can easily export Illustrator files as Photoshop files, which will keep the vector elements editable in Photoshop. This is particularly useful when working on projects that involve both vector and raster elements. Illustrator also integrates with Adobe Cloud (assuming you pay for the membership). This lets me easily share designs with my other coworkers. It's absolutely seamless.

Cons

A feature that I've been requesting for a long time is the ability to work with multiple artboards in a single document. This would allow me to be more organized, and to easily switch between different variations of the same design without opening a separate Illustrator window.

Reason for choosing Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator is light years ahead of open source alternatives (such as GIMP). None of the open source alternatives come even close to matching Illustrators comprehensive feature set.

Illustrator is my go-to for creating and editing icons, logos, user interfaces. It has lots of robust features that have been time-tested by creatives for decades. It does have a bit of a learning curve for new users, but people familiar with Photoshop or InDesign will have no problem navigating.

Pros

Some people think Illustrator is unnecessary when Photoshop and InDesign both have vector editing capabilities, but Illustrator is so much more than a clone. The way that Illustrator is laid out - its interface, toolbars, property panels, asset exports - are all centered around quickly and powerfully iterating on vector assets. Illustrator is all about giving precise control over every piece of every asset in a reusable way. Lines and anchors all have precise positions and orientations, down to the thousandths of a pixel. Strokes and fills can be stacked and affected in different ways. The artboard layout combined with traditional layers is perfect for creating a dozen related graphics. Guidelines and grids are very powerful as well, with recent updates making snapping smarter and more helpful.

Cons

Illustrator takes a little bit to get used to, and the 2018 UI update (while I love it) can be confusing at times. For example, if you click on a group of shapes and look at the properties panel you may see half of the options and commands, while clicking on a single shape gives you the other half of them. There is one big thing missing from Illustrator compared to the Sketch app: editable pathfinder layers. In Sketch you can stack shapes and select whether they unite, minus front, divide, etc. Then you can move and tweak those shapes until it's perfect. I SO wish you could do this in Illustrator, but sadly you have to move your shapes first and descructively unite and divide them.
