Pros I have been a Graphic Designer for more than 15 years and I have been using this program since my passion for design began, the interface is very friendly and working in parallel with other design programs makes it very versatile, the color gradients are perfect, work Layered is one of the things I like most about this program, because it makes me have control over the projects I do. the shadow effects are great and as I use a new version they always make improvements to the tools Cons There are very few things that I don't like about this program, but if they tell me I could change it, I would like the curves tool to be easier or more convenient to use. Another thing I don't like is the way of selecting, it's a bit confusing. and to finish other things that I don't like is not being able to have several pages in the workspace. It's very powerful, feature rich, and without a real competitor to speak of. If you want to create really high quality raster art for graphic design, literature, videos, etc, then this is the program for you. The subscription model is all that gives me pause, because it guarantees that you're going to pay dearly over time just to have editing access to what you create today. Pros Creativity is almost limitless with Illustrator. There are tools and options to do just about anything you can imagine. The integration with Photoshop, InDesign, and the rest of the Suite is excellent. Newer features that help with shape building and object continuity help to make it easier to design complex designs. Working with images in your Library allows them to be shared back and forth and updated live. Cons The monthly subscription pricing model is obnoxious. I started with CS3 many moons ago and it worked well for me for a good many years. When I went to upgrade I was forced into a monthly subscription even though I would be perfectly happy with the software as it was a year ago when I started with the subscription model. This allows Adobe to be slow with feature updates while they milk the users for subscription fees. I'd much rather pay more up-front and deal with the software as-is. I also do not like how items are saved once they are updated in the Library. I have a massive temp folder that changes my artwork links. I'm guessing there's a setting to make it more how I would want it, but I haven't found it. Reason for choosing Adobe Illustrator I'm not aware of anything that really compares to Illustrator. Pros One of the most valuable elements that Adobe Illustrator has is its creative options, endowed with great versatility to create more fl exible drawings, rich and full of details necessary to create an excellent design. Another important element to add, is the optimization in the layout, being able to recover details that in other versions can not be made. And finally, I think that the option of developing several work tables is an element of extraordinary value, since you can add details of other designs, make comparisons and take more complete designs. Cons This software has an infinity of tools, which some are very difficult to use, having to do specialized design courses to adapt them to the style of the designer. Adobe Illustrator is very complicated to modify photographs and videos of real life, making limited certain functions with this software. Simply, i have not seen any other softwares with vectors system like Adobe Illustrator. Pros Hi, i am a websites designer, so Adobe Illustrator is very important to me, i use it more than any other Creative cloud software. I use illustrator in making a professional icons for a websites. I use also illustrator to export images and logos to SVG form to use it in websites development. Personally, I use Adobe Illustrator CC, i find it much better than other creative cloud softwares, because it works with vector system, which gives the designs more professionalism. Cons There's not a lot to "not like" about Adobe Illustrator, there are some tools that have the same function, which makes it more difficult to select. In addition of very small menu and tool bars, making using the program hard. But Adobe Illustrator is still the best software in my computer, which I can not worck without it. Vector art is the superior choice for a lot of design work, and I love the seamless way Adobe products work together when I do need to bring various elements together. The sheer number of tools available could be overwhelming, but the way the interface is designed keeps it from feeling like too much. Cons There are so many possibilities that it can be quite a steep learning curve. Also, I'm not loving the way the most recent update changed creating a new document - I can see how it might be handy for some to start by choosing a template or previous layout size, but for me it just adds extra steps...especially with having to choose from among options on several tabs - web, print, etc. I generally go in knowing what size I want my document to be, and I just want to enter the numbers, not pick the closest thing and change it. The extra steps are annoying. It's a small thing in terms of the overall software experience, but because it's always the very first thing that happens, it comes up a lot and annoys me. (I did find a checkbox for reverting to a legacy interface when creating new documents, so that's a plus. I just hope Adobe doesn't decide to change that up again. In college, I used Photoshop for everything and was very intimidated by both the idea of learning to use yet another program and the fact that Illustrator is so vastly different from Photoshop (in fact, the only major similarities are the visual layout of the menus, which are done in a way that most design programs are these days). It took me a very long time, perhaps longer than it should have, for me to learn the basics but once I got that down, I was off to the races. Today, there are plenty of free tutorials on YouTube (some come directly from Adobe) that will assist you will learning the basics, so there is no good reason to keep using Photoshop for things that Illustrator was designed to do better (eg logo design and more than basic illustrations). Pros Illustrator applies mathematics to visual art. Not only by creating illustrations that can fit in an editable grid, but by understanding that the vectors used to create lines are purely mathematical. Vectors also allow the artist to rescale their work without sacrificing resolution and it is the industry standard in design software. Cons It is very difficult to learn without someone to guide you through the process, video tutorials, or a basic understanding of vectors and mathematics as they relate to design. Pros I like the versatility of this platform. I use it for a variety of things, including: – Creating web graphic assets, including email headers, social media mockups, etc. – Designing retail product and packaging – Vectorizing hand-drawn illustrations into digital files for printing at scale – Enhancing personal sketches – Creating a variety print assets, including flyers, postcards, banners and OOO ads Cons The only thing I find clumsy, which is true of all Creative Suite products, is syncing to Creative Cloud. I think the cloud-based file saving and sharing could be helpful, but it never seems to work, and version control becomes difficult. However, we use Google Drive for all file sharing and storage, which solves the issue nicely. I don't find it a negative for this product, but I'm aware we're also not using it to its fullest. Pros It is a great tool since it allows you to design images in a vectorized way, with this you can open other formats and work with what other colleagues have already done in other software, but the best thing is that with the amount of tools you have, you can manipulate the image and create effects that give a unique finish to everything you want to create as well as being able to manipulate the image with great ease. Cons Their updates improve the experience every time, allowing the user to have more focus on their creations and better manipulation on the effects and properties that they want to give the detail is that depending on the equipment used and how heavy the work demands enough requirements to equipment that is being used but if the same one has good benefits will not have any problem. Pros I love the graphic outputs, the vectorization tools and all the file formats that I can work with in Illustrator without any problem. I love the fact that I can work with my shapefiles from ArcGIS without the need of any conversation. But the thing that I love the most about working with illustrator is that I can open any type of file from shapefiles, SVG, CAD, PNG, JPG, PDF among others. Beside the AI and PDF files are universally established and accept. Cons I think that the only thing that I dislike about Illustrator is the prices of the license, which is a little bit high for people like me that likes and works in Latin America, but apart from that I would say that Illustrator is without a doubt the best vector graphics editor in the market because it gives you all the tools and options to manage, edit and create vector data in an easy and quick way, allowing me to create great maps and presentations. You can also apply different colours gradient on your text, background and object. Cons In Adobe Illustrator, we cannot edit a picture properly like we do in Adobe Photoshop. March 29, 2019 4.0 As a digital designer and creative, Illustrator is the software I use for 12 years now for illustration and vector design. Although there are other options out there, Illustrator is still the most complete you can get. Obviously, if you're a designer you'll need more than Illustrator and the fact that for a monthly fee you get the entire package of different pieces of SW from Adobe is a big reason to use it. Pros Illustrator is a BIG software in the creative industry. From any freelance designer to huge agencies use it or have used it in the past. Because it's part of a big ecosystem from Adobe, there's a lot of interconnectivity in between different pieces of software. One simple but very important example is the use of dynamic 'smart objects' (vector designs) within Photoshop for example. You edit it on Illustrator and automatically updates on Photoshop. Very neat! Also, Illustrator is so much more nowadays. The 3D capabilities are really impressive considering it's a vector drawing program. Cons Being such a specific piece of software there's a considerable learning curve. But with the amount of tutorials online that should not be a problem. Also, having used the most up to date versions (on macOS) I've been noticing some slight bugs. As an example, when rasterising a relatively simple 3D design at high-res (300dpi), the bitmap it creates is glitchy and doesn't really match with the original 3D design. That is a pain. I guess someone who uses it daily will learn faster. The vector drawing tool is still far from how user-friendly I would like it to be. I would really recommend everyone who wants to buy this software to get a trial first and maybe test few competitors too. Usually they give offers and discounts after trials, so that's an added benefit. Pros I am mainly using this to create user manuals and brochures. The final files are very lightweight and therefore preferable compared to those created by Photoshop. Cons There are plenty of tools available, but at least for someone who does not use Illustrator daily, they are difficult to use. However, what I like the least is the pricing policy that is very unfriendly to long-term users who do not need upgrades. I would prefer to pay for software once and then use it for years as most of the time I don't need the most recent upgrades. Adobe's policy is good for short-term users and upgrade-geeks.
