### "Powerful but with a steep learning curve"

April 1, 2019

4.0

Adobe Illustrator is irreplaceable for two reasons - 1) It is the best vector design software in terms of features & versatility for any design workflow. 2) It is integrated into other design workflows through Adobe Creative Cloud. Even though there are many cons to it, I use it everyday to get my work done efficiently.

Pros

Adobe Illustrator is full of unique effects that cannot be found elsewhere. For users of other Adobe softwares, this is also very well integrated into other workflows. You can create assets and save them to creative cloud library, and use them in another Adobe software. It also is extremely versatile. Since this software is the oldest, it also is the best documented. Tutorials and forums are easy to find.

Cons

Since it is feature-rich and so versatile, mastering it for a beginner can be intimidating, although this still remains the best vector design software for beginner or pro. Also it does sometimes become heavy on your machine, so you need a lot of RAM to do complex work! In terms of customer service, in my geographic area, Adobe doesn't directly sell and hence does not directly support. This causes a lot of lag in receiving help.

### "A Powerhouse"

October 18, 2018

5.0

Pros

Adobe Illustrator is my go-to program for custom digital and print graphics. From icons to graphs to videos, I use Adobe Illustrator to personalize our brand and enhance our media. I especially like the ability to export my work in a large variety of file types. I love the new feature of being able to crop images like in photoshop when you place them.

Cons

Lately it has been crashing more than usual, which is not my favorite. However, this is rare and usually only occurs when updates haven't been made. Image trace is one thing that I wished could be improved. If your image is simple, it can be very helpful. When the image is a little bit more complex, however, image trace can be very difficult to use.

### "Adobe Illustrator used for graphic design"

November 16, 2020

5.0

It is my happy space. I can easily find every tool that I need and do all the design work that I need to do for the printing company I work for. If I ever have a question I can always find a tutorial on the Adobe website that will help me learn new things.

Pros

I have been using this software for over 18 years and I love how new things are added with the updates. There are always tutorials to help you figure out how to use the new items. It is so easy to use and there is so much that I haven't even after all these years of use have tried yet.

Cons

I think the only thing that I dislike about the software is the fact that it only uses artboards and not pages like Indesign and the file sizes are bigger. So if you are working on a catalog the file sizes are a little bigger than Indesign and you can't do master pages etc.

Reason for choosing Adobe Illustrator

We were looking for more of a design program and it was a program that a lot of other designers were using that were sending their files to us so we needed it to be able to open and fix any problems with their files.

### "This program is the best program I have used for graphic design in my career."

January 20, 2018

5.0

Ability to do my job properly. If I didn't have this software my job would take a lot longer to create and edit graphics. I know there are other software out there, but this is the industry standard. It is for a reason.

Pros

Illustrator is easy to use. The interface is great and intuitive. New patches usually fix older problems or make it more efficient to use the tools. It really does everything I need for work. Creating vectors from scratch or updating files from clients is easy. It also works with other programs like photoshop and indesign seamlessly. Ability to learn more tools and methods is easy to learn through experimenting and online videos.

Cons

Artboards can be improved and allow more customization. Print preferences can be simplified and easier to change. It is hard to make adjustments to previously saved version of print preferences. Also, with the new creative cloud updates the print preferences were deleted and had to be reinstalled. That is another area that can be fixed is that there always seem to be some problems (just a few) when you update a patch. I have a font bug on my computer where I cannot search for a font in the font finder search. Using swatch assets in links panels a lot of the time freezes my illustrator and forces it to crash. Font preferences can be improved similar to InDesign.

### "The best vector based design program out there."

July 19, 2018

4.0

Pros

Using most of Adobe software now this program is just another tool in their swiss army knife. The ability to create vector art in their clean and responsive UI is a pleasure and now being able to incorporate the mobile apps in conjunction with this program allows me to be as creative as possible. Just recently the new update in 2018 with the intelligent property panel allows me to edit on my laptop (single screen) and still be efficient which is a huge plus.

Cons

This program alone is very expensive for what you're getting. Currently I am subscribed to all the adobe products so it's not an issue. But if you're only using this program for vector based design there are other cheaper options out there.

### "My go-to app for vectors and large-scale printing!"

July 20, 2018

5.0

Pros

I am surprised that up to now there is still confusion as to what separates Illustrator from Photoshop. Both are great software hands down. But, hello world... Illustrator is best for vector image creation and manipulation. Illustrator is so intuitive, the tools are there and the icons (and handy tool tips) are easy to decipher even for a newbie. The tools are powerful and covers about every function you'll need to work on vectors. We used this for our company logo (design and subsequent large-scale printing), posters, and marketing materials.

Cons

There is a slight learning curve before one can use this software. It would be great if Adobe (or the Internet in general) releases a more in-depth training for this software. There is a ton for Photoshop! (Why not extend it to Illustrator?) Also, Illustrator is now part of Adobe's Creative Cloud suite of apps. This means you can no longer but a single perpetual license as before. Of course, there is a similar (free) open source version available out there. But not nearly as powerful.

### "an artist's haven for creativity!"

October 24, 2018

4.0

i love the fact that i can create as large an image as i need for an illustration i made from scratch. as a photographer i know the limits of image resizing with the raw file from the camera, so working with vector files and the like with illustrator has been a gift.

Pros

where do i begin? illustrator a comforting breakaway from indesign -- a looser version. it's got a bunch of the same features, but the feel offers more color, more creativity.

Cons

when you want to get to drawing, you've got to mess around for a bit before actually getting a feel of what each effect is going to give you on the canvas. it's a growing pains phase that is especially frustrating if you're making the transition from physical to digital illustration. it all works out in the end, though.

### "Adobe Illustrator is my favorite Adobe Program"

December 9, 2019

5.0

I work as a designer for a Performing Arts Conservatory and I use this program (and Indesign) to create most of my marketing materials, such as quick flyers, graphics, logos, illustrations and more.

Pros

What I like the most about Adobe Illustrator is that I find it to be the most intuitive/ easiest to navigate through out of all of the programs. To do special effects and photo retouching, you really have to use and understand Photoshop through classes and tutorials; same goes for other Adobe programs such as Dreamweaver, Indesign, Incopy, etc.

Cons

I tend to have a lot of strange path/ illustration glitches when it comes to the newer Creative Cloud variation. Other than that, perhaps some freezing or resetting here and there - but otherwise fine.

### "A Pro-Level Program with Novice Support"

March 20, 2019

5.0

I love this program, especially when I use it in conjunction with some oft he other Adobe products. I've taken simple design ideas and developed them into wonderful works of at that I use in my work and hand on my walls at home. I've used Illustrator to create not only artwork, but floor plans and templates for musical instruments and furniture. There is a learning curve, but with enough patience even someone who isn't artistic can be as creative as they want.

Pros

I love how easily I can create stunning looking artwork with very little effort. While not intuitive right out of the box for a beginner, with a little experimentation even a novice designer can pick up the tools and put together something that looks great. Once you're used to the user interface and what the program is capable of the possibilities are pretty much limitless.

Cons

The Pen Tool. When you're first learning Illustrator, custom shape creation is a bit daunting. Understanding how anchor points, handles and bezier curves work together is frustrating, but when that "Aha!" moment happens it's the best feeling in the world. The trick is to keep trying, take breaks when you're frustrated, come back fresh and try again.

### "Best for Vector Imaging"

August 14, 2019

5.0

It is almost impossible to create quality vector imaging and do graphic design work without Illustrator. I highly recommend over free products offered such as SketchUp or Paint.

Pros

Illustrator is essentially unrivaled when combined with Creative Cloud in the graphic design world. We use illustrator for every new icon, logo, image, etc that needs to be used in order to create vectors that are clear and compatible at every size. The best feature is the ability to import and trace images from Photoshop.

Cons

Learning some of the features may be difficult - we start all of our employees out with Adobe's online forums to learn all the necessary features such as trace and pen tool - once those are established everything is pretty straightforward.

### "Great Product Behind an Awful Subscription Model"

January 26, 2021

5.0

Adobe's subscription-only model with constant price hikes ultimately turned me away from their platform. I have decided that the Serif Affinity Suite and DaVinci Resolve would better serve my needs as a consumer. There are several other vector design solutions out there with one-time payment models or cheaper subscriptions that I believe would better serve many other's needs than this program.

Pros

The features were always top-notch. Adobe's TypeKit was a huge benefit as well as their integrated cloud for moving between devices.

Cons

They have been far ahead for a long time in features and innovation terms, but Adobe's innovation has seemed to stagnate versus competition in recent months. Their customer support has often lacked, but I have tried to understand that, with their market size, they are probably swamped with technical support issues. Also, backward-compatibility is hit-or-miss when opening older files on updated software versions.

### "Expensive but Overall Worth the Cost"

February 22, 2019

5.0

Overall, I think this software is the industry standard for many things. I think they've been making a lot of strides with their updates as of recently that have made the software very enjoyable.

Pros

The latest update to Illustrator has added in some really great features to help speed of my workflow. My favorite update is the intelligent properties panel. It really streamlined my workflow by giving me access to all the setting and controls i need when clicking on an object.

Cons

My least favorite thing about this software isn't the software itself but the adobe support and the customer experience the provide. It's very difficult to get in touch with an actual person on their end and often times I end up being transferred at least 2-3 times.

### "Love the product, hate the price"

September 7, 2018

4.0

Great product, easy to use because it's been the industry leader for so many years. Starting to lose some business to newer competing products. Mostly in the web and app design space though. For everything else, this is still the gold standard of vector software.

Pros

I love illustrator for creating app icons and other vector graphics. It's been the industry standard for so long that everyone knows how to use it pretty well and that's a good thing.

Cons

I think the price to high and don't like the adobe cc subscription business model. I wish I could just pay for a piece of software and use it for as long as I want until I'm ready to purchase an upgrade. Sometimes that means using it for more than a year, which is all the lowest subscription price is good for.

### "Adobe Illustrator Good Value for the Printing and Design Industry"

April 30, 2019

5.0

I like the software, as I said before I like it when I am working in the printing industry, but if you are looking to work in web design or gaming industry and need vector files you can choose other options that are way more economic. If you are looking to go and work in a design studio or printing company I recommend to learn it well as most likely it will be used by the studio.

Pros

\- One of the things that I like the most is the capability of working with CMYK colors and RGB without any problems. - The capability of sending files to the plotter with cut lines is very handy, because you can skip other communication software that would make sending files to the plotter or printer more tedious. - Unlike other graphic software when you select an item it does highlight the item contour, allowing you to manipulate the objects in the work area easily. - If you ever use it for web and want to export a file as high resolution transparency,"alpha" image the save for web feature works great. - There is a great variety of available format files to export to. - Is an industry standard for vector graphics

Cons

\- Takes a lot of memory, if you are working on heavy files get prepared to have a good computer or extremely good but has to have some power. - The licence can be expensive compared with other software that can achieve the same results. - It can freeze at times depending on the project. - It is a complex program it has may tools, so the learning curve is medium high.

### "Easy custom graphics"

January 3, 2020

5.0

I love it! Easy to use once you get the hang of it, and for places I can't figure something out, I can easily turn to Google to look up a video showing me how to navigate the system which is helpful.

Pros

I like that I can create completely custom graphics within the program and they are one of a kind. It's also great for when using an already created graphic and needing to modify it to fit a specific project but still have a professional quality look.

Cons

It can be a it difficult to figure out where everything is and how to navigate, even as a long term Adobe product user. Often it seems the same features are across multiple platforms but in different places. The customization of the interface is great - but it makes me "lose" things when I move something on accident. I can always find it, but just difficult because there are so many options sometimes!

### "As for vectorial work, it's a standard."

February 26, 2019

5.0

Overall, as a tool, Adobe Illustrator is almost indispensable in our workflow.

Pros

Illustrator works as one of the most advanced tools to create mainly vectorial and print work. Nowadays it's the standard of the industry, and despite some alternatives, I still give credit to it as it simply does everything. For a creative artist, Illustrator works like a tool to achieve the original concept. A big pro is that it works seamlessly inside Adobe environment. For instance, copying some shape to animate in After Effects is a breeze.

Cons

If we want to know everything about this software, it is a bit extensive in terms of features and tools (but that also is a pro). Also, I miss automation or scripts for repetitive work.

### "Why all designers should use Illustrator"

December 5, 2019

5.0

My overall experience: I have been using Illustrator for over 4 years and it's very easy to use combined with other Adobe creative tools. It's been a long journey and it's a very reliable program, since I can work with layers, colors, and the exporting configurations are the same all over the world, making it easier to send the files for printing.

Pros

What I like about Illustrator is that I can create many kinds of layouts, from vectorial arts, or vectorial illustrations. Besides the program has many ways to export and handle a file, from PDF, to EPS, to SVG, helping out designers + webdesigners + developers. The user interface is very intuitive and easy to use.

Cons

What I did not like is that the adobe licence can be a little expensive for creative professionals overall.

### "It's the industry standard, so let's get with it."

March 10, 2022

5.0

I've been working with Adobe Illustrator since 2004, and am very familiar and comfortable with the software and how it integrates with After Effects, which is the software that I use the most. Adobe keeps on implementing new features and makes you accustomed on not needing to leave the Adobe platform to complete design and media tasks, which can be a good or bad thing depending on how you work and collaborate. I like to use Illustrator, but been using Affinity Designer and Corel Draw on some projects in order to get some tasks done. I would love to see Adobe going back on letting people purchase the software and use a model closer to Affinity these days. Overall you will be almost required to work with Illustrator if you want to fit into the professional design world.

Pros

Very powerful software for design design and vector construction. works seemly with other Adobe products

Cons

It's a subscription based service, so be ready to open your wallet. It can crash, but it has a good auto save feature.

### "My favorite digital art program"

December 3, 2019

5.0

Illustrator makes it incredibly simple for me to produce high caliber work as a graphic designer and commissioned artist.

Pros

Simplicity and ingenuity in the application and use of tools. This program makes vector work for a wide variety of things incredibly simple and worry free. There are at least 3 ways to attempt to do anything.

Cons

Sometimes can be a bit of a resource hog and will hang when saving or closing on occasion, but the minor holdups are negligible.

Cons

Throughout the time that I have used Illustrator I have learned that working with this software can be beneficial since if they ask you to resize some things, you will be able to do it easily and without losing quality.

Pros

Cons

The time to learn to use Illustrator can be a long time, but once you know where the tools you need are, everything becomes fast.
