April 2, 2019 5.0 Great overall experience, especially due to Integration with other Adobe products. Pros Being a part of the Adobe family is the main pro for this software. You can easily edit,import,export vector graphics to and from from Adobe Photoshop. Also if you are migrating away from Adobe Flash, which is now end of life, you can easily import into Illustrator as well to save in a different vector format. Cons Complicated for novice users. While, Photoshop can be used by novice users quite easily, the learning curve to use Illustrator is much harder. This is the trade-off you get with such a powerful program. Review Source JB Julie B. " June 9, 2017 4.0 I can use it for both work and hobby. Pros Even though I wouldn't consider my skills advanced, it is still easy to create artwork following tutorials on using Illustrator. Illustrator has become even easier to use now that I have Illustrator CC version. I am not only using for my work with a public relations agency to manage client's logos and another branding, but I am now using it to create vector imagines and creating patterns for jewelry or other craft projects. That is what is great about Illustrator - there are no limits to what you can use the program for and it is very easy to build upon your skills. I use the eye dropper to create a color palate from a photograph, take the type and make it into a graphic. The possibilities are endless. Cons Maybe too many ways to do something that it can be confusing when you follow a tutorial. I have finally learned to find a person you understand that teaches most of the skills you want to learn and only follow that person. So thankful to have multiple people on my team using this for last minute changes. Pros The ability to customize anything and everything. They also share tons of tutorials for new users how to get them up to pace and learn new features/functions. Cons The initial cost of the software is pretty spendy for what it is, but I know the ability to customize has helped increase efficiencies within our business that would otherwise have to be outsourced for work costing us 3-4X the price. It is my go to for design software. I love being able to make the tiny changes in something that take something from just okay to amazing and there are so many features in Illustrator that allow you to do just that! Pros There are so many great features to this software. I use it a lot to create logos and various graphics for my place of employment as well as personally for free lance jobs. It is very robust and I know I have only scratched the surface of how useful it can be. Cons It doesn't alway feel intuitive-especially when you are trying to figure it out. I would say that the learning curve is steep but its great once you've learned enough. Pros Illustrator is part of every design (and design-adjacent) toolbox for a reason. There's simply nothing on the market that matches its functionality. If you work with vector graphics, you need it. Period. Cons Illustrator is not for beginners. The learning curve is steep – sending a .ai file to someone who's never cracked one open before won't end well. But once you know what you're doing, you're good forever. It is the easiest and most universally accepted format for graphics that need to be sent between businesses, internally, or whatever, most companies have or use Adobe Illustrator for this purpose. Cons It can be hard to learn at first because there are so many buttons and they all do such different things. All around best software Pros I have been using Ai for many many years. I absolutely love this software. Easy to use. Even without professional training. Very intuitive. I have even showed my 12 yr old how to use it and he loves making his drawings come to life with Ai I have used this for 3d business signs, logos, tshirts, car wraps. Business cards. And just for fun layout my house floor plans and landscaping plans Cons Its a little spendy for my budget. There's a large number of features, but you don't need to know how to use those to master the software. Cons I wish there was a more robust tutorial on more advanced features. Rarely do I get frustrated with the program or it not doing what I want. If I can, I will also go to Illustrator for my designs. Pros I really enjoy working with vectors so Illustrator is one of my favorite design programs that I use. I like how they have Illustrator laid out. When working it makes sense where they put certain tools. Cons I least like when there is an update and they move tools around or add/take away things from the pinned bar at the top. Cons Despite being a software considered to be the best in this segment for many years, it could have more brushes for digital painting, even so it is able to solve almost all situations in the area of professional illustrations and creation of graphic works. I use it mostly for scientific figures and the results speak for themselves. Pros I use Illustrator for graphic design and making professional figures for scientific research. I switched from PowerPoint a few years ago and haven't looked back. The quality of Illustrator figures far exceeds those made from other graphic design softwares. For those new to Illustrator, there are intuitive guides built into the software (this is better than most softwares which have online tutorials so you have to bounce between the web and the software itself). It works especially well for .svg files, which is useful for programmers. I tend to export figures I make in python as .svg's and then assimilate them into publication-ready figures in Illustrator, and the vector graphics capabilities in Illustrator make the whole process seamless. Highly recommend. Cons I wish the menu items weren't so movable. That feature can be useful when I want to move the menus around my digital workspace, but sometimes I close out a menu by mistake and it takes me a few minutes to get it back. Switched from [Microsoft PowerPoint](https://www.capterra.com/p/141633/PowerPoint/) I wanted more control over the figure design. PowerPoint is great but very limited in graphic design--understandable because it wasn't created for graphic design! It also contributes to my knowledge in other Adobe software because the materials created can be easily exported to other software. Pros It is easy to navigate through the software once the basic tools are known. The tool menu is listed by the side and the names appear once you hover over them. The tools also have shortcuts for one to easily remember. Cons There are bugs in the software that cannot be corrected even when one has consulted the help/support center. For example, when using the pen tool, it shifts between a pen and an X and the only way to correct is to toggle between the precise cursor in preferences. I highly recommend this to anyone who mentions an interest in design. Pros There is SO much you can do!! Once you get over the learning curve and know what you're doing the possibilities really are unlimited. It's one of my favorite products I use daily. Cons There is so much you can do so there is an obvious learning curve. If you are not familiar with Adobe's other products I highly suggest taking a class or watching a few videos before diving in. Once you get the hang of it, it is fairly intuitive, but requires some effort off the bat. Pros The freedom to design and draw any vector based images. Shade them, resize them, shade them... no quality loss! Adobe Illustration make working with vector based images a dream! Cons I will be honest by saying that starting with Illustrator can be difficult, but again, today we have loads and loads of tutorials out there that will get you up to speed fast. June 12, 2019 5.0 Pros Using Ai can be tedious but once you have time in the software and are able to establish solid use of the quick key features everything goes a lot faster and smoother. Ai Also has great export features that allow me to get back to clients in multiple file types easily. I also love the ability to convert pdfs and work with files that would otherwise have to be re-created. Cons There are a few things Ai does wrong.
