It's really intuitive to use when you learned the basics. Compare to other design tools, Illustrator's pen tool is my favorite. You can create exceptional illustrations with it, with smooth lines and curves. You can also tweak just about anything. The brush shape, every detail of the curves, transparency, fonts, you name it. Cons The layers are a huge pain to use. When you make an illustration, there are probably hundreds of layers and object and it's a huge pain to manipulate them. The file also gets really messy. The keyboard shortcuts are kinda arbitrary compares to what Sketch has. Review Source KO Kathleen O. Along with Photoshop it's one of the two most important tools I have. Pros The extensive functionality of Illustrator allows me to do most anything vector-related for both print and digital design. I've been working with Illustrator for the past 12 years almost daily and can't imagine not having it available at my fingertips. It's a big enough program that I still learn new tricks for graphic design on a regular basis. Pros We are able to produce relevant graphic designs for our seasonal campaigns. It helps to make the overall process quick and easy and takes out the middle man (graphic design team off-site) when we are creating and printing our brochures and posters. Cons This is a well thought out app and I cannot think of anything that is negative. Adobe has done a great job of allowing this app to integrate with it's other apps like Lightroom and Photoshop. I've used other vector based software, but they all lack the versatility and power features Illustrator has. Cons Uses native apps that are quite expensive. Some may turn away from it because of its price. I think it could be a bit cheaper, but its a tool i need, so I carry the cost. Being able to zoom in to the littelest of details and then send it to a printer to be able to print even bigger, all due to working with vectors instead of pixels. For designs, this is the programm you need. Pros Being a marketeer i have to approve a lot of designs made by designers. Being able to adjust to my own liking and exporting as vector file to other companies that print our designs really helps me in my daily work. Cons The learning curve is quite steep. They rarely respond to issues with software update problems. They are basically the only company with such quality design software available, that the price to use is absurd. No I don't want the cloud even though i have to use it. It stinks to have to constantly be feeding into it. It crashes all the time, and moves so slow, which could also be my computer but from other designer's experiences as well. .. it really shouldnt crash so much. It has really served me well. Pros It is a great tool for making professional illustrations in graphics designs. It is boxed up with a lot of tools for making very complex designs. With illustrator you get creative most especially with the lines, it allows for a lot of flexibility. Cons It is heavy and requires a high end computer to be able to work smoothly without having issues loading and using some features. They usually had some renderings, materials used, furniture, etc. and Illustrator made arrangement very simple. Illustrator is vector based, which makes it much easier to print high-quality posters with many different images. Cons A few basic editing tools for individual elements would be nice. For example, sometimes I would like to crop an image on one of my boards to fit within a grid, which I cannot do without cropping the image in Photoshop and replacing the one in Illustrator. Pros Working in the Trade Show Exhibit industry since 1987, it wasn't long until we started to see artwork setup in Illustrator, mostly important for allowing for clean reproduction with out breaking up along the edges. No more excuses for lousy graphics! Cons Although I'm not a graphic designer, I wanted to have AI installed on my desktop so I could see what the art dept was going to see. Pros Adobe Illustrator is extremely versatile and has so many features. It's tools are relatively intuitive to use and can be deployed across a variety of platforms (desktops, tablets, etc). The ability to dynamically link assets across Adobe programs is also invaluable to what we do. It's ability to interact with the cloud is also extremely important for our workflow. Cons Probably the only thing I would count against Illustrator is the significant learning curve it first requires to understand how it functions. It’s tools are powerful and have made digital creation a breeze. Pros Illustrator has been around for a very long time and you’re be hard pressed to find someone who is into digital illustration that doesn’t know about it. It has a massive toolbox for creating just about anything you want and it’s all vector, making it easy to scale your creation to serve any purpose you need. The tools are smart and work together seamlessly. There are a lot of digital illustration softwares out there but Adobe is the best for professionals. Export options are complex and useful and after some time, the interface and shortcuts become second nature to the user. I’ll never use another software for digital creation and vector work. Cons There are SO MANY tools at your disposal it can be daunting at times. However, there are thousands of online tutorials and many from Adobe themselves to teach you how to use it properly.
