We design and create a lot of graphics and videos at work, and the entire Adobe suite has really made sure we are putting forth the most professional content. Illustrator i a little duanting right off the bat, but with time, patience and traning you have very little to limit the use of the tool. Cons There is a steep learning curve here, and you have to invest the time in education to make sure you are learning how to use this software properly. This is a must. The cloud model seems to work well. Pros I've been an Adobe user for several years and illustrator is my go to vector based design program. The overall learning curve is manageable and I've been able to product great looking work using the software. Cons Cloud updates are great but occasionally some bit of historic simple functionality will be changed without warning and it takes a moment to retrain your brain or find that shortcut you've used many times. Overall this doesn't happen often but because Adobe improves the software often you can get tripped up inadvertently. I am not a pro and I think it's not an easy software to use if you don't have any knowledge, but the decision to buy it was because I know all collaborators that I work or will work with know the tool. It has always allowed me to do what I needed it to do. Allows you to work quickly and creatively. One of my favorite programs for sketching free hand. Pros Adobe Illustrator is fantastic for designers with deadlines. As a professional designer, you know that speed and quality are equally important unless your client is perfectly okay with you taking your time, which is a rare occurrence. My favorite thing about adobe illustrator is the ability to quickly turn an idea into a rough draft, and a rough draft into a finished product. Free hand drawing is simple in Adobe Illustrator with the right tools. Probably the best program I have used for free hand designs. The guide lines are easier to use and more useful than the guides you can use in Photoshop. You can make any type of file that you would need to make. When it comes to environmental effects, lighting, and textures there are definitely programs that out perform Adobe Illustrator but it is very simple to export files from Illustrator and bring them over to any additional program you would like to use to finish a project. Cons It is a bit pricey. If you want to get a good deal on Adobe Illustrator you have to buy Adobe Creative Cloud and it's simply not worth it for people who aren't full time professional designers. Pros Illustrator has an abundance of features! We tend to use many of the same features and don't often venture outside of the norm with this software. We primarily use illustrator to create high-quality graphics (i.e our welcome books and flyers) that we send on to our printers and cut files (svg files) that we send on to our sign company for banners and vinyl cutting. With this software we are able to make quick work of our design needs and it is a versatile platform that allows us to save files in whatever format the recipient needs. Cons Unless you work in the design industry Illustrator can be hard to learn. It isn't the most user-friendly for a novice. That is not to say you can't learn and use it successfully, but it is definitely not a software you can just hop on to and figure it out. You will need to research and watch tutorials. It has multiple artboard facility that means users can work with multiple artboards on one canvas. Since this is vector-based, elements can be scalable to any resolution. This is considered to be the industry standard best design tool for vector-based and print designs. Cons Adobe Illustrator is a product from Adobe Creative Suite and it has a price limitation. The price starts at $20.99 per month for the individual plan if the user goes yearly. It will be $31.49 per month if the user selects a monthly payment scheme. Yes, the price is quite hefty. Pros I use Illustrator to create logo designs and it's so easy to be able to draw a logo and transfer it to illustrator where I can then create it into a vector. Working with paths is a lot smoother and the tools are very similar to other Adobe products. Cons Key commands are different in illustrator and can be hard to get used too. I feel like the help search could be a little better especially when you're just searching for a specific tool or function, instead of taking you to the website. Pros I love the creative freedom that illustrator allows. It is truly a blank canvas with unlimited options for use. I also have to give a shoutout to adobe customer service - they are amazingly helpful, they will even offer 3 months of free subscription to dissuade canceling. Illustrator works well alongside photoshop - i regularly work on an image between the two programs and then use the final product in an adobe spark or adobe xd presentation. Cons The learning curve for vectors is a little tricky - but I will say that once you learn one adobe creative suite program - the layout and tools become common sense and are relatively intuitive. There is also a great online community with examples and tutorials for just about everything you could want to learn. Barring the unfortunate crashes, I have not had any issue with it and would recommend. Pros I use illustrator regularly and it truly has no competition when making and editing vector graphics. It is intuitive to use. The app doesn't use so much ram and it also doesn't take up space on the hard drive. The user can animate on already done graphic and this brings amazing results. The app does a really good job of bringing ideas to life and I love it. Cons The app is not the easiest to learn to use. The learning curve is a bit hard to climb.
