I deal with other people's frustrating and complicated problems for a living so this is really saying a lot. Pros Right now nothing. I don't know if this is from a recent update but the save function has become completely unreliable. Auto save is turned on and I always save my changes before closing my documents. Word has been actually saving my changes about 50% of the time. As a result, I have had to do about 10-15 hours of unnecessary additional work in the past two days. I have to save every change I make with "save as" and give it a new name. I'm an attorney, and need to open a document anywhere from 5-20 times to make small adjustments and drafting changes. This is problem impractical and unacceptable. Cons That I pay money for a program that is incredibly unreliable with a basic task like saving changes. As much as I love open-source software, for many reasons, the benchmark has been set very high by Microsoft Word, especially the desktop version. It is 100% worth every penny. It's easy to create, edit, read, set up macros, and more. I can use the templates to create anything from blank documents, to forms such as applications, contracts and more. I have enjoyed the new collaboration features as well, being able to share documents in real-time has helped improve the workflow in our office immensely. Cons I have one major gripe, and that is primarily with the browser-based version of Microsoft Word. It's lacking in features, and customer support has been unable to help me find a good work-around, so we have to edit a document in browser, save and edit on desktop, then save again and finish in browser, for example. Its been around forever and works as expected for creating and editing documents. It includes plenty of features such as adding images, shapes, tables, layouts, headers, borders, links, custom texts, etc. It comes included in every M365 subscription. There's a web application as well as a desktop application for those who prefer it. The ability to export/save as a PDF is real useful as well. Autosave natively built into it for OneDrive is very conventient as well. Cons Adding images and being able to arrange them exactly where you want is still a huge pain, specifically if you're trying to create an end user guide or instructions.
