While the software does what it's supposed to, I still have a lot of problems with it. The services sometimes has issues, old files don't purge automatically, upgrading tends to always cause issues. Pros Symantec Backup Exec 20 is a solid software when configured correctly. You can run multiple backup jobs at a time. The application interface is easy to use and nicely done. Cons The worst part is the config and setup. In order to get all Green successful backups, you need to dot your i's and cross your t's. It could take a while to get everything running smoothly. Sometime, they will sending notification is any threat are found, and i only need to choose either to delete the files or quarantine it. Cons I have try to export the software licenses from my old computer to the new computer, the process is quite frustrating as there is no clear instruction on how to do it. I had to find information from forums and contacting the customer support for this purpose. It should be simple enough and only need a few keystroke to complete it. December 12, 2019 4.0 When it works, it works great. When it doesn't work, it's usually not hard to fix. But you're not going to get a lot of help from their customer support. We have used it to provide protection among a large volume of machines and none of them have had issues with viruses while using this product. Pros This product was easy to implement throughout our company and has been working great since implementation. It send us alerts when certain events are triggered such as a user visiting a malicious site. It does a good job of keeping itself up to date and has a nice console for administrators to use and get a top-down view on how the endpoints are doing. Cons We have run into issues with getting licenses renewed to the point where they have expired, potentially leaving a few systems vulnerable. Customer support takes a very long time to reach and after I did reach them, they provided me with incorrect information that did not help resolve my issue. I only gave them 2 stars as opposed to 1 star because at least the customer support exists, even if it isn't the best. The centralised management make it so easy to to manage thousands of computers from a single console. This is one of the most feature rich antivirus solution I used. The process used to deploy installation to client computers is simple and straight forward. Another feature that will appease administrators is the ability to apply configurations on a mass scale. However, it is too cautious. Sometimes suspects from files that I know safe. Of course I can not be sure. But I know that I used that file on many other computers with other protection software, which does not ring bells and warns like nuclear disaster. It quarantines some files and deletes. I wonder if those files are real threats or just to show itself as 'hey, I am working, you know Pros A very sensitive tool that keeps safe. I have updated my laptop a few times since installing it and it was also extremely simple to transfer over to each new laptop. This is basically a set it and forget it software. It's fairly easy to manage. We have different SEP Managers for reach Active Directory Domain, so it can be a bit confusing at times and there isn't a single portal to manage everything. Overall, managing AV on your desktops/servers is pretty simple with SEP. The ability to have it receive it's definitions from the SEP Manager as well as from Symantec directly in the event the SEPM is unavailable is great. The Symhelp tool is great for analyzing a possible infection in your system to then send to support to analyze. Pros Catches a lot of infections. Easy to mange. Cons Can be a bit resource intensive. There are no annoying adds for upgrading software attached to it either. If you want to buy a antivirus and forget about it, Symantec might be the best solution for you. From a network security standpoint - having an administration based protection package is good if you need detailed reports and company wide alerts. Cons It costs money. While you might enjoy the lack of adds, and update/registration reminders, it still costs money to buy it. There are quite a few free services that are out there which provide great protection (that is if you don't mind the adds and reminders). Occasionally there are issues due to due to Microsoft operating system updates, but they are usually corrected within days. Pros we have 500 clients using this software in 8 languages on 5 continents. We have had ZERO malware incidents on protected assets in 10 years of using this product. It is fast, effective, and fairly easy to administer with both on-prem and cloud options. Cons Symantec's license management and download portal leave a bit to be desired. Things may change with the sale of these products to Broadcom.
