It's been a consistent product with minimal issues (client, install, etc). They're a leader in the their field for a reason but with that being said, for the price you can find something that does the same at a lower cost per machine/license. Pros Client Management, grouping/locations, individual update providers, GUI of the local client. Package creation for certain groups, subnets, etc. Cons Java console is terrible. Citrix protection. Seems to be buggy in a Citrix environment, even when doing the configs they recommend on a terminal server. Pricey! Review Source ZB Zachary B. October 2, 2019 5.0 We solve several business issues with it, the fact that we have a huge network with over 5000 employees just in our headquarters location and city saves us a world of possible issues and headaches we would otherwise face without it. Pros I like the fact once it's set up, you don't have to do much after that, at most the occasional update. Our company uses it for several applications, and various reasons. We monitor all activity coming in, as well as going out. Cons As much as it's a plus, the fact you can set it to administrators or people with access can calibrate it can sometimes be a headache. September 12, 2019 5.0 Improved security through multi-factor authentication. Pros From a user's perspective, Symantec VIP provides an easy way to achieve multi-factor authentication. I was not involved in the selection or setup (it was handled by our IT on a company-wide scale) so am unsure how that aspect of usage is. Cons When accessing corporate data on my mobile device (Outlook, Skype, etc), my organization still requires multi-factor authentication which requires me to have my PC on with VIP open to get the code. There is an option to have it on your mobile device instead (I believe this is mutually exclusive with having it on your PC), but I hesitate to do this for fear of having my access coupled with two points of failure. Has saved the organization quite a bit with regards protecting data. Pros Very easy to use and configure. This package delivers protection against virus attacks, spam, intrusion detection and firewall module. In the past this product was able to clean viruses that other antivirus systems could not have cleaned. Cons Sometimes it can use a lot of memory and processor resources especially when running full scans. Cost can be prohibitive for some smaller organizations. Very much like the consumer-grade security suite. Updates happen in the background with no disruption and offers zero-day protection as well. Cons File scanning is extremely heavy-handed when it comes to file transfer, which is faster with Bitdefender/Ivanti. Sometimes SEP got interfered with Windows updates, in particular Windows 10 despite the fact it's compatible with Windows 10. Cons Some of the updates are automatic , i think users should have options to handle that. Using this after various times i realize that it takes lots of resources of system , other than that i don't think anything more i know . Centralized security management of our devices. Pros We have used Endpoint Protection for many years with minimal issues. We moved to the hosted version last year which has made deployment and management even easier and eliminated the need for a dedicated server. Cons System resource usage tends to be excessive, particularly at system startup and initial login. Cons I would like the live update to make a pop up with the statement that the definitions are current if they are out of date. I like the fact that everything works behind the scenes but I would rather know that everything has been updated. That way, if my laptop is stolen, I don’t have to worry about my companies confidential data getting in the wrong hands. Cons The software is super annoying with larger git repositories as it scans every single file. Git repositories often have thousands of files in hidden folders which Symantec uses a lot of resources to scan every single file. Cons Symantec has been great for us, we have not encountered any viruses since installing them on our work computers, there have been no complaints. Pros The original solution, Symantec Hosted Endpoint, was pretty good, easy to manage and effective cloud antivirus solution Cons When Symantec Hosted Endpoint migrated to Broadcom Endpoint Protection, the solution became a nightmare. The migration process was very confusing and we completely abandoned our Hosted Endpoint seats due to lack of support. Another thing is that it's not intrusive. It works in the background and you usually don't know it's there. Cons One negative aspect of this software is the interface. The interface is user-friendly and the color scheme is easy on the eyes. I think it protects my computer well, as I've been using this software for over 10 years and my computer is still kicking. Cons Updates sometimes fail to install or download correctly, but you just have to try it again.
