Creating custom MSI or simple MSIs by placing files into folders is best for me. I use alternative tools for difference scanning/compiling MSIs ands higher licences are too expensive for education use. Pros Easy to create simple MSIs. Editing MSIs with full customisation and advanced tools mean smooth process in getting final product ready. Scanning to create an MSI is by far the easier feature. Cons Difficult to figure out what feature are available as part of your subscription. Several times I have worked on an msi only to find out on saving or testing that I needed a higher subscription/licence. It's nemesis InstallShield is overpriced, antiquated, and hard to use. Discovering Advanced Installer was a revelation. Pros I love Advanced Installer because it has a simple and clean user interface, and the user interface is easy to use. The support I got from the team prior to an Enterprise Edition license was top-notch. We had a non-trivial installer requirement, and they worked hard to get us where we needed to be. Cons The Enterprise Edition is not free ;) Seriously, I really have no complaints. It does what I need it to, and the support was a pleasure to do business with. Changes are simple to manage and the update process was streamlined as soon as we started using the product. Pros The support team at Caphyon is top three of all companies I've dealt with in more than 30 years of active software use. They are responsive, intelligent, and provide excellent suggestions and corrections. The feature set is huge and their frequest updates provide real feature enhancements not just window dressing. Cons Hard to think of anything... perhaps that It's expensive. But it's worth it. Head of Software Development Information Technology and Services Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Don't know what we would do without it" February 28, 2022 5.0 For us, the overall goal of using Advanced Installer has been to automate our continuous integration and deployment workflow in order to avoid spending time on repetitive tasks, and in order to make it easy for us to quickly deploy software-updates to our customers. We achieved this goal in 2014 and have been using the product as happy customers ever since. The product has been fully capable of catering to our changing needs along the way - and when we have run into problems implementing the changes we needed, the support team (along with the forum) has been able to help us through, every time! Pros Most importantly, we have been able to create a software-installer for our product which initially makes it easy for our customers to install our product in their environment, and subsequently makes it easy for us to publish software-updates which our customers can apply by doing a simple "check for updates" for our product on the application-server/host-machine. The installation (and update) process involves setting up multiple websites in Internet Information Services (IIS), scheduled tasks, testing specified credentials for a specified SQL Server-instance, execution of script which creates/updates a database on the SQL Server-instance, modifying the Windows hosts-file etc. We have Advanced Installer built into our continuous integration (Jenkins CI) setup, so that code commits (pushed to GitHub) triggers new jobs, resulting in a new software-installer which is then used to deploy the updated code in our staging-environment. This way, we know that all of the files (and database) have been updated and we're able to detect any problems, before the same process (just for specific branch) is used to publish official releases to our customers. Our integration of Jenkins CI and Advanced Installer enables us to respond quickly to customer demands, and currently enables us to go from code-commit to published software-update in under 30 minutes. Cons It may be because we're not using it correctly, but we're doing some dynamic switching of content on some of the dialogs, i.e. hiding or displaying fields depending on selections at the beginning of the dialog, and this can get a bit messy when modifying the dialogs.
