### "Pretty Good Program for Billing"

July 16, 2019

4.0

Overall, the program is great and is easy to work. There are parts that are a bit annoying, but for the price it's really great.

Pros

This software is pretty easy to navigate. Although it it takes a little bit of training, it becomes quite simple once you get the hang of it and figure out exactly what you are doing. It's great to be able to pull up the hours by attorney and to see exactly how much time is being spent on each case.

Cons

To see new time and old time together, you have to open different windows. This can be a pain when you're trying to look at the comparison as I have to split screen. Also, if you accidentally hit the "enter" button, it submits the time entry and you have to open a second window to add more time if desired.

### "Not the most user-friendly software, but it definitely gets the job done. "

February 5, 2018

4.0

It integrates very well with Amicus, our law office management software. It's definitely a great value for the money.

Pros

PC Law integrates easily with Amicus, our law office management software, which makes time and billing easy. It has every function that you could possibly need to create a large variety of reports. It's very affordable and meets our needs.

Cons

It's not the most user-friendly software out there. If you're used to something like Quickbooks, this may take a little more training and getting familiar with.

### "The Original in the Industry"

April 17, 2025

2.0

I have used it for over 20+ years and when it was working it worked well. But as I said it has now been replaced with cloud based software.

Pros

I respect that it was an innovator in its time

Cons

It is now obsolete and no longer offers IT Support

### "PCLaw is a competent suite, but absent a unique use case, is outpunched by its competition."

February 1, 2018

4.0

Pros

PCLaw probably offers the most depth around the edges in the practice management and accounting software space for lawyers. With PCLaw backending your workflow and a competent bookkeeper helping run your reports, your books will be five by five. If, like me, you've been made familiar with PCLaw because it was what was in use at a firm, you won't rue the fact the you have to interact with this software. It does its job effectively and without fuss.

Cons

Unless you've isolated some use case that its competition does not cover, you'll likely be spending more money and more time making PCLaw do what others can do more efficiently for lower use fees. If like me you've been in charge of selecting the software solution for a firm, you may well find yourself asking why you'd pick PCLaw over a competitive product. As noted, there may be some peculiar fee structure or left field accounting best practice that only PCLaw will let you manage efficiently, but in my experience it wouldn't be the top of the heap.

### "PC Law is great, but updates can assist it to be greater"

January 9, 2018

4.0

Pros

I like the versatility of the options and the ability to have an all encompassing application for my accounting needs.

Cons

I don't like the ease of use. It is a little dated. It could use a more consolidated approach to the various features offered.

### "For Large Law Firms that Hate Change"

November 8, 2022

3.0

Pros

It has all of the basic requirements for legal practice management, billing, etc. and should meet the requirements of most Law Societies.

Cons

It feels like using a typewriter instead of a word processor. It will work, and in some respects it's better, but it lacks all of the bells and whistles of modern cloud-based practice management software. If you are 50+ and are afraid of technology and change, then PC Law is probably a good choice. If you prefer to work with modern software and to access new features that can help make your practice more efficient, then PC Law likely isn't for you. PC Law is like the senior lawyer in a law firm that has been doing things the same way for the past 40 years. If it ain't broke don't fix it may work for lawyers that are close to retirement, but it won't work for younger lawyers that prefer the flexibility, integrations, and accessibility offered by cloud-based competitors.

### "Initially, I loved the product, but as time went on, I found a great many flaws in the program."

March 7, 2018

2.0

It did help us to realize more specifically what we needed in a comprehensive program.

Pros

As we moved to this program from a general office (not law related) software, I liked the improved ability to keep trust accounting quite separate from our operating account.

Cons

There were flaws in the software that made visible accounting errors which could not be corrected. The problem was first noted by a client or two and then, when we recalculated by hand and separate calculator, the errors were very clear, but there was no way to correct the PCLaw information. No matter what we tried, the program refused to accept the corrections. Ultimately, we made the tough decision to move to another program, as we lost at least three customers and countless hours over the problems caused by the program errors.

### "Prone to crashing"

February 12, 2019

2.0

Pros

The edition we used would crash like clockwork. It was tough logging a day's worth of tasks if I wasn't sure when I clicked to submit at the end of the day that all entries would be accurately reflected. Easy to fix for the most part, but sometimes it didn't help me get out of the office any quicker.

Cons

Again, the crashing made it difficult to enjoy using.

### "Has not kept up with the times"

April 9, 2019

3.0

For very basic use I guess it’s an ok system but we have moved towards a system with more options and complex options outside of the basic options provided. Outdated and it’s a shame.

Pros

The calendaring and time keeping is easy and simple to use. Not rocket science and gets the job done.

Cons

The functionality is limited. Case types and cross functionality is missing.

### "Solid software option for Legal Firms..."

July 6, 2023

4.0

Pros

PCLaw shows it's best features through it's efficient data entry and generating reports fast. The program can also hold a decent amount of matters.

Cons

The program does showcase some outdated features, which unfortunately cause it to stall and freeze at times.

### "Software so old it should be encased in amber"

July 13, 2019

2.0

Buggy, sluggish, crash prone, outdated, outclassed and overpriced.

Pros

I am hard pressed to think of anything positive other than maybe it was great in 1995?

Cons

As an IT consultant working with a firm that has used PC Law since 2004, I have made the recommendation to ditch this software after uncovering the debacle that is attempting to move past version 14.2. Lexis Nexis has had so many problems with version 15.x and 16.x since haphazardly making the switch to Microsoft SQL that they actually pulled the software. So a law firm that pays and annual contract cannot move past PC Law 14.2 for the foreseeable future. Firms that made the mistake of moving to 15 or 16 before apparently have had a rough ride. This software is straight out of the 80s and they make no effort to improve the UI or anything else.

### "Extremely slow performance"

June 1, 2023

1.0

Pros

Not intuitive design. There is no obvious Save function. Just Save and Close... why? what if I don't want to close, just to save?

Cons

very slow, especially after the latest upgrade. Not intuitive design. Rudimental search functionality. Printing functionality just doesn't do what you choose to do.

### "Never going back"

October 15, 2019

3.0

We're not going back to it. We're currently using Centerbase and really like it.

Pros

It's nice that the software runs certain reports such as summary of all legal fees and the payments towards the end of the report. It is also nice that it runs reports as to what are considered as "write-offs" and what are "credits".

Cons

Difficult to use. Every single time pcLaw is open on the desktop, it freezes the entire desktop--therefore, it's impossible to do anything else besides just staring at the screen waiting for it to hopefully work. Very finicky, you have to make sure that everything is correct the first time, or else you'd have to go back and wait a long period of time again to just make 1 correction.

### "They will not provide API to integrate with my case management system"

January 2, 2021

1.0

Looking for a different accounting package. Been with this package for years.

Pros

Not sure if I can give an answer to this question.

Cons

We upgraded to the most recent version in hopes that we could use their API to share financial data with a separate case management system we use. The data for both is stored on our SQL database. Unfortunately, PC Law will not make their API available. After spending the time and money to upgrade, it appears it was all done in vain.

### "Data curruption issues"

November 6, 2019

2.0

very bad tech support. I would stay away from this product. there is a huge risk in losing your data. This is especially worrisome if you operate a trust account.

Pros

I used it because it was what I was taught on, but it is clunky and unstable.

Cons

I had data corruption issues almost monthly. I spent hours on the phone with the tech support to try to fix it. They said that only they could fix it and i could not know how or why it was happening.

### "Do not recommend"

January 21, 2021

3.0

Pros

I like the product is integrated - time keeping, generating bills, with check book.

Cons

I first purchased the product 15 years ago when it was an independent company. Service has gone downhill and the yearly service fees has gone up since \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] first acquired it.

Reason for choosing PCLaw

WHen purchased, I like the product and the service

This used to be a great product with exceptional customer service. Now it is a complete mess

Pros

Cons

A complete mess when Lexis Nexis changed it base data base. Horrid functionality ever since and customer service also a mess.

Reason for choosing PCLaw

At the time it was the best overall complete solution

### "I use this software daily and it is pretty user friendly. I do everything on it except payroll."

July 24, 2018

4.0

I can look at activity on a file, time that has been posted in bills and easily reconcile bank statements.

Pros

That it integrates with Amicus to produce monthly bills and is easy to use. I like that it populates frequently used vendors and such when you are writing a check or recording a payment

Cons

That you can't archive a matter until you've closed the month there is activity in it. That when you search help topics, it isn't really user friendly.
