Pros

  • Overall, my experience with Nextgen is great. Tech support is outstanding, the application is easy to use.

  • I think it has great qualities that just need some tweaking to be really fantastic.

  • That it is easily customizable/configurable. Love that we can create a template on our own if NextGen doesn't have one that pertains to what we need.

  • I love the continued improvements and innovation.

Cons

  • The new patient portal is also a buggy mess that we cannot get to work any time there is an update.

  • My team has experienced an ever-increasing number of tickets go completely unanswered, then when tracked down they are just listed as known issues and forgotten about.

  • For Self-Pay issues, there is no way for errors to be caught.

  • It is blocky and does take more clicks than other EMR systems to get where you need to go sometimes. Also could use an overhaul on the permissions that allow potential for mistakes.

"NextGen EHR "

Overall: Our account manager is really responsive to us. If we have issues, he is always on top of getting us help.

Pros: I like the way the system is set up. It is easy to navigate.

Cons: Too many ways to the same thing, that if a provider picks the wrong way to do it, then it might not get captured right for reporting.

Switched From: RPMS
Reasons for Switching to NextGen Enterprise: Wanted a newer system than RMPS, also wanted a better reporting system, which we have with NextGen

"Nineteen and a half years with NextGen Enterprise"

Overall: Over all Nextgen Enterprise is a solid choice for a big practice. They scope of tools and options make them a prefect out of the box choice to drive your A/R well under the 18 days. We have been under the 14 days after a year on the product.

Pros: Staying on top of regulations and requirements. They seem to be trying to innovate and improve the product each year. They are on top of the MIPS requirements with workflows that help achieve those goals.

Cons: If you are hosted by NextGen there are some issues with lag as we are a small client and we are on a leveraged server with other clients. Q&A is lacking on the product as they rush to push out features to fast breaking features at least once or twice a year.

"Get out while you still have your sanity"

Overall: I cannot wait to get out of our Nextgen contract and move to a company that does not feel like a sinking ship. Nextgen hasn't been modernized in what feels like ages, and the "new" version 6.2021 is very buggy. The new patient portal is also a buggy mess that we cannot get to work any time there is an update.

Pros: I like that we are very intertwined with Nextgen and I already have a very serious knowledge base.

Cons: The quality of support services has been on a down trend for years now. Reps are constantly changing, institutional knowledge has almost totally disappeared due to outsourcing. My team has experienced an ever-increasing number of tickets go completely unanswered, then when tracked down they are just listed as known issues and forgotten about.

"NextGen is Great, but Could See Some Improvements"

Pros: That it is easily customizable/configurable. Love that we can create a template on our own if NextGen doesn't have one that pertains to what we need.

Cons: Some of the templates are really long and cumbersome to get through. Too many fields to fill out and too many clicks for the Providers.

Reasons for Choosing NextGen Enterprise: We have been using NextGen for 23 Years. There were not many EHR/PM systems back then to choose from. Liked to be able to create our own templates for use.

"NextGen Review "

Overall: Overall, I'm not impressed with NextGen. We are constantly dealing with "known issues" that are not resolved. We have issues with the portal experience and often hear about them too late. It's honestly embarrassing to have to constantly tell patients we are having issues with the portal.

Pros: I like that we are able to customize it to our specific needs.

Cons: The patient portal experience needs work. We also have some doctors who struggle to chart in a timely manner with NextGen.

Alternatives Considered: Epic and athenaOne
Reasons for Choosing NextGen Enterprise: We selected NextGen because of cost and customization.

"Long time nextgen user"

Overall: I have using this product for quite some time, I have become quite good at navigating and making it work,

Pros: the patient history which shows all encounters including telephone note, pta's, visits

Cons: the fact that the areas to chart in pop up, which means you can't navigate behind them, so for instance look at an old note, labs, correspondence while charting on a patient. I'll be honest having used EPIC at a side gig I Have been working, I didn't realize how much more clicking there was in nextgen.

"Review of Next Gen"

Overall: i came from a platform that was visually much better and it was much easier to run reports and get what i needed. It took me 6 months to teach myself to get what i need from reports. I feel there are too many clicks and steps to get to one thing. Payments applied should be easy to access for patients calling in. I feel its difficult to self diagnose any issues because of all the steps and multiple places you have things to resolve one item.

Pros: I like many features but i feel they are made much more complicated than necessary with too many clicks. I like the reporting but feel its " almost " there. The dashboard for financial analytics is great but i would like to be able to get charges and payments in detail on PM side to reconcile against dashboard easily. I think it has great qualities that just need some tweaking to be really fantastic. less clicks, to get the job done, not having to do the same thing in several places to make one thing happen would be great. It is a good platform but i would no classify as great yet...

Cons: all the clicks and multiple steps to get to one thing. Visually its outdated. incorporating AI would be great. easier ways to show where payments are applied for quick view for calls.

"Good customized templates, sub-par tech support"

Pros: I like the customizability of the templates

Cons: The amount of issues that come up on a daily basis is annoying. Also, the quality of support has not always been up to our expectations especially since the majority of the support staff was let go for some reason. We get frustrated frequently when we open a support ticket explaining in detail what steps we have tried and the only resolution we receive is a basic user guide that does not solve the problem whatsoever since we already knew how to do the steps in the guide.

"Nextgen Best in Class EMR"

Overall: Nextgen is a very god system that offers the flexibility to do self-developments of their KBM Templates, it allows the client to do APIs to meet the client needs when connecting to 3rd party vendors.

Pros: Template Editor offers the ability to self develop templates to meet the client needs.

Cons: Ability to adapt to the client needs. All has to be self-customized by the client.

"High quality affordable EMR system."

Pros: Easy to maneuver and use for the end users. High quality in functioanlity, Tons of intergration platforms to enhance. Customizability is high and very useful.

Cons: Aesthetic is not the greatest. Being an old out of date 32 bit application, it needs updated to reflect something similar to EPIC. It is blocky and does take more clicks than other EMR systems to get where you need to go sometimes. Also could use an overhaul on the permissions that allow potential for mistakes.

"Can be modified to do what you need"

Overall: Could be better. could be worse. I wish it came better equipped out of the box.

Pros: NextGen can be modified to do exactly what you want but you will have to pay or have a programmer on staff that knows how to do it.

Cons: If you do not have a programmer on staff, it can be very costly to customize it. Ambien Assist is very expensive.

"NextGen is flawlessly architected"

Overall: This software goes from engaging a patient to diagnosis, treatment, script, and billing. It is efficient and flexible, allowing customization for each user. And the staff of NextGen is outstanding in training and running the product and in their enthusiasm and passion for it and for improving healthcare delivery.

Pros: This software not only provides for all aspects of EHR and admin in medical practices, it actually saves providers' time, allowing it to be better spent on patient care than on admin.

Cons: I would like to see more open API's to allow software development with complimentary proprietary products. The good news is that NextGen appears willing to explore such opportunities.

Reasons for Choosing NextGen Enterprise: We were so impressed with the professionalism and caring of the staff as well as the comprehensiveness of the product.
Switched From: DrChrono
Reasons for Switching to NextGen Enterprise: NextGen was much more comprehensive and we were expanding into a full blown telemedicine provider.
