### "Free and Super Flexible CAE Tool"

July 22, 2021

4.0

I currently use OpenFOAM for simulation in the field of automotive technology.

Pros

Considering how hard it is to find a good and free simulation software, OpenFOAM is a gem of a simulation software. The use span across many fields. It is probably one of the most flexible simulators out there and that is what I love most about it. I'm still getting used it but I get an idea of what is being solved and how it is solved in the solver as it allows me to check the code. This makes code implementation easy and smooth.

Cons

It is a code based tool, so ample amount of programming knowledge, especially with C++ libraries, is required unlike most other tools that use a graphical user interface. And since it is easier and quicker to use GUI as a beginner, learning to use OpenFOAM is tasking as there are limited resources available on the internet. I hope I can contribute to OpenFOAM knowledge sometime soon.

### "An Open-Source CFD Software for Simulations"

April 6, 2023

5.0

Despite its learning curve and computational requirements, it provides a vast array of tools and solvers, which can be tailored to specific needs. Overall, I highly recommend OpenFOAM to anyone looking for robust and customizable CFD software.

Pros

It is open-source software and its code can be modified by anyone to suit their specific needs. It is highly customizable, allowing for a wide range of simulations and modeling. It provides accurate and detailed results for complex fluid dynamics problems.

Cons

One downside of OpenFOAM is its steep learning curve. As open-source software, it is not as user-friendly as some of the commercial CFD packages available in the market. It requires some programming knowledge to use and set up simulations.Another limitation of OpenFOAM is its computational requirements. It requires a powerful computer or a high-performance computing (HPC) cluster to run simulations with large meshes and complex physics.

### "OpenFOAM: A Powerful and Versatile CFD Tool with a Steep Learning Curve"

April 3, 2023

4.0

OpenFOAM is a versatile and powerful tool for CFD analysis, thanks in large part to its open-source code and active user community. While the lack of a GUI may be a limitation for some users, the efficiency and flexibility of the solver make it a valuable choice for those working on complex fluid dynamics problems or non-standard geometries.I would say that while OpenFOAM is a powerful and versatile tool for CFD analysis, it may not be the best choice for users who are looking for a more user-friendly interface or who are less familiar with LINUX or command line inputs. While the software can be a valuable tool for experienced users, it may require a significant investment of time and resources to learn and use effectively.

Pros

Having used OpenFOAM for CFD analysis on multiple occasions, I have found the software to be a versatile and powerful tool. One of the key advantages of OpenFOAM is that it is an open-source software, allowing for extensive customization and adaptation of models to fit a variety of engineering cases. This flexibility is particularly valuable when working with complex fluid dynamics problems or non-standard geometries. While the lack of a graphical user interface (GUI) can make the software somewhat challenging to use, it also allows for a more efficient solver since the software does not have to share computer resources with graphics. This means that OpenFOAM can run simulations quickly and effectively, even with large amounts of data or complex geometries.Another positive aspect of OpenFOAM is its large and active user community. With many users around the world sharing models and providing support, there is a wealth of resources available to help troubleshoot issues or optimize simulations. Additionally, the software is continually updated and improved upon, meaning that users can benefit from ongoing advancements and new features.

Cons

One of the biggest drawbacks of OpenFOAM is its steep learning curve. Compared to other CFD platforms like Ansys Fluent and COMSOL, OpenFOAM can be more difficult to pick up and use effectively. This is largely due to the lack of a graphical user interface (GUI), which means that users must interact with the software using command line inputs. This can be particularly challenging for those who are not familiar with programming or scripting.Another downside of OpenFOAM is its lack of a GUI, which can make it less accessible to some users. While the command line interface can be powerful in the right hands, it can also be intimidating or off-putting for those who are not comfortable with this type of interaction. Additionally, OpenFOAM requires a LINUX operating system, which can be another barrier for users who are more familiar with Windows or other OS platforms. This can require additional setup time and resources, particularly for users who must install a virtual box to run the software on a non-LINUX machine.

### "Buena herramienta de análisis de comportamiento de fluidos."

May 13, 2024

4.0

### "How Helpful is OpenFOAM? "

May 23, 2023

5.0

I would think it's beneficial because you'll learn some interesting new information that you can apply to other things as well! If you're seeking a simple solution, you might want to explore elsewhere. I'm still studying OpenFOAM, so what do I know.

Pros

Writers for OpenFoam can create solvers for single-phase, multiphase, isothermal, or heat-transfer flows, as well as solvers with moving or fixed boundaries, fluid-structure interaction, and rotating reference frames. You may create solvers that model electromagnetics, elasticity, and combustion.

Cons

The absence of a GUI is consistently seen as one of OpenFOAM's worst drawbacks. It's an unusual policy to create the code, give it away for free, and then charge money to fix one of its biggest shortcomings.
