Pros It's the best Two Factor authorization solution. Most convenient as I can use either my smartphone or a USB fob, as the 2nd factor. Cons Just like any two factor solution it takes much more effort than just a single factor login. Pros My employer uses Duo Security for two-factor authentication when logging into HR-related software or, more recently, Covid-testing & compliance. Two-factor authentication is the gold standard for login security. Duo mobile immediately sends a push to my smart device (phone, watch, etc.) where I approve the login request. I am consistently amazed at the speed of two-factor authentication; as soon as I approve the login, Duo confirms and logs me in. It makes two-factor authentication nearly effortless. Cons Those using multiple accounts for multiple employers may have to shuffle with the software a bit, but it is nothing overwhelming. New features are rolled out occasionally, so being an admin it is a good idea to keep up-to-date about it. Pros Working on the end-user side of things is very easy. Just "allow" a login, no hassle with codes. Also having the (Apple) Watch app available means users always have a device very near. On the admin side of things the configurability is impressive. We are running a sync with or AD so provisioning users is automatic. Cons It is a bit pricey as ie.e Azure MFA does most of the things as part of the EMS bundle (so if you have that, that is an option). Also on the end-user side, I find the Apple Watch is a little lagging (couple of seconds). Not a big issue, but a little annoying sometimes. It quickly became a seamless part of my daily workflow across my organizations single sign-on process in a variety of programs and applications. Pros Our organization implemented Duo for its organization-wide single sign-on multi-factor authentication program in the last year or two. The process of signing up for my account was simple, and since starting, I've almost stopped noticing that I use it. I have it set up to ping my watch to get approval when signing in, but users are able to get phone calls, text messages, or a mobile notification through their app. These options make it flexible enough for users that may not have a smart device, etc. Cons Unlike other MFA apps, this does not have an Authenticator feature or any other frills. Pros Duo is used by my institution to keep our information safe. We use the DUO factor login and it is easy to set up and to use. You download an app on your phone and it will call/text/ or send a push notification when you login to your website. It works seamlessly and never seems to have a problem. Cons It can be a bit of a pain when you leave your phone in your office or somewhere else and then go to login to a company site that needs the authentication with DUO. You can't login with out your phone and it can end up being a hassle. But, it does keep your information secure. The phone app was initially difficult to set up and I actually gave up at one point, but once it was on my phone it has been no issues. (I've actually installed and verified a few phones and it always a hassle..) The three options for verifying identify is convenient - call, message, or notification. I generally use notification, but have used call when I had poor cell service. The notification is handy because I do not have to unlock my phone and the notification disappears after you approve the log-in. The time out feature is meant to keep your account secure but can be an issue if you don't have your phone close by/ don't approve in time. Cons Selecting "Stay logged in for 7 days" only works sometimes for some reason. Review Source AS Anindita S. The reason being many a time mobile phones are not connected to the internet or not in the vicinity. Pros Our university switched to Duo securities some time back for authentication purposes. Security, of course, increased several folds. Also, Duo allowed multiple login/authentication. The enhanced security becomes very prudent when dealing with sensitive data. Cons Be ready to keep your mobile phone close to you when you want to access the accounts that need authentication via duo. My biggest issue is the extreme dependence on mobile phones. If the phone is lost or not in your vicinity, it becomes cumbersome to log in. Also, once you login the software sends a push notification to your mobile. The duration that push notification remains active is significantly less. There have been many instances when a notification was pushed to my mobile device, and my device was not within my reach. By the time I retrieve my device, the push notification expired. Pros You get push notifications instantly, and you don't even need to get into the app, it can display a notification in your notifications bar (Android User) and you can approve/deny from there. Also, if by mistake you deny the login attempt, it gives you a "second chance" to get into the app itself and approve it. Cons Nothing to complain about this as of now, I was an RSA SecurID user and having to carry that small key was a nightmare. One thing I'd like is to get Duo Security for Windows, I work remotely and I could have that installed on my home's PC. What if I get my phone stolen and unable to buy a new one??? I highly recommend it. Pros The DUO app and software is quick and easy to use and does what they advertise - they only let in approved users to the platform or software. My work is completely safe and allows my clients to know that their information is handled with caution and is not given to third parties. Cons I would love the best of their software to be free but at less than five dollars a month per user you can't ask for more really. There is a free version out there for the cost conscious. It is very easy to use and even less tech-savvy coworkers find it easy and straight forward to use. Pros Once Duo is set up, it's super easy to use, whether responding to a push notification or generating a one-time use password. Cons When attempting to change preferences in a browser to allow it to retain your login status, you must cancel an initial automatic push from the authentication screen in a browser, check a "remember me" box, then wait some time before attempting another push. This is a security measure, but a minor annoyance when trying to quickly make a change and move on. Review Source MS Manju S. It also gives authentication code on my mobile phone for extra security. If I dont have my mobile phone then I need to reach out to IT team, only then I can login which makes it very secure. Pros After setting it up for the first time, it saves a lot of time in login. It's single click login to all the softwares I need. Cons Setting it up for the first time is tricky. Changing the mobile number for authentication is also a little difficult. On Mac it needs a lot of updates every week. I use it as a graduate student to protect my employment information. Pros Duo Security is generally very simple to use with a smartphone. When WiFi is available, it's as simple as pulling out my phone and accepting a push notification. It gives me peace of mind that my account is more secure. Cons When your phone isn't getting good WiFi, Duo gets a little tedious. I don't store the app on my main screen, so I have to go into a back folder and find a code to enter in. Security Analyst Marketing and Advertising Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Duo Security for MFA" April 9, 2023 5.0 Pros Duo is my favorite authenticator app that I use. I've switched phones a couple of times at this point without doing a full backup, and I find that Duo makes it the easiest to recover my accounts on a new device. Duo is also incredibly popular so I can use it nearly all the time when setting up MFA, which means I don't need to have a large selection of authenticator apps on my phone. Cons I find that the 'push' feature for Duo Security does not always work/send to my device. However, I can always type in the 30 second code for access. It makes sure no one else logins to your account but only you. The main benefit of this software is that our work done till date is secure in our machines. Pros The best thing about this software is that we can not login to our work station until and unless we pass through Duo Security. There is a mobile app for this which makes it easy to authenticate. We just need to tap "Approve" on the login request sent to mobile app. there are three types of login. One can choose any type based on our convenience. One can login using passcodes, call on spot or just clicking approval system. Cons There was issue when I lost my mobile phone and I wanted to configure duo again to login to my work station. Adding account was so time consuming that I had to wait for the Administrator to add my account again. A quick tap of your phone screen or key in a passcode, and you're in business. Pros Duo makes multi-factor authentication super simple. The app makes verification seamless on your iPhone or Android device, and the fobs may be used without the app. Duo can also text or call users to authenticate, and you can save your preference for 30-day intervals. We implemented it so that we could have unified MFA over multiple platforms--VMware and M365, for example. It also gives users who don't want to use an app on their phone the option of using a hardware key. Setup and integration isn't too rough and the support is excellent. Pros Being able to manage multi-factor authentication from a single point is the biggest benefit to this software. When you have disparate systems, all offering their own implementation of MFA, management becomes an issue. Duo solves that issue. Cons The administration interface takes a while to get used to. If you stay away from it for a while (when no one has any issues with it) it takes a bit to re-orient yourself. Reason for choosing Cisco Duo The support was a large factor. Duo informs you if there are issues with a segment of their product so you're never surprised if a user calls the helpdesk. Also, the VMware integration was a big factor for us. It has been easy to use and I have enjoyed it since they implemented it. I have used the app for the quick login and it has been great! Pros This software is easy to use. Once my work shifted to this, I was able to easily understand and pick it up. Having the app on my phone also makes the duo authentication very quick or sometimes I will also have the system call me!
