I can easily have over 20 tabs opened at the same time, I can also group them in the tab bar. The best thing in a browser is also the possibility of re-opening tabs if there is a crash, and Edge is very good at recovering. Also, the new Copilot right bar is something I am using a lot. Cons Some tabs consume a lot of memory, so I had to upgrade RAM to 32GB overall in my PC. Lack of extensions, but still seems to have compatibility issues with some websites, may be a deal breaker for you. TBH most of us are going to stick with what we have, but if you want to try Bing AI they're holding it hostage. You are required to use Edge to access it. Pros I'm on a Mac, so dont get Edge as the default browser. I downloaded it because they wont let you use Bing AI otherwise. I use ChatGPT, You Ai, Perplexity, Claude, Bard, and Playground all day, every day. Bing is actually much more succinct than the other tools, has updated search results, unlike ChatG, and can display tables. Since I haven't added many extensions, search results are clean and uncluttered. It's also pretty fast and has lots of ways to organize bookmarks, tabs, etc but I haven't used the features yet. Cons Too many options and quick links on the main page cause straight up chaos if you're doing research and need to get search results quickly. Edge also doesn't have as many extensions as Chrome, so you cant really customize it and expand its performance. This is a doubled edge sword, however, since extensions can create conflicts with certain sites and ruin the search experience. Also, it's apparently slower than other browsers but seems robust to me. Reason for choosing Microsoft Edge I wanted access to Bing AI. January 5, 2024 5.0 Edge is my default browser! It is very easy to set up and customize to meet all of my browsing needs. It loads fast and maintains all of my data, bookmarks, and history across multiple devices without any problems. I'm also really liking the new features that Microsoft has added and look forward to how Edge will be innovated in the future. Pros There have been some great upgrades to Edge. My favorite which I can't live without is the left-side icons that open a window without leaving your main site page. I can continue to work and watch videos while checking my email, using the new AI features and web searching. It's a great multi-tasking feature. I'm also building my collections and using the split-screen feature a great deal. Edge has come a long way, and with every new upgrade, the features keep improving. I've set Edge as my default browser on ALL of my devices and everything is always synced perfectly. Cons The only negative was trying to import my bookmarks to Safari on my iPhone. It didn't work very well and the bookmarks got all mixed up. I solved the issue by downloading the Edge app for iPhone. Now my browser setup is perfectly synced across my devices and works great. However, Microsoft has consistently and continually improved the browser over the years, and it is capable of rivaling Chrome or Firefox in its current incarnation. Pros A lot of the productivity features that Microsoft keeps adding to the browser really help to set it apart from some of the more reputable browsers available. For one thing, the collections feature is very useful if you are in need of a way to save sites for research purposes. Also, the reader view button helps to make a page that would otherwise be convoluted become easier to read and skim for information. Cons There are some services that Microsoft Edge still does not seem to be compatible with. For instance, when using mTurk, many of the offerings that are available insist on using Google Chrome browser, and simply will not work with Edge. These are relatively rare though, and not common enough to turn me off of the browser. June 4, 2022 5.0 overall, Edge has proven to be very solid and reliable as a browser, when Chrome was having problems and after trying many other browsers and enjoying them too, like Firefox of course, Pale Moon, UR, and Opera, Edge still ends up being the one I perhaps most commonly fall back on as the standard, just since the design is more like Chrome and the settings transfer somewhat. Pros Edge is set up to be able to import most settings from Chrome, and it also looks pretty similar. I've ended up using the vertical tabs more than horizontal, so I like that about it too. Also when I get bookmarks and extensions, it offers me to add from chrome to edge. Cons I just have issues in general sometimes with Microsoft because of how they tend to strongarm/force clients to use them- I remember for ages I was stuck unable to sign in properly because of some autofill function it was stuck on and wouldn't let me override manually, so I couldn't switch logins. That was so annoying and messy that I just entirely avoided using Outlook, Hotmail, or the Microsoft Store for a very long time. This is a great feature for enterprise use. Ability to use extensions in private mode, I could never do this with google chrome. Web capture is something that I use almost every day and this built in feature lets you take screenshots quickly without relying on extensions or other software. Smart screen security. This is a great built-in feature that warns you about suspicious websites. Additionally, when you try to download any types of executable files from website and the smart screen feature analyses the download and it will immediately terminate the download if found to be from malicious in nature. Read aloud s the coolest feature on Microsoft edge. It can read aloud any web pages and even pdf files and you can choose the accent of your choice to listen. Password manager is much advanced than Google Chrome, Microsoft edge can suggest you stronger passwords and seamlessly store and sync them This way you don't have to use another password manager software.
