### "Ubuntu - Easy to use"

July 24, 2025

5.0

I use Ubuntu both headless for servers (Virtualized) and occasionally with the GUI. It's very easy to understand and the Command Line Interface was not hard to adopt for someone with Windows CLI (CMD) or Powershell experience.

Pros

It's free open source software, and it's a heavy standard used everywhere (in my opinion). The Apt-get interface via Command Line is very easy to install, update, and remove software and you can quickly spin up a server running any number of open source services. Running it headless or with GUI, you also get crazy speed and perfomance vs all the overhead required by Windows.

Cons

A bit to learn CLI-wise coming from Windows, but not bad at all. I would say things 20 years ago were a lot more intimidating in Linux, but things work so well with plug and play drivers and driver unification that it really is pretty easy to get into using Ubuntu as either your GUI-based OS or for your servers.

### "Ubuntu is the best linux distro for non Linux users."

November 14, 2025

5.0

The best is that it's free! the way on how the OS works , the interface the updates, the level of personalization is lol another level, i have been able to solve and find the purpose of what I was looking for, I ran Ubuntu on a lot of machines and was suprized on ho well it worked.

Pros

Linux for human beings is their motto, and yes, it is very true, Ubuntu (African word that means unity btw) was muy first aproach to go out of my comfort zone (windows xp) to venture on other platforms and I love it, still use it as a side OS and on certian time it was my main OS, actually looking forward to install it on my new laptop.

Cons

I honestly do not have any negative feedback to give. Thanks to the community, it has been a great experience and learning curve.

Free, because it's free and more personalizable, no viruses, no risk, a more technical tool to work with, meaning more responsibility.

### "I've used it daily for 6 years"

May 13, 2022

3.0

Ubuntu has served be well over the years. It has little/no bloat and runs well even on an old entry level computer. However, it is difficult to collaborate on teams where most of the other members use proprietary software that is only supported on other operating systems.

Pros

It's free. It's light weight. Low demand on memory, storage and processor. If you have an old computer lying around this will bring it back to life. It's great for web development because most of the tools and software is easy to install or comes preinstalled It's super stable/doesn't crash. This used to be a problem for earlier versions but it has become arguably one of the most stable OSs around

Cons

Big learning curve for new users. Incompatible with popular proprietary software. You won't be able to use many of your favorite premium programs such as photo editors, movie and animation editors and office spreadsheet and document editors The supported software that is available often lags behind other operating systems. Driver incompatibility. Unless you have an explicitly manufacturer supported device you are likely to run into driver issues. For me it was a sound card that had to be manually connected every time I booted the computer (probably fixable but I couldn't find the fix)

Reason for choosing Ubuntu

2 main reasons. It's perfect for web development, and It's very light weight and performant.

### "The best and lightest OS"

December 10, 2024

I've been using Ubuntu as the main software for virtual machines and deployments, but also for my main device.

Pros

It offers a robust package management system and a large software repository, allowing easy installation and updates. As an open-source platform, it is free to use and highly customizable.

Cons

It may have compatibility issues with some proprietary software and hardware drivers. Additionally, transitioning from other operating systems like Windows can involve a learning curve for those unfamiliar with Linux environments.

### "Long time Ubuntu user. Very Happy."

August 10, 2023

Quite positive. Been using various versions of ubuntu for work and personal use for years.

Pros

It's stable, easy to use, and can bring an old machine back to life! Also really easy to get friends to switch to Linux once they see Ubuntu.

Cons

Sometimes the applications in the repo are outdated. Snaps helps some, but not always.

### "Enterprise grade Linux OS for servers and personal computers"

August 20, 2021

5.0

With Ubuntu, we are able to run reliable, affordable, and secure web servers that are both feature-rich and highly available.

Pros

The best part about Ubuntu is that it is a free and open-source Linux operating system that runs well on all major hardware platforms. Every LTS version is released in 2 years with 5 years of support making it a more reliable and feature-rich OS. For developers, Ubuntu is a fully customizable OS that can be used as a secure web server. Its Kernal can be updated without a reboot making it highly available and secure.

Cons

The GUI of Ubuntu is not as elegant as OSx or Windows. Not a user-friendly operating system for personal computers. Some hardware may not be supported without paid drivers.

Alternatives considered

### "The best operating system I've tried!"

October 30, 2022

5.0

I started using Ubuntu 2004 and have not stopped since! I use it for my webdev business as well as on my personal and family computers. I don't use any other operating system on my computers. I can't recommend Ubuntu enough! :)

Pros

Ubuntu/Linux is very stable. It has had very predictable 2 per year releases since 2004 and has 5 years of support for every second years release. It's very easy to use. It's mostly free open source software.

Cons

Some very specific kind of software does not exist or is not as advanced but then you can use a virtual machine with another operating system to run any application.

### "Ubuntu "

November 26, 2023

As a recent Cyber Security Graduate, I use Ubuntu everyday. Its essential to combating Cyber Terrorism and identifying threat attackers and network vulnerabilities.

Pros

The Kal Linux Os is a vital tool for network security, identifying threat attacker's, and keeping netwoks and data safe. Ubuntu is a perfect all around kali distro for anybody in Cyber Security industry.

Cons

In my opinion there is no cons with using Ubuntu OS. Its amazing open source OS gives us the freedom to use tools that Windows 10/11 restricts use from using.

Pros

\+ huge community, which means it's easy to find help online. + stable + Gnome supports fractional scaling by default, which is handy if you have a HiDPI monitor

Cons

\+ I had some issues with qemu/kvm virtualization where windows guests are super slow. But it worked perfectly in Manjaro (arch-based linux) + Desktop is not customizable enough.

### "Ubuntu is one of the easiest and most robust distributions of linux."

January 13, 2022

I've been using linux since 90s and Ubuntu for more than a decade.

Pros

Suitable for servers, desktops and laptops. I like that it installs in minutes, is infinitely customizable, rock-solid stable.

Cons

Apple users are a little wary of anything 'different' and it's still seen as an edge-case, even though it's usually easier to use and more stable than Apple & Microsoft options.

Reason for choosing Ubuntu

It's most popular/known/predictable/stable.

### "The First Linux Desktop Environment I Ever Used"

August 5, 2022

4.0

Ubuntu is a powerhouse, it can do so many tasks if you take the time to learn. It's improved my productivity and technical knowledge a lot and I recommend more people learn to use it.

Pros

Ubuntu is great, I was a beginner to Linux several years ago, and it makes the transitioning period very easy, anything which you could do on it's biggest competitor, you can do on Ubuntu. I think Ubuntu has way more features than it's competitor, which is what I love about it best.

Cons

There is a learning curve, although they make it as easy as they can, you must be willing to put in the time to learn.

### "One of the best and more stable Linux platforms"

November 29, 2022

5.0

I have been using Ubuntu since 2012. It gets better and better. Totally recommended as your main Linux operating system for data servers and developers.

Pros

I believe Ubuntu is the more stable, flexible, and secure Linux platform out there. It has a strong team of developers that keeps Ubuntu updated, with the latest security trends and emerging technologies.

Cons

There are certain compatibility issues with third parties' scripts, however, Ubuntu team tackles any issue really fast.

### "Great desktop OS"

August 28, 2021

5.0

I have really enjoyed my use Ubuntu and regularly recommend it to others for their systems as a full replacement to windows.

Pros

We have installed and deployed the Ubuntu OS on several of our computers fro email and file server purposes as well as for general office desktop use. The computers we have are older since we try to keep more money available to the residents, and Ubuntu has allowed us to use these older computers much more effectively and extend the useful life as system resources do not get bogged down as they would with a windows system.

Cons

I haven't found anything that I don't really like about the system. We have been able to run pretty much any software we need and in many cases some things are much more easily accomplished vs on a windows machine.

### "Ubuntu for a World of Freedom"

December 25, 2022

5.0

Although it takes time to learn and get used to, it is excellent that we provide maximum security in all our processes and that we can manage the entire system from a single point. There is nothing superfluous and nothing much. Moreover, you do not deal with license fees in all processes.

Pros

Can freedom and security coexist? Yes for everyone. Ubuntu, which has a free software understanding, provided maximum security support for all of us in all integrated business processes. It is one of the largest software, thanks to its structure that can be applied to every platform, its adaptable and buildable structure with various data structures. All of your transactions are yours, thanks to open source restrictions, the ability to work without licensing fees, the ability to integrate, adapt and change the entire existing system.Minimum resources and maximum performance. A unique structure thanks to the user interface module.

Cons

Even if there are some problems with the drivers, you can solve the problem in a short time.

Reason for choosing Ubuntu

For maximum security in all my processes and system management.

### "One of my favourite OS"

September 24, 2022

5.0

Pros

Ubuntu is the best operating system out there. I know lots of people say Microsoft and Mac are better, but they're wrong. Ubuntu is always up-to-date and has some really cool features to make my life easier. In fact, I just set it up on my friend's computer last week and she's been totally happy with it ever since.

Cons

Normal windows or mac user can't cop up with it and may get depressed. It has some commands needed to be remembered. So it's a bit tough if you are newbie.
