### "Ubuntu: The Efficient Free OS"

September 18, 2023

5.0

In general, Ubuntu has been a great experience and I definitely recommend it. There are many things you can do even in Dual-Boot on pair with Windows, for example.Ubuntu can be tough for beginner users, but the necessary steps for improving on its usage open up possibilities for things that can be used on other OSes such as Windows' Command Line (Terminal, in Ubuntu), they do differ between operating systems but the general principles apply and can be adapted from one CLI to another.Overall, Ubuntu is a great operating system and definitely a fantastic Free alternative. I do recommend it.

Pros

Efficient, free, fast, and advanced. The Terminal approach can be very useful for intermediate and advanced users. There are things and an UI that can help novice users with the interaction.Compatibility layers are generally very good with other operating systems such as Windows.Great for Developers and Servers.

Cons

Can be hard for beginner users.GRUB in dual-boot can be a bit problematic sometimes, for example in the case of removing Linux and only using the other OS. For beginners this might be heavily problematic if they don't know how to use Command-Line Interfaces.Although highly compatible through layers such as Wine or Proton (Steam), there are things that may not work 100% as expected. This could be improved.

### "Ubuntu Linux: A Time-tested Stable Linux Distribution for Multipurpose Applications"

July 29, 2023

5.0

Very stable Linux distribution with a large user base. The system is frequently updated and provides a Linux environment that can be utilized for every day tasks as well as for large-scale development projects.

Pros

Ubuntu is one of the most successful Linux distributions for multipurpose applications. I used Ubuntu as a desktop environment due to its facilitated and user-friendly Gnome desktop. The system is loaded with tons of open source productivity suites. I developed penetration testing Ubuntu systems in virtualized controlled network environments using VMware VSphere. Many of my research project simulations and real-world implementations are deployed on Ubuntu operating systems. I used Ubuntu for security programming using low-level C/C++/Assembly Cryptographic APIs using the gcc and g++ compilers. Last but not least, Ubuntu is an ideal platform for Linux BASH shell scripting for automating everyday Linux configuration tasks.

Cons

The system updates are so frequent and distracting. This resembles an advantage and a disadvantage. The developer needs to keep up-to-date while maintaining backward compatibility with earlier software versions. This process may be sometimes tricky depending on the tool/application api employed.

### "The "all you can eat" for Linux Distros"

September 19, 2021

5.0

Thanks to all the people behind Ubuntu and Its community, I can for sure say that Using Ubuntu led me to this world of Linux and I could not be more pleased with that. Today we use it in our company for Users that need to use something reliable and tons of support.

Pros

Sincerely, talking about Ubuntu has become almost as talk as the Linux System itself, it's the most complete Debian based distro, and support from developers and the community is outstanding, you can use it for starting the Linux world or for complex computational calculations (software developers often thinks in ubuntu support).

Cons

It can be a little overwhelming work with Linux at first, but this happens with anyone that is new to this world. But Ubuntu almost doesn't have any flaws and can make the transition a little more appealing.

### "Great and robust operating system, both for work and for fun. Supported by a strong community"

May 27, 2022

5.0

My first contact with Linux was around the year 2000 with a different distribution, at that time there was no Ubuntu. I started using it since mid-2008. Since then I have used other distributions, but for security and guarantee that I won't stop for a few days due to lack of update or a bad update I always return to it. I use it in my daily life, both for work and for entertainment.

Pros

Ubuntu has several programs that end up making my life a lot easier as a software developer, even languages established for using other operating systems, such as C#, are now easily accessible, which makes it very easy to change projects. I love free and open systems and, despite Ubuntu not being the system most aligned with this philosophy, it brings several facilities that end up compensating for its use.

Cons

Even today, despite being incredibly simpler to use, we ended up having to understand a little more about the environment to keep it 100% operational and constantly updated. That's what made me point out that its cost is not so cheap because it takes a little time during the month to keep it. But this is common for any operational system.

### "Ubuntu - a solid distro "

April 30, 2022

5.0

I've been using the Mate version of Ubuntu as my primary desktop for years and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I don't prefer it to Windows or Mac because it's free, I prefer it because the user experience is so much better.

Pros

Ubuntu has just about every application I use in it's repo... and I use a LOT of applications from music arranging, 3-D modeling and printing, software development, and more. The few applications I needed that were not in the repo were easily to find and install via PPA. Ubuntu has an active support community for every level of user. Distro version upgrades are smooth and effortless.

Cons

Nothing is wrong with snaps, but I don't why why Ubuntu should "muddy the waters" by having 2 different kinds of applications managers: both apt-get (or apt) and snap. I'd like to see the distro stick to apt.

Reason for choosing Ubuntu

I got sick to death of Windows constant updates and reboots, and with every update, Windows overriding my preference settings. Ubuntu is faster than Windows on any given hardware, and more secure. Ubuntu's package manager keeps all of the installed software up to date - unlike Windows software that has to be updated one by one. You can spend thousands of dollars on Windows and Windows software and still not have half of the system you can have with Ubuntu... for free!

### "UBUNTU is the best OS, but, there's a catch.."

August 6, 2021

5.0

Pros

Free, fast, dependable, stable and tough. All you need in an OS. It re-compiles every time you launch it to detect if there has been any modifications on your hardware then adapts itself to what you got. I was even able to install the 21.04 version on an old laptop with only 2GB of RAM and it's working like magic. Safe from intrusion and viruses, comes loaded with almost all the software you may need, like the OPEN OFFICE, a lot of other applications. This is the best OS I have ever used so far.

Cons

A lot of devices do not have drivers for UBUNTU and you have to use generic drivers so you lose the edge or the special features you were so eager to try. Also, if you are in a Windows environment at work, you will suffer because of the files formats you have to juggle, not to mention that you will not find the same applications that work on both platforms, even though WINE promises otherwise.

### "Ubuntu, the best OS"

February 11, 2022

5.0

Ubuntu is a computer operating system primarily used for coding and web development. I personally use Ubuntu for WordPress web development. I also use it to shop online.

Pros

I use Ubuntu on a daily basis. The main reason for this is that Ubuntu is much faster than Windows. I typically work on WordPress, and I've tried it on both Windows and Ubuntu, and I've found that working on Ubuntu is much faster and more efficient. Also, I use Ubuntu when I want to shop online or make a credit card purchase for one reason: Ubuntu is very secure, so you won't have to worry about being hacked or having someone steal your credentials. Furthermore, Ubuntu is a free and open-source operating system.

Cons

There are a few disadvantages to using Ubuntu that I find extremely disappointing. Because many of the applications on which I rely do not work on Ubuntu, I am unable to fully transition from Windows to Ubuntu. The second annoyance is that the wifi driver stops working when I shut down my PC from Windows and then restart it and log in to Ubuntu. I tried numerous times to solve this problem, but I was unable to find a solution.

### "The better OS - for some purposes"

April 29, 2022

5.0

Ubuntu is keeping older machines humming productively.

Pros

Ubuntu needs less memory. You can install it and use it without payment. It is open source so security flaws are acknowledged promptly, and support communities tend to be honest, and stonewall less than Microsoft. Usually security issues are solved way faster than with Windows. Updates are way faster than Windows. Ubuntu is more stable than Windows, with fewer hangs or crashes and less need to reboot.

Cons

Some hardware devices are not supported, or supported less well, than with Windows.

Reason for choosing Ubuntu

More popular and more like Windows UI

### "For the new gens who hate unnecessary background hassles!"

April 28, 2022

5.0

I was thrilled to use Ubuntu for the first time. At the very beginning, it was very weird for me to learn theory of terminal commands before actually seeing the OS in my hands. But when I actually tried my hands on it, I realised that commands are not compulsory, GUI itself is sufficient to handle our usage. I wanted a file system which has radically faster speed on copy and writing files and folder even on a 3.0 HDD, and Ubuntu impressed me over MS Windows. So, I loved this OS.

Pros

I have always been a "perfection" finding person. I wanted all cloud storage at one place. I always look for central integration. A easy software library where I can install the software directly from store. Google drive can be linked to the local storage like a directory, this is the most beautiful feature in Ubuntu. One unique feature is that you can also set keyboard shortcuts using windows function key ans use in Linux based Ubuntu. I just love the speed of booting up.

Cons

There are no cons as of now regarding the quality of software, but I personally feel that we need more themes to decorate the desktop. And biggest issue is file shortcut, unlike other OS, we cannot send files shortcut to desktop. So they need to roll out this feature sooner.

Reason for choosing Ubuntu

Ubuntu is a free to use software, open-source and no license needed. This is what most us look for! Free and simple yet productive.

### "Ubuntu ¿El mejor linux?"

October 31, 2022

4.0

### "Versatile tool for IT people"

May 11, 2023

5.0

If you are beginner and want to start with Linux, this is the distribution I would recommend.

Pros

Ubuntu offers a versatile and customizable user experience and I consider it one of the best free Linux distributions. Though it might cost some time to learn to use this operating system, it is still easier to learn than other free linux distributions like Debian or Gentoo (also due to the large community and good documentation). There is a lot of Ubuntu variantions - like Edubuntu (specialized for education purposes) or Xubuntu (better optimized environment).

Cons

Compared to other operating systems like MacOS or Windows, Ubuntu may require more time to setup and configure. Users that are not familiar with IT environment might become overwhelmed in case they run into an issue that requires advanced installation - like using a terminal. Additionally, this operation system is not an ideal choice for gaming.

### "Ubuntu Linux: A Linux Platform that is Evolving Constantly"

August 2, 2023

4.0

A great alternative for Windows or Mac for productivity everyday use. Development is very facilitated using high-level and low-level programming environments. Great experience even with server platforms.

Pros

I like the user-friendliness of the Ubuntu desktop environment. Makes it a very popular alternative of Windows that is almost free. Frequent system updates demonstrates the agility of the Ubuntu community and keeps the system loaded with collaborative and productivity applications. I used Ubuntu for Java and Python development that are coupled with low-level C interfacing. All the tools needed for development are free and easy to deploy and install graphically from the system menu. Moreover, I implemented a Web and Database server software on top of it in a medium-sized enterprise. The performance was second to none.

Cons

Still many improvements can be made to the Desktop environment to make it more attractive and user-friendly. Mounting USB devices can be handled better especially in virtualized environments such as on VirtualBox and VMware fusion.

### "Ubuntu and its derivatives are my go to amongst all the Linux distributions out there"

November 20, 2021

5.0

As a server OS, Ubuntu has been so reliable and I have a lot of confidence in it and want to continue using it this way for a long long time.

Pros

I use Ubuntu to run my servers with a Node.JS and MongoDB stack. I use Linux Mint (which is based on Ubuntu) as a desktop and development environment. As a server I am very happy with Ubuntu, it was easy to install and secure, it supports all the software I need to run my applications and it is performant and very reliable. I especially like the unattended upgrades which keeps the software updated and secure without my intervention or initiation.

Cons

As a desktop environment I prefer Linux Mint - basically because it comes with XFCE out of the box and it has some beautiful aesthetics. Ubuntu as a desktop is perfectly functional as well, I just prefer Linux Mint. To use XFCE on Ubuntu can be a bit fiddley, but you could always just get Xubuntu.
