October 12, 2022 5.0 If you're creating simple documents, or even media-loaded ebooks on a Mac, Pages is really powerful software considering it's free. It even streamlines uploading ebooks directly to the Apple Bookstore. And for not being professional software, it's giving Affinity and Adobe a run for their money. Pros If you use a Mac, the tight integration with the OS is a dream. We also enjoy the rich Ebook export features. We just finished a digital press kit for a client with embedded photo carousels and music and found that recipients of the ebook version were more likely to respond because of the experience. And putting that experience together was much easier than professional software from Affinity or Adobe. Cons Well, Pages isn't professional software and lacks advanced integrations (like Adobe Bridge) with all your connected brand resources. Calling the photo picker loads the local Photos library. Music picker loads the local music library, etc. I haven't used the software with MacOS Server, so I don't know if that changes things. Review Source Gary H. While it lacks some of the flexibility competitors like Google Docs and MS Word have, it is extremely convenient, easy to use, and readily available on all of our Apple products. Pros I like the fact that Pages is already built into all of my Apple products and is available for free. Aside from that, I really like how many customizable templates are available in Pages. Our team regularly uses these templates as the starting point for many of our document projects. Cons If I had to nitpick and pick the things I least like about Pages it would be its overall lack of features and basic sharing/collaboration tools. Since pages is free, its suite of tools and features is a bit limited compared to some of its competitors like MS Word and Google Docs. I do feel that Google Docs offers a better real-time collaboration experience overall. Pros It is simple. It is quick. It is reliable. It is easy to access. Pages is a useful tool for quickly creating and editing documents. You can easily write a letter, design a document, and share it with your iPad to continue working on it later.It grew in its functionalities and is getting better and better with years. Cons It is still missing some functionalities or those features are limited in comparison with MS Office, the tool Apple claims to be the successor to with iWork Suite. Sometimes Pages crashes due to iCloud syncing problems, I suppose. To embed fonts is not possible or fonts used on Mac are missing then on iPad when one wants to continue ones work there. Sadly. It's a perfect word processor and I really urge anyone who's overpaying for word to check it out. Of course, if you don't have an Apple machine, you'll have to use a browser version, but with some experience there, I'd say that's serviceable as well. Pros Honestly, I love Pages. Obviously, market share goes to Microsoft Word, but I started using Pages when it went free when I was in University and I never went back. I use it any time I'm writing something for personal reasons, and I don't see why I'd ever change. It's completely free and has any feature you'd want. Pages has a nice clean interface, great support for inserting and manipulating media items, and is generally just nicer to use than other products. Pros The main selling point of Pages is that it is free for Apple users and is available on all Apple platforms (Mac, iOS and iPadOS). Being a free piece of software, Pages is quite capable, with multiple formatting options and good media integration. In addition, for iCloud users, Pages seamlessly syncs with iCloud Drive and allows for multiple people to collaborate on a single document. In addition, Pages has a clean and easy to use interface, and its feature set is comparable across all platforms. Cons There are two major downsides to Pages - it is Apple only and lacks many of the more powerful features of competing word processors (such as Microsoft Word). While there is a web based version that can be accessed from any platform, it isn't a great experience (especially when compared to Google Docs). For most users that need a free cross-platform alternative to Word, OpenOffice and LibreOffice offers a good alternative; though at this point many people choose to go with Google Docs out of sheer convenience. In addition, for collaboration purposes, Pages is really only useful if both people use Macs. It does not reach the pro levels of a layout app such as Adobe's InDesign, but for my purposes those are mostly overkill and as I have a Mac and Pages comes free with the OS, it's not a difficult choice. Pros If you want to make a fancy looking PDF report or newsletter Pages does a way better job than MS Word. Especially when it comes to graphics, text and photos in multiple layers. Things just go where you put them and then stay there and its fantastically easy to use. Cons I have not really tried the collaborative features, mainly because most colleges and clients use MS Word, where these features are definitely robust (when writing a document that contains mainly text and needs input from others, I thus use MS Word more). Part of this issue is that Pages is only meaningfully available within Apple's walled garden (although you can use the online version at iCloud.com for free) so, collaboration will not work across many desks. February 18, 2022 5.0 I use Pages for routine correspondence, creating legal briefs, writing reports and formalising research from my note taking application. Additionally, I use Pages to open Word documents sent to me by other lawyers and I have never experienced any issue in terms of formatting. Pros I work as a Lawyer and was initially very hesitant to use Pages, I had no reason to be cautious! Pages has a different menu layout and doesn't seem to copy over anything from Microsoft Word. Having said that, it's very user intuitive and I found myself accessing complex features easily and quickly. I feel confident in my writing reports all day, creating and saving templates, inserting media if required and everything else a solid word processor needs. Finally, because it's Apple, the application runs quickly and seamlessly. This isn't to mention the benefits from using Apple products and services as far as the ecosystem is concerned. Cons I originally thought the lack of features would prohibit me from properly using Pages. The reality is all the necessary functionality is there with few exceptions.
