Pros It was relatively easy to use with good tutorials and resources for novice users. The information retrieved was easy to read and understand.It can build several lists and reports quickly. Cons It requires specific details about a donor to retrieve any financial information. If you cannot provide specific details, it will retrieve minimal information. I use this tool for ad-hoc information searches." May 14, 2018 3.0 Pros 360 Search ZoomInfo. Great for bio search. Would be better if we were still able to pull the cached pages. Ability to search by address to confirm RE ownership Donations area: ease of exporting and modifying Have not used alert functionality Cons Everytime I do a 360 search I have to do it twice. Maybe I work too fast, but the initial search never finds my individual. I'd like to see a date on each source indicating the last time it was loaded into the iWave environment. Particularly D&B Not useful: RelSci - not possible to fully utilize To and From Insider Filings - no aggregate data. I typically navigate to the Form 4 to get a sense of most recent holdings. I would like to the search within function currently available only on some sources and at some levels to be available at all levels and fields. This shows in iWave as a filter option. See Donations summary screen to view. PROfiles. I attempted a small batch screening for a independent client using PROScreen. It was easy and worked well. I did have a problem utilizing PROfiles. It was clunky using validated the data and I eventually reverted to my only way of doing things. PROfile output: Lack of customization. No area for photo or biography. I would like to be able to brand this output with my institution's shield, etc. Review Source Jo T. The improvements I've seen over the years, including profiles, alerts, and now the new Connections feature are simply amazing. I've always been impressed by iWave, and I'll continue to recommend it to anyone who asks. Cons I wish there were more filtering functions, particularly in the real estate tab. I often want to search for someone who owns a property in one state, but lives in another (for example, Minnesota snowbirds who have homes in Florida). I can filter on the property state, but not the owner state. Any questions or issues that come up, I know I can go to the website and search for a solution or touch base with my Sales Rep or Service Team to troubleshoot solutions. Pros I went through demos for several donor and wealth screening software systems, and iWave's features and usability were above and beyond competitors in the field. The user interface is simple and intuitive and provides me with a great overview of screening projects and profiles. The ability to dive deep and look into sources of data allows me to start the more in-depth research parts of my job. Cons We initially had a API linkup issue, but we were able to solve this with our IT department and iWave's tech team. I honestly haven't experienced many issues with iWave! Pros iWave contains all the major databases on one easy to navigate platform. I especially appreciate the ability to bounce between foundation, individual, and corporate searches. The developers are consistently improving the product, adding new powerful features. The user support is top notch and always available, plus they have a catalog of webinars showing you how to use the platform in ever powerful ways. Cons There is nothing I don't like about this software. I feel like we've been benefiting from it ever since acquiring, and we still haven't tapped into its full potential. And one of the best values around. Pros The amount of data categories available is very good for the cost, the search functionality is clean, and you can see a lot of info at once, very quickly. Cons Sometimes the search gets wonky when you're searching a lot of people in a row. Also would be nice to have integrated news alerts. Pros The platform has a diverse set of databases to query and retrieve information. They give the user the freedom to dive deeper in a particular part of their platform or go with the combined results. Their giving database is top notch and helpful. Cons Their alerts are getting better, but could be better. Also, their API is geared only to their screening service and could be much more useful if it was opened up to each database so we can retrieve results via the API. If I have an issue, I get a prompt, human response. It doesn't hurt that at my annual conference, they throw the best, most imaginative parties :) Pros I love that I can do multiple searches with just one input, so it really gives me a snapshot of the person I'm looking for. I really like that they include screenings in with the subscription, which for our purposes is all we need. I like that I can do separate searches in specific databases if I need to. Cons When searching for somebody with a common name, the results tend to come back with any name that starts with those same 2-3 letters, so "Mary Miller" will also pull Margaret and Margie and Marjorie and Martha, and there's no way to limit to just the Marys. Pros iWave provides a plethora of features that make conducting prospect research easy and allows me to use my time efficiently. Most importantly, iWave is up-to-date with their information and they are always rolling out new features. Cons One feature I would like to see created is a feature that allows you to remove foundations from search results that do not accept unsolicited grant applications/LOI's. Foundation Directory Online has such a feature so I often find myself having to use it to "weed out" foundations from my search results when I need to find ones that accept unsolicited grant applications/LOI's. Reason for choosing iWave Originally I chose iWave because it provides information on donors in Canada but after realizing what it does for donors in the United States, it has become my go-to software. May 10, 2018 5.0 We use it a THE starting place when we are given a prospect name about which very little is known. This product is extremely helpful in finding employment, property, stock, etc. which out manual internet searches. Pros Ease of use and depth of information. Not only are you able to look up a property record, you are also able to see the property history. Many of the sections allow you see the source. Also really like the 360 degree search feature as a starting place. Very helpful. Cons I can not think of anything I don't like about this product. Perhaps one con would be that the records are not updated from the iWave sources as frequently as I would like, however, that is true for most prospect research products. Review Source ET Eva T. I have experience with other similar products and have found iWave to be the most user-friendly. This allows a wide variety of development team members to use the product to their advantage, even if they have not had a great deal of experience with prospect research tools. Pros I appreciate the product's user friendly design. I have not personally used iWave for bulk screenings (although another user within our company has), but I find it very easy to find and understand information on individual and institutional prospects that is helpful to my fundraising success. Cons In the past, I found the feature that creates individual profiles to be cumbersome and lacking in flexibility, which prevents a customized profile to be generated. January 27, 2022 4.0 Overall, it's an indispensable tool in my work. The fact that I can click on a .pdf of the source it's pulling someone's giving information from is great. Pros I love the 360 search. iWave is my go-to for donation information and foundation 990s. Cons 1\. Search terms are way too loose. If I search for "Richard" I get "Rick" and "Dick" and "Rich," which is fine, but I also get "Eric," "Erich," and "Erica," which is not. Unless there's a way to set the search to exact matches only, this is a huge headache for me. 2. Batch wealth screening is a nice tool, but the results can be really unreliable, so much so that if someone screens high through iWave, I need to verify that result with another tool. If I could just trust iWave's capacity rating to be accurate (or as accurate as these things can be), it'd save so much time. November 27, 2023 4.0 Great tool. Not as easy to use as I'd hoped in terms of researching a donor and creating a profile. Still very time consuming, especially if you need to search different variations on the name. Pros The screening feature is excellent and the system will create profiles for the records you select. Cons Takes a long time to sort through the records and decide which to add to a profile. Would love to see better contact info and updates. contribution data still seems incomplete. Accurate data, easy to use and verify. Pros iWave is my go-to tool for all things prospect research. It quickly and easily shows me all the information about a prospect and I'm easily able to click through for more details. I love the philanthropic giving section because iWave attaches PDFs so I can confirm if the data is correct. It saves me so much time! Cons I'd love to be able to filter more of the results based on city or name. When using the Company lookup feature, when the list of employees is very long, you have to click and click to get to go through the alphabetical listing of employees to find the one you are looking for. The library of resources and videos is easy to navigate for quick answers, and the actual product is great. It is the one tool I don't want to live without as a researcher for a major gifts team at a non-profit. Pros This software was easy to get acquainted with and begin using right away. Its suite of other search tools combined into one tool simplify the research process and minimize wasted time. Cons The prospecting tool is great, but could be optimized. Reason for choosing iWave It is simply a better product. iWave has continued to stay on top of its industry and is proactive about enhancements and improvements. Plus, it includes all of this and still provides real-person customer service whenever needed for no extra cost. Pros IWave, overall, is still a well priced all in one solution that gives access to many searchable databases across the data points needed to evaluate a philanthropic prospect. The customizability of its scoring (assuming we know what we are doing and why) is also a great help. Cons However, I preferred the older version, I found that it was much better at searching the subtle details properly. The new version frequently misses pieces of real estate due to less flexible search parameters, doesn't fully capture many SEC events, misinterprets stock options and similar issues and has spotty historical data. It's great that you can create donor profiles and choose which pieces of information match your donor. Cons I wouldn't mind having a more precise way to look at obituaries or to have a way to upload a list and see if the names match any obituaries. I wish there could be an option to expand the number of hits one gets from RelSci data source. It would be useful to be able to look at historical addresses. I use it in conjunction with several other research databases to be able to provide a well-rounded view of our prospects. iWave is easy to use and provides information from many sources and I find it to be invaluable in my day to day work Pros I love the real estate feature that allows you to look at the individual transactions for each property. It allows lists additional properties that person may own so that you can further your research. Cons I have not found the political giving module to be very helpful, as I am always able to find more political giving using other resources. Information about employment, corporate affiliation and corporate value, home ownership, and philanthropy are all very useful to me. As is the contact information. Cons I really miss the easier form for searching for individuals, particularly a)the ability to enter an address rather than just the city and town, which made it easier to find property held by an LLC registered to the address rather than in an individual's name; and b) the ability to enter the search information without having to use a pull-down menu--that was simply, manually, easier. The format based on source and comprehensiveness of the data have been important to us in building a better picture of our constituents Pros Data is fairly comprehensive and easy to export. Working with the data is easier than with other vendors. It was also great that we were able to remove FEC data. While there are some instances where data isn't perfect, it's a great place to start vetting information. Pros I appreciate that it aggregates various information data sets in a single research database. It is intuitive and user friendly so the ease of use is perfect. Being able to search and then access annual reports is an essential part of determining philanthropic inclination and capacity, which is essential to my work. Cons Occasionally I find gift types are improperly labelled in iWave (ex. cumulative gift listings being labelled as annual gifts). As a result, I regularly double check the gift type, so it's great to have direct access to the annual reports, etc. being referenced. It would be great if there was a feature to report these records. Reason for choosing iWave I word in Canada but have worked with organizations that see value in US prospects, giving and property data. They are continually adding more value to the subscription while keeping it in the same price range. Pros The ability to search individual sectors like real estate, foundations, etc. Cons When you leave a crated profile to verify a fact in search, you have to locate the profile you were working on again from the list and open it.
