September 16, 2026 4.0 I have used Joist for over 5 years now and it meets our needs for our HVAC business. It allows for estimates, invoices and payments. Pros Super easy to learn and use. Allows for both estimates and invoices and you can also collect and post payments. Cons When you search a client name and hit back you have to search all over again instead of bringing you back to just that clients invoices. Clients also loved the professional look and the ease of being able to read and understand their estimates clearly! Pros Joist is very user friendly for the value of the money! If you are a small business of any kind, you could definitely benefit from Joist! Cons There was absolutely nothing I didnt like about using joist! It did exactly what I needed. The estimates are clear and very readable which allows everyone involved to understand exactly what is being done and what the charges are. Pros It's very easy to use, infinitely customizable, and reasonably priced. The estimates we produce look professional and are clear to our clients and insurance adjusters alike. Cons Honestly, so far, I have not really seen any negatives about Joist. We are very happy with the product and foresee our company using it exclusively moving forwards. Switched from [Xactimate](https://www.capterra.com/p/214125/Xactimate/) Xactimate locks us in to set pricing and it's very difficult to deviate from the pricing. They started adding things every year that made it better and better. Unfortunately, we had to change to something that would work for our business in project management as that seriously lacked. Pros Value for monday, invoicing, estimate and invoice creation. Easy to use, could make estimates in person. Overall, a great app to use if you are starting out. Cons Very poor on project management, scheduling jobs, no opportunity to ask for Google reviews, didn't ask for a tip. I would recommend it if you are a small company. Pros It is very easy to use. It had almost all what I needed when I was a small company. Growing into a bigger company we needed more, like: calendar, more accounts (so installers will see their schedule) Price is good. Customer support is good too. Cons Not enough options like project managing, customer portal, messaging, no calendar, no integrations with marketing suite. Pros One stop shop for accounting, invoices, estimates, reviews, payments. Great value for the money & your payment come as soon as you request transfer. Cons Software will allow you to setup client profile yet to manage assignments is not there yet. Hopefully in the future there will be an upgrade to the software. Ive tried a TON but Joist Is one of the best out there. If you just need super simple invoicing you cant go wrong with them. Pros Super easy to use and looks professional! Quickly make and send out invoices, no more pushing them off because its a hassle. Quick invoices equal quick payments Cons I dont think that theres is anything that i didnt like! It helped us stay organized and operate efficiently. While we eventually outgrew it and moved to a more advanced system, we still believe Joist is a great option for small to mid-sized contractors looking for a simple and effective invoicing and estimating app. Pros Our company used Joist for a couple of years, and overall, it was a solid tool especially when we were just starting out. Creating and sending estimates and invoices was fast and simple. The app gave our documents a professional look, and the ability to collect digital signatures and payments right through the platform made things really convenient. It definitely helped streamline our day-to-day operations and saved us time in the field. Cons As our company grew, we started to feel limited by Joist. The reporting features were basic and didn’t give us the depth we needed for larger-scale operations. Integration with accounting software was minimal, which meant more manual work. Customer support also wasn’t always responsive when we had technical questions. It’s a great tool for small contractors, but may not scale well for bigger teams or businesses with more complex needs. June 2, 2025 1.0 app works occasionally without a glitch but with business you need to be able to send estimates invoices etc and get paid with this app it's hit or miss . They increase the price while they hold your information hostage and customer support when present is a chat screen that is hit and miss hours or days of AI style support with a serious breakdown in communication like talking to a bot Pros They "offer" many industry style options for estimates invoicing change orders funding financing and payments Cons Joist does not work reliably unavailable access hindering for sometimes days the ability to send billing invoices estimates change orders and get payments and customer support is seriously lacking. They auto debit your account for renewal over 30 days before it is due they rebill you every 11 months for a year subscription. They continue to add to the offerings that have numerous glitches the platform provides while still the fundamental basics still have issues. If you're a contractor looking to streamline your operations, I'd definitely recommend giving Joist a try. Pros The thing I like most about Joist is their user-friendly mobile app. It’s a lifesaver when I'm on job sites. I can pull up client information, create estimates, and even take payments right from my phone. It's made me look much more professional and organized in front of clients. Cons The thing I like least is that some of the more advanced features are locked behind the higher-tier subscriptions. I have to repeat my questions and concern to them several times in different ways before they do, only to reply - "Unfortunately, we do not fill-in-the-blank". Pros That it is available for both desktop and smartphone Cons Too many to list. There is hardly one functionality in this App that makes sense or is intuitive. It's hard to navigate, most of my client can't figure out how to sign, change orders are extremely inflexible, I can't automatically insert my signature - instead I have to go to two different platforms to do so. Cons I'm not happy with the tiered pricing the company has commenced to implement, I am currently a paid joist pro member and have been happy using the app for its functionality, recently the company has introduced a second tier plan (Joist Elite) that bring more features to the app, some features dont really justify the upgrade however this tiered pricing implemented as a as we go along basis and not from app commencment feels a bit unfair for already paid members who feel left out or feel our current membership wont get any new updates. One can say they can keep stacking tier after tier Joist Gold JOIST ultra etc..
