### "Solid email service especially to integrate with Protonmail Bridge"

May 2, 2026

5.0

Really great! I also like that it has in the settings some options for extensions that will increase its capabilities

Pros

My favorite thing about Thunderbird is this it works with Protonmail which is my preferred email service

Cons

I guess I would like it to have some a few more options for color themes though it probably does have some and I just didn't know where to look

### "Reliable, Well-Organized, and Easy to Use Email Client"

April 1, 2026

5.0

The calendar integration works smoothly, and features like filters, folders, and tags make daily email management efficient. Thunderbird is lightweight but still powerful enough for professional use.

Pros

One of Thunderbird’s biggest strengths is how easy it is to handle several email accounts at once. The integrated calendar, contact management, tags, and filter tools make staying organized effortless, even in a busy workday. It performs reliably, respects user privacy, and allows a wide range of personalization through themes and add-ons, which makes it suitable for both personal and professional communication setups.

Cons

The only drawbacks I’ve noticed are that the interface design looks a bit outdated compared to modern email clients, and certain advanced functions require additional add-ons to be installed. Occasionally, updates may change how some extensions work, which can require a bit of time to readjust or reconfigure. Still, these are minor issues compared to the stability and usability Thunderbird offers.

### "Good email client, but could be improved"

May 9, 2025

Overall pleased but I'll like to see it improved

Pros

If the best OSS email clients, it fast and almost without bug

Cons

Sometimes buggy, slow to open large email of big conversation with a lot of destinations, and conversation history is not always good (the thread construction I mean, being able to read send email and received in a unified way as in GMail)

### "Amazing for a free product"

August 23, 2025

5.0

I was using another free email client that would not let me use different ports for incoming and outgoing mail so when searching for another one thunderbird looked great and has been very good so far.

Pros

I suppose I like the combination of its quality and price-point, as I use a free version. It is a lot more robust than other free software

Cons

Some of the styling is a little bit lacking but I need to be fair and say I've not tried to look for settings to change it so maybe it's better to say default styling is poor.

### "Free and easy to use email manager."

January 28, 2026

4.0

In general, my experience has been good, and I like this email manager tool. I never had any kind of trouble.

Pros

I use Thunderbird every day at work with my colleagues. We use it to manage all our work emails in a fully secure environment. Thunderbird is easy to use and offers valuable customer support. I appreciate the calendar integration and all the other features.

Cons

I would like to see a little more friendly interface, with the possibility to change the colours inside the pages, to make them easier to read.

### "Lightweight and powerful."

May 4, 2025

5.0

I have used it for email daily. It offers all the features you might expect from a fairly lightweight email client.

Pros

Free, open, power, highly customizable email client. It outperforms every other email client I have used.

Cons

I have had certain performance issues that I could not explain or fix. These were resolved after I did a clean install of Windows (for other reasons).

### "So much nicer to use than Outlook!"

August 28, 2024

5.0

I probably use less than 20% of what it can do, but that's all I need. Multiple email accounts, smart message handling, a decent filter system, easy spam controls, it all just works. Even when I've had ten or more email addresses to manage for different clients, it's been up to the job and easy to use.

Pros

It's been my go-to desktop email client for twenty years.

Cons

Adding in calendar and task list to compete with Outlook was unnecessary.

### "Complete control over your mails"

August 5, 2021

5.0

Pros

It is completely configurable through add-ons. If you use Firefox, you will find the same environmemt and interface. I have several language thesaurus add-ons, so not to make any typo whatever the language I'm using. It is free!! Also if many mail software are free, having Mozilla foundation behind gives you the security of future developments, and that it will never change to paid mode... It is so easy to move your mails and whatever linked to it, from one workstation to another (i.e. when you change your laptop..)... So to replicate your environment and have consistency of your mails (you need to se up IMAP accounts). It is hence also very easy to have backups of your mails, just in case.

Cons

Nothing really, I'm happy with Thunderbird and don't consider to change it in the future... What I would say, is that maybe I don't use it at its best, for the extensive number of add-ons existing, as I look at them only when I need a certain function.

### ""Mozilla Thunderbird: A Powerful and Customizable Email Client for Managing Your Inbox""

February 23, 2023

5.0

Overall, Mozilla Thunderbird is a popular email client that provides a range of features and customization options. Many users appreciate its security and privacy features, such as encryption, phishing protection, and spam filtering. Additionally, Thunderbird's ability to manage multiple email accounts from different providers, including POP, IMAP, and Exchange, is also well-received by users. However, some users may find Thunderbird's user interface outdated compared to other modern email clients, and it may not integrate well with other services like calendars or task management tools. Thunderbird's lack of real-time syncing and limited storage capabilities may also be a concern for some users.Despite these limitations, many users find Mozilla Thunderbird to be a reliable and efficient email client that meets their needs. Its free and open-source software status and cross-platform support also make it a popular choice for users across different operating systems. Ultimately, whether Thunderbird is the right email client for a particular user depends on their specific needs and preferences.By Ubed Ahmed

Pros

Pros:Free and open-source software: Mozilla Thunderbird is free to download and use, and it is open-source software. This means that users can view and modify the source code, and even contribute to the development of the program.Cross-platform support: Thunderbird is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, so users can use it on almost any computer.Customizable: Thunderbird offers a wide range of add-ons and extensions that allow users to customize the program according to their needs. Users can add features, change the interface, and more.Security and privacy: Thunderbird includes features such as encryption, phishing protection, and spam filtering that enhance users' security and privacy.Multiple account support: Thunderbird can manage multiple email accounts from different providers, including POP, IMAP, and Exchange.

Cons

Cons:No real-time syncing: Thunderbird does not offer real-time syncing between multiple devices, so users need to manually sync their email and data.Limited integration with other services: Thunderbird is primarily an email client and does not integrate well with other services like calendars or task management tools.Outdated user interface: Thunderbird's user interface can feel outdated compared to other modern email clients.Lack of support: Thunderbird is maintained by a small community of developers, so users may not receive prompt support or updates.Storage limitations: Thunderbird's storage capabilities are limited, so users may experience performance issues if they store a large amount of data.

I am thrilled to share my exceptional experience with Thunderbird, As a professional constantly inundated with emails, finding an effective and efficient solution has been a game-changer for me. ### "Best Free Desktop Email Program"

December 8, 2022

5.0

I use it on a daily basis to send dozens of emails. It works very well, & I love the fact that PDF's open within the program

Pros

It's feature rich, open source, & funded by donations. It gets updated very regularly with new features, etc.

Cons

My biggest gripe is the fact that you can't easily switch between signatures. & that to use HTML signatures, you need to save them as a file

### "Free and useful "

August 17, 2022

4.0

I like it. It is smooth and very fast.

Pros

It is working very well. When you add your email address, it sets up everything for you. There are a lot of extensions that you can add functionalities to Thunderbird. As it has a lot of users, it is bugless

Cons

I do not know why they have separated outgoing server settings in another section from the account setting. The search and filter are not very functional, and I could not find my desired result from it. Maybe it is my mistake, So at least it is not user-friendly enough to learn and work with.

### "Good free email management software "

May 5, 2022

4.0

Pros

Thunderbird is totally free as it's developed by Mozilla, so you won't pay any subscription fees. You can manage multiple email inboxes from one interface and open each email in a separate tab within the software interface.

Cons

I think they should develop the right to left (RTL) editing function to be fully compatible with RTL Languages, when I write a message in Arabic I notice that dots at the end of phrases are reversed and moved to the beginning, the Arabic phrases are also messed up when writing English word within them.

### "A great replacement for Outlook"

July 29, 2021

5.0

I made the switch to Thunderbird when my outlook experience became too frustrating with lost emails and sent mail stuck in outbox oblivion. Since switching I've had nothing but great experience with Thunderbird.

Pros

I love that Thunderbird is reliable. Having used Outlook for over a decade, I was a bit hesitant to switch, but am very glad I did. I had numerous problems in the past with outlook which are no longer an issue since I've switched to Thunderbird. Thunderbird works the way I expect it to, and I never lose mail or have items stuck in my outbox. I highly recommend!

Cons

The thing I liked least about Thunderbird initially was the layout and aesthetic, but that quickly disappeared as I became familiar with where everything is located and the icons for everything. Now I would say the layout is very simple and less complicated than Outlook.

### "A Good Old-fashioned Email Application"

August 15, 2021

5.0

Basically it just offers us a really simple, low maintenance, secure system for keeping track of our customer's e-mails.

Pros

The hint to what I like about it is in the title, yes it's been around for a long time but when something works as well as Thunderbird does you don't need to change! From a security point of view I like the fact that it isn't cloud based with all our business customer's personal mails and details stored on some other corporation's servers. It's a breeze to setup new accounts, and their are various extensions that allow you to unleash more power from the application.

Cons

There isn't really anything that I don't like about this software. We have been using for probably 12 years since we opened our business and have never had an issue.

### "Robust email client. "

November 12, 2021

5.0

One of the most well rounded email clients and beats Outlook by a mile and then some!

Pros

Open source, Mozilla-made, feature rich. What's not to like! I used Mozila Thunderbird for a good 7 years before moving to Protonmail. Too many features to love to list. Ability to integrate with Protonmail is a plus as well.

Cons

The fact that this is a local client. Iwas needing cloud access to mails and my webmail was not cutting it. Also, setting up encryption was a bit tedious. Hence, had to move to Protonmail.

### "Great free email client, lacks a slick UI but it's very customizable "

March 3, 2022

4.0

While it's ugly, it's still my go-to email application when I'm not using the web. It has every single feature I want from an email client.

Pros

I like that it's free and open source, and it's incredibly customizable. There's a ton of community extensions that are available to be installed with minimal setup.

Cons

The UI is incredibly outdated. It looks like 20 year old software.

Pros

I think the main thing I can say that I like about Thunderbird is that it is free. That's probably the only positive thing I have to say.

Cons

### "good alternative email client if you do not want to use Microsoft Outlook both paid or free"

August 17, 2021

2.0

Fast, no costs. Good alternative if you want to use a mail client instead of the more intuitive webmail portals.

Pros

its pretty fast in performance. The layout/visual is easy to understand since it is basic email layout (pretty similar as gmail)

Cons

Since it is open source you are bound to support from other users. The opening of tabs is something i personally do not like. Maybe others users are liking it more than i do. Don't like the visual. It has a rather childish menu bar layout in black and white.

### "Simply the best eMail App"

December 10, 2021

5.0

Pros

It is very simple and easy to use free email software. I was unable to install Windows Mail on a Windows 8 laptop so I opted for Thunderbird since then I have never ever urged or thought about going back to Outlook or Mail. Everything is so simple in thunderbird, there are a bunch of addons available. My fav addon Quickfolder which makes thunderbird more visualized and mails easily to find.

Cons

1\. It's not available on iPhone. 2. PST import was bit tricky
