I have developed projects with October CMS and plan to buy more projects (or a full subscription for unlimited) because I have a great workflow using October CMS. I get compliments all the time about my sites that use October CMS and clients are impressed how fast features can be implemented.

Pros

Easy to install and configure, the backend is great from the go and customizable, and even developers who need to learn things along the way will find it useful and pretty useful. I definitely could have been a better developer when I started and using October CMS actually helped me become a better developer which is great.

Cons

Having to pay for premium support is a little steep but they are pretty good about filtering dumb questions without making people pay up front which has saved me for sure.

Pros

it is super flexible and easy to use. It allows me to build new functionalities without prior backend knowledge

Cons

not enough plugins as other cms. The e-commerce part is a bit complicated and maybe some sort of a package would help a lot here.

There is a big problem with coockies. I have error 403 few time a week becouse of that and the problem is that nobody knows how to solve it. Its very strange that you dont want to know about problems like that. How its possible to to make your product better if you dont have a chat support chat. Paiying 100 dollars for every problem which appears will make my bankrupt.

General organization. It fits to growing website

I'm a C/C++/Javascript programmer with a focus on games. Web skills are not my strong suit. OctoberCMS is light enough that it appeals to my sense of speed and aversion to heavyweight waste, and seems to transcend many of the trendy come-and-go fads in technology. That is why I like it.

Pros

Have used OctoberCMS off and on for the past five years. It is lightweight and fairly no-nonsense. That means it's fast, and I'm someone who appreciates a more low-level and efficient approach. I have no problem or regrets paying for the license because IT IS WORTH IT.

Cons

It's a little janky if you want to do something basic like point to a plain old .html file in the directory. Gotta do some fancy footwork for things like that but it is still do-able.

The competition is crusty and ossified, and over decades attempting to make things "easy" for non-technical users the product is slow and actually difficult to use.

I've been writing on OctoberCMS for over 5 years and it's a very enjoyable 5 years. In cases when a client doesn't have the budget to build some deeply customised backend, but needs a simple and understandable, extensible interface for the admin or frontend - OctoberCMS has practically no competitors in this segment.

Pros

Familiar and understandable Laravel structure, availability of a marvellous and extensible admin area. AJAX framework that works on pure JS. Ability to integrate any frontend: Vue.js, React.js, Angual. A good set of inexpensive and even free plugins in the marketplace. Very affordable price.

Cons

It's not a simple question. I can't think of a single situation where the problem was specifically with OctoberCMS and not with my knowledge of PHP or Laravel framework ))

I'm in love with OctoberCMS and i created also very complex websites full of customizations.This framework helped me a lot and is more intuitive than pure Laravel, with many tools like the builder plugin, to help developers to avoid to write several lines keeping the work very simple

Pros

The easy setup and a fully ready to go website is what makes OctoberCMS so good.There are many templates and plugins to include with no effort and you are sure that every feature you include in your project is well written and has a good code quality.And if you can't find what you need in the marketplace, you could easily create your plugin or extend existing ones to build what you need!

Cons

Many customers asks for easy customizable templates that are often a challenge to do.Unfortunately OctoberCMS has a poor drag 'n drop page building and customization.

OctoberCMS has helped me build dozens of websites for clients, websites for hotels, restaurants, agencies, etc.And it has really helped my business to grow, I'm very thankfull for this, and I will continue to support OctoberCMS by paying the licenses and contributing in every way I can.And of course, recommending it to every developer I know!

Pros

I like the fact that it's very easy to customize, themes are totally customizable, you can use whatever framework you like and connect it with the backend in a very easy way.Even the backend can be customized with your own colors, styles, etc.Another thing that I like a lot is how easy you can create custom plugins, it's not hard to build plugins that do whatever you want, plus, there's a big community focused on QUALITY that shares useful plugins that you can integrate in a few steps, not like other marketplaces that have tons of plugins that do the same thing, and they do it wrong.

Cons

I think that the only "Con" that I can find is that an average user won't be able to use it fluently, it's built for developers and developers adapt it for the average user.But as I said, it's focused on developers, so it's not really something that bothers me as one.

OctoberCMS is now my CMS of choice and I use it for all my clients sites. Not a single complaint about it really, great to use, amazing support, really fast. OctoberCMS might sound too good to be true, but it honestly is just amazing!

Pros

I've been using OctoberCMS for a few years now. It's been a wild ride! It's crazy to see how far the CMS has come with each update, it's gotten easier and faster to build sites and it's only going to get better with future updates! I love OctoberCMS's Turbo Router that means pages load extremely fast and fluidly. Tailor is an amazing feature that while with a bit of a learning curve, is super easy to add custom editable content to a site :DI'm much more a frontend developer, and more of a hobbyist then a professional. I don't do much coding at all, and October works great for me!

Cons

OctoberCMS sadly doesn't have any up to date video content anymore, and the Tailor explainer video is a poor introduction to the feature. Sadly, the available plugins for OctoberCMS is also quite slim, this is in part not a downside but a testament of how good the Tailer feature is, in part. But I'd love to see more developers contributing. Finding developers to create plugins is also hard, and very expensive, nearly twice what you would expect for WordPress or as a stand alone PHP script!I would also say the the OctoberCMS homepage doesn't inspire much curiosity or excitement in developers browsing the site and I know this first hand from showing it off to other users. Showcasing the features OctoberCMS has would work a treat!

We've built about 500 websites with October CMS in the last 4 years, none of which have ever been problematic in any way. Security, system updates and support from the October team have all been solid. I might add this is also essential to our business, since we are a small company of just a few people, the lack of hassle also enables us to serve a relatively big clientele.

Pros

This is a flatfile CMS running on Laravel. We installed it and without knowing anyting we had our first website running in a few days including custom plugins we setup from scratch. Everything is transparent, well documented and just a joy to work with for development. Special mention: the easily customizable and dummy-proof backend makes this a winner for supporting our customers.

Cons

Not saying everything is perfect, but can't really recall any specific drawbacks we have experienced working with this CMS. Once we got our ideal setup figured out it was pretty much smooth sailing from there on.

Reason for choosing October CMS

Flatfile systems are very handy for developers and webdesigners alike, what you see is what you get. Plus this runs on the Laravel framework (it's PHP but now you will like it), that made the choice easy. Also, October uses pretty much only top-tier industry standard components, and we absolutely wanted to steer clear of homebrew territory.

I started using it from an early version and it evolved so much with very nice features!

Cons

Froala is ok overall, but I would like a better and more customizable richeditor.

October is one of the developer friendly platforms there is on top of Laravel. You can literally do anything with it, and very fast with an inclusive UX/UI for both backend admin and front end web.

Pros

Leverage all the Laravel niceties while having a wonderfully useable content management system for your clients. Building out new applications with Octobers yaml based form parsing and object relationships is fantastic. Could you build more strict API based products with Laravel only? yes. But when you consider UX and UI and dashboard pages plus front end facing views, it's really really hard to beat October CMS.

Cons

It's not for the totally un-web initiated. A decent level of HTML/javascript and structural object thinking I think are a must. It's fine for setup and deliver for use to customers in my opinion, but not expecting inexperience to change manage per se.

Easy to customize, to deploy, to upgrade with new features. All my website or apps, are made with october but each project is different and requires not same features, OctoberCMS brings us flexibility in our day to day development combined with the power of a framework like Laravel

Pros

The community is always ready to help via forum, discord,...Easy to install and customize for any project of website or web apps. We can use it as a CMS with backend and frontend, but we can also use it like an API to transfer datas to a VueJS/React App.We can develop any new features easily thanks to the plugin system, and also thansk to Laravel, you could use any other packages.

Cons

At the moment, we don't like something least in October CMS

Cons

A better file manager in the backend where I can copy or move files around.

Overall it is excellent. Didn't yet find a thing I needed and wasn't able to implement or find a plugin for.

Pros

Programmer friendliness - Ease of translating the mental model to the software product. Backend gives you already most of the things you need to manage everything, especially the data model.

Cons

Update process can sometimes break the database. I cannot get a grip of how to safely update everything without fear of losing old data. Maybe because my product is old and has gone through many CMS major versions upgrades.

How easy it is to get right into it and start developing components and plugins.

Cons

OctoberCMS is still missing some key elements to be able to customize the backend area just as how i like it. Improvements has been made over the years to add customizations.
