### "AI for GOOD: Descript in Action"

November 6, 2025

4.0

I was introduced to this platform a few years ago, and it has been a game-changer so far, thanks to its ease of use, accuracy, and high production quality.

Pros

Descript has simplified video editing for me by a landslide! I no longer spend my time analyzing frame after frame, decoding what is said, and creating manual captions. The use of AI in this instance is constructive!

Cons

I think I wish there were more caption designs for the videos that I edit -- just to switch up the appearance.

### "The podcast editing tool that has helped us scale our podcast editing agency"

May 19, 2021

5.0

Descript helps my team collaborate with clients on their podcast episodes. Hosts give us their recordings and then they leave us feedback in the form of comments on the transcript. It makes communication clear for everyone on our team and the collaboration features make it possible for us to have our remote team. We are able to help our clients sound their best with the filler word detection, something that would not be an effective option if we were editing with audio alone.

Pros

I love how easy it is to edit audio using the auto transcription. It allows for other great features like filler word and word gap detection/removal. The integration with Zapier allows us to import new media, and the publishing integrations allow us to export to hosts and other apps we use in our clients workflows.

Cons

For more advanced editing, I wish there were integrations with Adobe Audition that would make it easy to locate spots that have been commented on and then reimport or sync the changes. For our workflow, I would also love if we could utilize an API to directly integrate Descript with our workflow rather than needing to utilize Zapier.

Reason for choosing Descript

Descript is incredibly user friendly, while Heisenberg was difficult to start using.

I used to use Audition but it was a difficult software to train other team members on. While I still use Audition for some more advanced editing, 95% of our podcast editing takes place on Descript now because it streamlines the editing process for our whole team.

### "AI Avatar features didn't work — and neither did the refund promise"

June 15, 2026

1.0

This is your chance to tie it all together as a narrative — here's a draft: "I went into Descript hoping to use the AI Avatar and Underlord assistant to create a video efficiently. Instead, I spent multiple consecutive days fighting a platform that gave contradictory guidance at every turn — each fix Underlord suggested broke something else — while AI credits were deducted for Avatar generations that never even completed. I eventually hired a professional AI consultant to help, and even she couldn't produce a usable result after a full day of work. We abandoned Descript entirely and started over elsewhere. To Descript's credit, support initially acknowledged these failures: they refunded $400 and offered an additional $545.48 in writing, which I accepted. But that second refund was never issued, and my follow-ups went unanswered. Overall, this wasn't just a product that didn't work for my use case — it was a company that didn't follow through on its own commitments once the product failed. I'd think twice before relying on Descript's AI Avatar features for anything time-sensitive or important, and I'd get any refund promises in writing with a clear timeline attached.

Pros

Honestly, very little. The interface looks polished and the marketing promises a lot, but in my actual experience, the AI Avatar and Underlord features didn't deliver, and Descript's support didn't follow through on commitments they made in writing either.

Cons

The AI Avatar feature failed to complete generations while still deducting AI credits — money and credits gone for nothing. Underlord, the AI assistant, gave contradictory guidance throughout: every fix it suggested created a new problem, sending me in circles for days. I brought in an outside AI consultant for a full day of dedicated help, and even she couldn't get a usable result out of the platform. Beyond the product itself, support's handling of this was worse. After acknowledging these failures, Descript offered me a refund of $545.48 in writing, which I accepted — but that refund was never issued, and follow-up emails went unanswered. A company that won't honor its own written commitments is a serious red flag, separate from any product bugs.

### "Misleading plan. Heavy bots presence with zero support. "

April 7, 2026

2.0

The trial/free plan is a major lure to move you to paid. This is without providing support or real-time usage. The trial/free plan claims each month, you are provided with usage credits/minutes. But my experience 1st used there was NO monthly minutes provided, only big+bold adv to upgrade to a paid plan. Misleading bots with zero support.

Pros

The easy file upload process. That's it. The only good thing is that file uploading is fairly easy to do.

Cons

Almost everything else is a pain. The app/site is not particularly user-friendly. The bots are constantly popping up to urge a pay plan, which would happen if full-service were available. At the very least, a 90-day assessment. Descript DOES NOT offer a full trial/free plan and is therefore NOT a good video editing tool.

### "Descript is the tool to use!"

December 22, 2025

4.0

My overall experience was great I enjoyed the tool learning curve. It’s great for someone like me who is learning to edit. Descript makes it easy and enjoyable. It has strong AI features as well. I would definitely use it again.

Pros

I appreciate how you can upload a full video on the descipt platform and it takes the best video clips for you. Descript saves you time on editing and is user friendly. No more long hours wasted on editing. It is a platform for beginners who are learning to edit. Great at transcriptions and removing filler words.

Cons

I find that if you have larger files it may take longer to edit and may slow performance on your chrome book or an older computer. It depends what type of desktop your using. If you can afford the higher tiers they have great features.

### "Descript has deteriorated to the point of being unusable"

September 27, 2025

1.0

Unfortunately, the developers have slowly destroyed what was a fantastic tool. This has been very sad to watch. I truly enjoyed using Descript before and raved about it to everyone. The fact that the developers push new updates and features at a seemingly daily basis seems to be at the heart of things. Rather than a thoughtful process of preserving what people loved about the software and methodically stepping out enhancements, the tool has slowly devolved into an unreliable, unpleasant, and unusable tool.

Pros

Descript USED to be my favourite tool for screen recordings and voice overs. The previous version (about a year ago) was reliable, easy to use, and had all the features to expedite workflow in going from a raw screen recording to a polished video.

Cons

The current software is unusable. The most significant issues are in corrupted and failed recordings. Short segments (roughly a word or two in length) are randomly dropped at multiple points in a recording, and in other cases the recording stops (without warning) midway through. More generally, where once the editor was slick and responsive, it has become glitchy and laggy. It does not accurately show the video in the timeline (so it is not synced with the audio, making edits almost impossible). My last few recordings I tried multiple times, but each one had major errors and I finally gave up, cancelled my subscription, and moved onto other software tools.

Switched from

[Camtasia](https://www.capterra.com/p/203013/Camtasia/)

Descript initially offered faster and smoother workflow. (For my latest recordings I switched back to Camtasia as it is more reliable, even though it is slower.)

### "Lost Edits, Unclear Answers, and a Refund Framed as a “Courtesy”"

January 20, 2026

1.0

We had a very frustrating experience with Descript and their support. We used Descript to record and edit several videos. The edits were done around May, mainly using the web app. When we opened those same projects in December, many of them looked like raw recordings again. Cuts were missing and effects were missing. Support and engineering told us they checked their logs and only saw “creation → recording → transcription,” and they said they could not find proof the edits were ever made. That explanation does not match what we saw in the app. The affected videos show two project backup files. In Descript, backups only appear after you start editing (the app even says so). But when we checked other projects that we know are raw, those do not show any backup files. We asked a simple question: if backups appear only after editing, why do the “raw” affected videos have two backups while truly raw videos have none? They did not answer this clearly. One rep also said they noticed a spike in network errors in May. That is exactly when the edits were done, which makes it very likely the edits did not save or sync correctly. Instead of admitting this could be the cause, support kept pointing to “no logs of edits” and that it was our fault. They refunded one month, but called it a “courtesy.” That was disappointing. We also stopped using Descript while they were investigating because we did not feel it was safe to keep working in the platform. If that one-month refund was meant to cover the time we could not use the service during the investigation, that still does not address the real damage. We lost many hours of work, we paid our editor hourly, and we paid for the subscription for convenience and reliability. For the amount of inconvenience and loss we experienced, one month is clearly not enough.

Pros

Descript is easy to use for recording and basic editing, and the workflow is convenient when everything works. The web app makes it simple to access projects without installing heavy software, and the built-in tools for transcription and quick edits can save time.

Cons

Reliability and support follow-through. Projects edited months earlier appeared as raw recordings later, with missing cuts and effects. Support could not recover the edits and did not clearly explain why affected projects had backup files while truly raw projects did not. The response felt dismissive.

### "Too many bugs. Not worth the money. "

July 2, 2025

1.0

I have lost so much time due to bugs and performance issues. Files losing audio randomly, projects taking forever to load and freezing every other second, the software crashing in the middle of a recording session. Far too many bugs to count. My workflow is essentially nonexistent because i'm constantly troubleshooting. Generally the support people are helpful, but i can only spend so much time talking in circles with their AI assistant before moving to a person to help me fix the problems caused by the software.

Pros

I like the idea of this program. On paper it seems very helpful. The text based editing helps me map out my episodes and some of the tools help me repurpose clips and stuff.

Cons

There are far too many bugs for it to be useful. I'm not exaggerating when i say that i have to deal with multiple BIG problems every day. I've gotten maybe a quarter of the work done that i've needed to. This software's performance is just terrible.

### "A perfect tool for video editing with adding caption."

March 20, 2026

5.0

Its been fantastic using this tool. Especially the monthly free credits is exceptional and non like others.

Pros

I love the captions very much. With Descript, I am able to add caption to all my Youtube videos. Also the transcription is so smooth and fast.

Cons

Its a bit slow to edit and make changes to captions. You will have to highlight the sentences one after the other.

### "Impressive ease for video editing. "

September 25, 2025

5.0

I have been very impressed with the speed and efficiency of Descript for editing (I use it for 15-45 minute training videos primarily of me to screen, and then add examples and annotations on top). It was intuitive to learn and I did so without support, despite being a total novice. It has saved me a lot of time and money I could have spent on someone doing it for me.

Pros

The ability to edit by removing words and chunks from the transcript is superb - it really makes editing a breeze for a complete amateur (like me). I also like how I can add images, notes, titles and so on to the video either on top of the recording or by insertion. The captions function is great, and surprisingly accurate.

Cons

I'm an amateur editor (I use it to create training courses in the main) so I'm not sure what I'm missing, but really there's nothing I would immediately change. It's great.

### "I use Descript for multiple things!"

September 13, 2021

5.0

Editing video and audio for podcasts is so much easier in Descript. I can see exactly what I am editing out and it has made my workflow about twice as fast!

Pros

I love that to edit the audio or video, you just make the edits in the transcription instead of trying to find the exact place in the audio file. Makes it so much easier! My favorite is that it can take out all the "filler words" like "um" in about 2 clicks and make the audio sound great! So much faster than how I was doing it before with having to listen and take them out one at a time.

Cons

There are constant updates to the software, about 1 a week. This can be annoying since there is always a pop-up that says you need to update and restart almost everytime I open the app. Also, if you have multiple accounts (I have multiple clients I work with), it is hard to sign out of one account and then sign into another. Not sure why this isn't straightforward, but often when I sign out of one account and then try to sign into another, it just puts me back into the same account.

### "Potential game changer for podcast editing"

May 18, 2021

4.0

The concept is amazing and could save hours on a podcast edit… but, it just doesn't work correctly or as you would expect a lot of the time. Once the automated transcription improves and the workflow stabilizes, this could potentially replace the various tools I use to edit audio and video.

Pros

The ability to edit an interview or podcast just by editing the text is incredible. The workflow is fairly straight forward – import audio file, choose how to transcribe, wait…, edit the transcript & audio in various ways, export or publish as needed.

Cons

The automated transcription is good, but not great. There are always little errors that seem obvious to a human – capitalize the first letter in a sentence, don't capitalize a word in the middle of a sentence, abbreviate doctor as Dr. when a name follows, etc. – and they seem to always show up, even when they've been corrected previously, so it's unclear whether the 'machine' is actually 'learning'. The app appears to not be built as a native app for macOS which means it lacks certain core features. The most annoying to me is that the window always opens in the default size (i.e. small) and never remembers the sizing or positioning that I choose every time I open it. The developers are rapidly adding features, but almost too quickly. Once I get used to a feature or function, it doesn't take long for the menu item to be changed or moved (Share, Export, Publish all do similar–though different–things, and have each had their turn as a unique menu item or being grouped together in various ways). I got very efficient at correcting the transcription (which, unfortunately, must be done frequently) until they changed the entire process of editing the transcript.

### "Made scaling my podcast agency so easy!"

May 19, 2021

5.0

We've been able to scale from one podcast client to 20+ in less than a year, and have onboarded 2 editors. It's making it possible for my business to scale rapidly, and revenue to skyrocket!

Pros

I love that I'm able to collaborate with my editing team so that we can implement quick changes from clients no matter who is available. It was super easy to bring in new team members and train them on the workflow as well. I also love how the transcripts make it so much faster than other apps to edit - the combo of seeing words + waveforms (and the search/delete option) cut editing time in half.

Cons

Clicking and dragging still needs some work, not sure yet about the new toolbar. I also really would like to be able to use VSTs to denoise easier, right now the workflow starts in Audition or Pro Tools for any processing (our clients honestly don't understand that they need to record in quiet spaces) and then we bring it into Descript to do the edit.

Alternatives considered

[Adobe Audition](https://www.capterra.com/p/214606/Adobe-Audition/)

Reason for choosing Descript

Just ease of editing & ease of collaboration. Adobe is a significantly higher cost to collab with, and definitely doesn't have the same level of collaboration capability.

### "Works well - with some crucial gaps"

February 26, 2026

4.0

Happy with overall descript experience. Script writing, recording, basic editing are working well. Not being a designer - I can release product demo videos easily

Pros

Liked the AI Voiceover, and the whole recording experience. The webapp is simple to use and learning curve is comparatively less. Making your own AI voice as well working pretty well.

Cons

AI Avatar generation is pretty bad. Unlike AI voice, avatar feels very basic. Descript misses couple of important feature like Zoom in while recording - i don't a how a recording tool can miss that out.

### "Descript has great features for Podcasters, but lacks in areas for Professional Video Editors"

June 22, 2023

4.0

Descript has been a daily tool my team and I use for transcription, podcast editing, and audio editing. It's an amazing tool for seamless collaboration with clients and internal teams without constantly having to upload and download files. And an great tool to add basic cuts and B-roll to clips, however it does have its own set of bugs and a learning curve for new users

Pros

\- Very easy to transcribe audio and manipulate any transcription error- Great collaboration tool with clients and team review, without sending the project file back and forth- Great tool for finding and downloading broll for video- Very easy to add captions to video

Cons

\- Several bugs throughout (the issues changes throughout each update)- No offline mode solution (You have to upload media files to the cloud every time, large files can a long time- A bit of a learning curve for video editing features

Reason for choosing Descript

Seamless collaboration tool and ease of downloading photos and other broll assets

### "Missing link software - hope it sticks to its strengths!"

June 22, 2021

4.0

I love descript (although less than I did since the video editing features were added) Descript solves several problems for me. It helps both me and my clients go through interviews more quickly and accurately - and helps with dialogue choices early on in an edit. The compilations I make in Descript I can recreate easily and quickly in Premiere. And then at the end of my process I can output with subtitles - accurately and easily. If I am making animations then I can get accurately time-stamped voice recordings and generate audiograms which make it easy to time the animations precisely.

Pros

The product is pretty easy to use straight off the bat but its when you get the transcripts back that things really get interesting. The way the text and audio/video files are linked is totally special. You can change one and the other follows. You can copy and paste text and the media comes along too. Once you've compiled your rough you can export

Cons

Software feels a bit slower and bloated now due to the addition of the editing features - and a bit more sensitive to handle. I have to be more accurate when I click!

### "Fantastic Must Have Software!"

June 23, 2021

5.0

Overall the experience is extremely positive, so much so I now use this software daily. The business benefits to me are astounding, allowing me to transcribe, overdub and use the many features on descript to make my life easier, make me more productive and increase my efficiency.

Pros

Transcription, text search, the ability to use the software effortlessly means this is a crucial piece of software to me both personally and professionally. I love the feature of after transcription, clicking on a word and playing the video from there, such a simple feature but I am sure was very hard to implement from a programming perspective.

Cons

I think it would be great to see a thumbnail overview of projects currently being worked on, having that option as well as list view would be very helpful to me. Sometimes the software can be buggy in terms of asking something to be transcribed and it says this cannot be completed at this time. The other thing I like least is after you've imported multiple files and transcribed them, the software can re-order them, then the videos and transcription are out of sequence, there is no easy way to re-order them and get them to where you want them to be.

### "The easiest podcast editor I found."

August 7, 2023

5.0

I am a new podcaster and I'm in love with Descript. I can't afford to pay an editor and Descript suits my needs. I believe I can even use it to record the podcast but I haven't played with that yet.

Pros

Descript takes all the filler sounds out of your recording - um, uh, etc. You can shorten long pauses - dead air. I love editing from the transcript. I have a mild tremor so fiddling with the usual sound editing software is difficult. It takes forever to get it at just the right spot. With Descript, I make the change in the transcript and Descript makes the change in the audio. I can delete words or whole sentences. I can even move things around. I believe you can train it to your voice so you can add words to the transcript and the audio file will sound like it was there from the start. It's magical!

Cons

If I want to use the transcription for other purposes, like a blog, it requires a lot of editing. Sometimes sentences aren't structured right and sometimes words are wrong. It's not all that time consuming, just annoying.

### "Wouldn't know how to podcasts without Descript !"

June 15, 2021

5.0

Descript is a tool that blows me away. Without Descript, I would literally not podcast at all. The ease of working in text most of the time is a game changer, allowing me to focus on content.

Pros

I like most the automatic transcription and the ability to edit in TEXT rather than in waveform. For podcasting, Descript cuts 90% of my editing time. It is such a productivity booster and allows me to spend more time on editing the content, the flow, arranging pieces, etc.

Cons

File management can be confusing. Text editing interface could be a tad more fluent. I demand German language transcription :-).

### "Descript - audio and text editing"

June 16, 2021

5.0

Pros

The transcription and editing capabilities is are what I use most. I can edit a podcast and have it blog ready in a very short amount of time. I like that I can edit out filler words painlessly with the touch of a button. Also, the tutorials have been a huge help AND the couple of times I've needed to reach out for help, I've found the Customer Support to be responsive and friendly. No downtime necessary to get my questions answered in a fast and timely manner.

Cons

I'd like to see the voice recognition and transcription continue to be improved. Descript does a great job, but the better it becomes, the faster I get due to having less corrections. Still, my editing is a simpler process now than it was before.

### "Five Stars Across the Board"

May 19, 2021

5.0

It's been wonderful. Since I discovered this at Podcast Movement in 2019 it's revolutionized production on the show. I've also used it to in my day job too to help my company do training videos. It's a software I use everyday.

Pros

Descript is so easy to use. It's cut down the editing time for our podcast interviews and the overall show while increasing our quality. With the ongoing new features too, like Overdub and the ability to generate Audiograms, the service continues to get better. The transcripts have also allowed us to increase the accessibility for our podcast and the generated videos while helping to keep costs down (and as the AI continues to improve, our time to correct transcripts as also gone down)

Cons

The feature that needs attention is how the software deals with silence. Long silences are treated as "speakers" with the AI is deciding who it detects speaking. That causes issues with transcript correction. In addition, things that are actual silence can be removed, such as laughter or crosstalking or words the AI might not know. That adds extra editing time so those things are part of the final product. I'm hoping this aspect gets updated soon.

4.0

It's an incredible tool that we use for all our podcasts and videos. It saves tons of time and improves quality and allows tight collaboration. It's a magical use of AI technology for audio and video editing.

Pros

The killer feature of this product is the ability to edit text and audio or video simultaneously. You can edit each and the other immediately updates, so it's possible to "read" your entire show as well as edit in depth by words or by frames or samples when necessary. It's wonderful to have the whole project in the cloud with comments shared like a Google Doc for collaboration. The automatic transcription works pretty well with clear speakers. Exporting to audio files or DAW projects works well.

Cons

The automatic edits at word boundaries can be a little rough and need hand touching up. Sometimes the software needs to be restarted to take into account a new update. Occasional slipping of time or data due to software updates or collaboration. Could still use a "stem" export function in addition to flattened audio and DAW projects. It would be great to improve automated transcription further, but this is a hard problem.

### "My favorite video/audio editor"

June 23, 2021

5.0

Pros

I use this software everyday and with every update it becomes more powerful. My favorite feature has to be how easy editing is.

Cons

The only con I have is that aligning tracks in the multitrack view can be difficult. I wish there was a snapping feature to line up video and audio clips easier.
