I can edit out filler words quickly, and I love having a transcript of the episode ready for some quick edits. Cons It's a little hard to get used to some of the other features, but the tutorial videos help. Pros It saves me about half the time to edit a podcast or event video for work. The text editing video function is genius. Cons I’d like it if I could replace and edit words faster. That, along with the ability to quickly scan the whole thing and remove filler words, mean that this is one of the programs that I recommend to anyone who produces a podcast/video Cons The transcriber doesn't do very well with accents other than North American ones. Makes editing audio simple and fast. Pros I love that I can basically edit my podcast episodes by working with what is essentially a word doc. The auto transcriptions are super helpful for pulling quote, clips, and soundbites - especially if I ever go back through and just want to skim the content (without having to listen for a specific section of the episode. Cons I don't have many cons to share. If I were using the transcripts as part of my finished product I might like them to be a bit more accurate, but it looks like there are frequent updates to make them more and more spot on (with easy enough features to customize and dial in the exact transcript where needed). No issues Pros I like how realistic the voice sounds on the text to speech feature and also like how you can use your own voice which is probably one of the best features. Pros Editing a video or audio on the basis of the transcription, i.e. practically editing text, makes life so much easier. I love that it's the only tool I need for editing videos and audios. The support is outstanding - quick and always personal and nurturing. Love that it's being improved constantly too. It's the first tool ever that I upgraded even before the free trial hours were used. June 15, 2021 5.0 I have deployed Descript at the past two companies I've worked for thanks to it's ease of use and saving me hours of manual editing and production time. Pros I love having a global perspective of the content in a video or audio file by reading the automatic transcription. When I have a video in a traditional linear editor I have no perspective of what content falls where, this requires me to watch the content in full, take notes, and then start editing. With Descript I can get context by skimming the text and start editing almost immediately! Cons Playback and editing controls are not intuitive, opposite functionality of other mainstream products. I can export just the selections I need - it helps me when I need to bang out a produced story on a deadline and I am sorting through hours of tape! Editing and selecting the words my subjects have said is so useful. It also helps me write my script for my story - I can copy/paste the text of what my subject says. Cons It's not totally intuitive how to select or expert ambient noise, and I make all of my teeny-tiny edits (ums, uhs) in a different audio editor. Transcribing my videos so then I can have closed captions and also a Blog is something that I was doing anyway. But then adding in video editing... and overdubbing... are you kidding me?! this is an industry game changer. Cons I had a problem once where the video wouldn't export. But the customer service jumped in right away and was very helpful. and the program is so well designed that I figured it out by myself before the customer service even return to my email within the next hour. I would recommend this product to any company that wants to quickly transcribe meetings and save hours and hours of work. Pros The main reason we use Descript is to transcribe meetings. It takes just a few minutes to transcribe an hour long meeting, and it saves us the time of doing it ourselves with a human. We can then easily reference the meeting later when we need to create content based on what was said in the meeting. Cons Nothing so far. I haven't used all the features, and although it's primarily used for podcasts and videos, we haven't yet used all of these features at our company. July 24, 2021 5.0 Pros I was truly deeply excited when I first used the software. And that's rare for me! Jam packing so many features into one software. Amazing. Video editing by editing text. Amazing automatic transcriptions. Closed captioning. Overdubbing with a robot voice clone that's just like my own. This is truly amazing! Cons I really have nothing to complain about. the automatic transcriptions are not perfect out of the box, but they can't be. I don't expect them to be. Pros This software is so easy to use for editing podcasts that it's ridiculous. If you can edit a Word Document, you can edit your podcast. I also like how they make it easy to add voice recordings and export a section into an audiogram for social media Cons The AI transcription could be better. If you're going to use it for a podcast transcript for your website, I would suggest paying for the white glove transcription otherwise you'll spend a ton of time editing it. My one regret is I didn't discover it sooner. Not only is it a great product, but it's constantly getting better. It's exciting to be a part of! Pros It does so many things that I need it to do. It handles the end-to-end process of recording, editing, polishing and presenting audio and visual self-created media, and does it with class. The 'hook' that originally set me on to the software was the functionality of being able to edit text and have the audio automatically edited. Previously I was using standard audio editing software, and because I do a lot of editing (mid sentence edits, changing the location of words) I would probably have had a breakdown if I hadn't found Descript. Cons I think it's not quite right to describe these as 'cons' as the software is continually being updated, and users finding areas for improvement is part of the process. As you use the software more, you discover things that you would like to have differently. For example, at the moment, you can't pause the Screen Recorder - not a massive issue because you can delete gaps automatically - but still something that should be fairly easy to add. These issues don't bother me, because I know I can send an email and there is a high likelihood that the issue will be fixed. Review Source MH Max H. It's incredibly powerful, but also intuitive and easy to use. There are plenty of training resources and even for a novice it's not out of the question to hit the ground running on day one! We use it for making training videos, editing podcasts, recording client meetings, writing website copy… the list goes on. I am always recommending it to my friends. Pros I love how I can edit the text and that changes the audio and video along with it. Cons Doing more complicated video editing can get a little clunky but that is perhaps just due to user error. Transcripts for content repurposeing. Fast video output. Pros I got this tool for captioning initially, now I use it for all my videos. It's easy to use and the support was good. I also found creative ways to use the timeline to animate images. The control over audio gain, compression etc. Cons No COPY and PASTE function for video clips. How clips are pinned is still a bit of a mystery to me. Inability to save editing templates. No green screen support. Why do clips shorten from the back? Switched from [Kapwing](https://www.capterra.com/p/180041/Kapwing/) The trial on this was better so I was willing to learn it, plus the UX was better. Never again will I edit audio blindly - Descript is SO helpful in storytelling, and scripting narrations, and overall getting a better grasp on what you have in your audio. I love being able to add multiple compositions into a single project - it keeps things wonderfully organized. Can't wait to see how this solution evolves. Pros There is absolutely nothing in this world that is easier to use than Descript. It has saved me HOURS of work compared to Camtasia (which is really complicated and hard to learn). You can cut parts out of the video by deleting words from a transcript that Descript automatically generates, and remove filler words (um, ah) with a single click. The final video is better than when I use Camtasia to cut things down to the millisecond. It's a genius piece of software and everyone should try it. Not only that it makes audiograms and provides transcription too Cons The cost. I do not need to use Descript all the time, only when I have projects which may be once every other month. So I cant justify a yearly cost.
