### "AI for GOOD: Descript in Action"

November 6, 2025

4.0

I was introduced to this platform a few years ago, and it has been a game-changer so far, thanks to its ease of use, accuracy, and high production quality.

Pros

Descript has simplified video editing for me by a landslide! I no longer spend my time analyzing frame after frame, decoding what is said, and creating manual captions. The use of AI in this instance is constructive!

Cons

I think I wish there were more caption designs for the videos that I edit -- just to switch up the appearance.

### "The podcast editing tool that has helped us scale our podcast editing agency"

May 19, 2021

5.0

Descript helps my team collaborate with clients on their podcast episodes. Hosts give us their recordings and then they leave us feedback in the form of comments on the transcript. It makes communication clear for everyone on our team and the collaboration features make it possible for us to have our remote team. We are able to help our clients sound their best with the filler word detection, something that would not be an effective option if we were editing with audio alone.

Pros

I love how easy it is to edit audio using the auto transcription. It allows for other great features like filler word and word gap detection/removal. The integration with Zapier allows us to import new media, and the publishing integrations allow us to export to hosts and other apps we use in our clients workflows.

Cons

For more advanced editing, I wish there were integrations with Adobe Audition that would make it easy to locate spots that have been commented on and then reimport or sync the changes. For our workflow, I would also love if we could utilize an API to directly integrate Descript with our workflow rather than needing to utilize Zapier.

Reason for choosing Descript

Descript is incredibly user friendly, while Heisenberg was difficult to start using.

I used to use Audition but it was a difficult software to train other team members on. While I still use Audition for some more advanced editing, 95% of our podcast editing takes place on Descript now because it streamlines the editing process for our whole team.

### "Lost Edits, Unclear Answers, and a Refund Framed as a “Courtesy”"

January 20, 2026

1.0

We had a very frustrating experience with Descript and their support. We used Descript to record and edit several videos. The edits were done around May, mainly using the web app. When we opened those same projects in December, many of them looked like raw recordings again. Cuts were missing and effects were missing. Support and engineering told us they checked their logs and only saw “creation → recording → transcription,” and they said they could not find proof the edits were ever made. That explanation does not match what we saw in the app. The affected videos show two project backup files. In Descript, backups only appear after you start editing (the app even says so). But when we checked other projects that we know are raw, those do not show any backup files. We asked a simple question: if backups appear only after editing, why do the “raw” affected videos have two backups while truly raw videos have none? They did not answer this clearly. One rep also said they noticed a spike in network errors in May. That is exactly when the edits were done, which makes it very likely the edits did not save or sync correctly. Instead of admitting this could be the cause, support kept pointing to “no logs of edits” and that it was our fault. They refunded one month, but called it a “courtesy.” That was disappointing. We also stopped using Descript while they were investigating because we did not feel it was safe to keep working in the platform. If that one-month refund was meant to cover the time we could not use the service during the investigation, that still does not address the real damage. We lost many hours of work, we paid our editor hourly, and we paid for the subscription for convenience and reliability. For the amount of inconvenience and loss we experienced, one month is clearly not enough.

Pros

Descript is easy to use for recording and basic editing, and the workflow is convenient when everything works. The web app makes it simple to access projects without installing heavy software, and the built-in tools for transcription and quick edits can save time.

Cons

Reliability and support follow-through. Projects edited months earlier appeared as raw recordings later, with missing cuts and effects. Support could not recover the edits and did not clearly explain why affected projects had backup files while truly raw projects did not. The response felt dismissive.

### "A perfect tool for video editing with adding caption."

March 20, 2026

5.0

Its been fantastic using this tool. Especially the monthly free credits is exceptional and non like others.

Pros

I love the captions very much. With Descript, I am able to add caption to all my Youtube videos. Also the transcription is so smooth and fast.

Cons

Its a bit slow to edit and make changes to captions. You will have to highlight the sentences one after the other.

### "For Perfect Transcriptions"

June 7, 2021

5.0

This is a must-have product that will simplify your life. You won't realize how much time it saves until you use it. Fortunately, there is a fantastic free trial to try it out. The shortcuts are really useful and will save you a significant amount of time. There is a lot to learn, but once you do, the software will save your life.

Pros

1\. Descript's key feature is how it transcribes your audio and converts it into an editable word document. I was astounded to discover how simple it was to effectively cut and paste words while simultaneously moving the audio waveforms. 2. It makes use of the Google speech to text engine, which has been demonstrated to be the market leader in numerous studies. 3. Transcripts are attractive and are designated by individuals. With just one click, you can securely send transcripts with video or audio.

Cons

1\. It becomes slow with time, and you must pay to utilize it on a regular basis. 2. Although the automatic, entry-level version of Descript has a transcribing accuracy of roughly 95%, there are still grammatical problems. 3. It takes longer than I expected to look over transcriptions and revise them later, so I have to spend more time correcting the transcripts even during my working hours.

### "Descript has deteriorated to the point of being unusable"

September 27, 2025

1.0

Unfortunately, the developers have slowly destroyed what was a fantastic tool. This has been very sad to watch. I truly enjoyed using Descript before and raved about it to everyone. The fact that the developers push new updates and features at a seemingly daily basis seems to be at the heart of things. Rather than a thoughtful process of preserving what people loved about the software and methodically stepping out enhancements, the tool has slowly devolved into an unreliable, unpleasant, and unusable tool.

Pros

Descript USED to be my favourite tool for screen recordings and voice overs. The previous version (about a year ago) was reliable, easy to use, and had all the features to expedite workflow in going from a raw screen recording to a polished video.

Cons

The current software is unusable. The most significant issues are in corrupted and failed recordings. Short segments (roughly a word or two in length) are randomly dropped at multiple points in a recording, and in other cases the recording stops (without warning) midway through. More generally, where once the editor was slick and responsive, it has become glitchy and laggy. It does not accurately show the video in the timeline (so it is not synced with the audio, making edits almost impossible). My last few recordings I tried multiple times, but each one had major errors and I finally gave up, cancelled my subscription, and moved onto other software tools.

Switched from

[Camtasia](https://www.capterra.com/p/203013/Camtasia/)

Descript initially offered faster and smoother workflow. (For my latest recordings I switched back to Camtasia as it is more reliable, even though it is slower.)

### "Descript - Review From A Rookie"

April 29, 2024

5.0

Overall ok. Fix the 2 issues described above and I go from an 8 to a 9.5

Pros

I like the text based editing feature. The AI tools are good as well.

Cons

The pricing is a little high. I have to spend too much time cleaning up the transcript between transcript errors and Speaker labels, If those worked well, I could greatly reduce the time it takes me to get a podcast ready to publish.

### "Too many bugs. Not worth the money. "

July 2, 2025

1.0

I have lost so much time due to bugs and performance issues. Files losing audio randomly, projects taking forever to load and freezing every other second, the software crashing in the middle of a recording session. Far too many bugs to count. My workflow is essentially nonexistent because i'm constantly troubleshooting. Generally the support people are helpful, but i can only spend so much time talking in circles with their AI assistant before moving to a person to help me fix the problems caused by the software.

Pros

I like the idea of this program. On paper it seems very helpful. The text based editing helps me map out my episodes and some of the tools help me repurpose clips and stuff.

Cons

There are far too many bugs for it to be useful. I'm not exaggerating when i say that i have to deal with multiple BIG problems every day. I've gotten maybe a quarter of the work done that i've needed to. This software's performance is just terrible.

### "Descript is the tool to use!"

December 22, 2025

4.0

My overall experience was great I enjoyed the tool learning curve. It’s great for someone like me who is learning to edit. Descript makes it easy and enjoyable. It has strong AI features as well. I would definitely use it again.

Pros

I appreciate how you can upload a full video on the descipt platform and it takes the best video clips for you. Descript saves you time on editing and is user friendly. No more long hours wasted on editing. It is a platform for beginners who are learning to edit. Great at transcriptions and removing filler words.

Cons

I find that if you have larger files it may take longer to edit and may slow performance on your chrome book or an older computer. It depends what type of desktop your using. If you can afford the higher tiers they have great features.

I have been very impressed with the speed and efficiency of Descript for editing (I use it for 15-45 minute training videos primarily of me to screen, and then add examples and annotations on top). It was intuitive to learn and I did so without support, despite being a total novice. It has saved me a lot of time and money I could have spent on someone doing it for me.

Pros

The ability to edit by removing words and chunks from the transcript is superb - it really makes editing a breeze for a complete amateur (like me). I also like how I can add images, notes, titles and so on to the video either on top of the recording or by insertion. The captions function is great, and surprisingly accurate.

Cons

I'm an amateur editor (I use it to create training courses in the main) so I'm not sure what I'm missing, but really there's nothing I would immediately change. It's great.

### "Take the frustration out of audio/video editing."

July 28, 2021

5.0

Pros

I love that Descript makes editing video and audio content so easy. And the transcriptions are so accurate it's scary! This software has saved me countless hours but more importantly removes so many barriers that keep people from getting started with creating video and audio content.

Cons

The editor UI is a bit clunky and compressed, I feel like the editor area should be larger which might make it even easier to use.

### "The best AI for image/video editing and transcription"

June 11, 2023

5.0

My overall experience has been one of the best I have had with AI’s. I just love how Descript works and offers a wide variety of functions that can make my work more bearable and easy.

Pros

The things that I liked the most about Descript is the transcription tool, because you can edit it easily and to various languages. I also liked the video editing tool, because it has many options for you to edit and decor your video with different and original graphics (it has fun gifs, images, videos, and you can even upload your own multimedia material). Finally, I can say that Descript is very complete and has efficient tools that are really easy to use.

Cons

There’s nothing I would complain about on the features, tools or functionality of Descript.

### "Transformative product with lots of bugs to work through"

June 17, 2021

5.0

We save tons of time with Descript. It also helps us collaborate as producers (it's so easy to jump into a project and help with a specific subtask). It also helps us collaborate with external stakeholders, like clients or consultants. They can see the progress, provide feedback in a simple way and even write into it if we give them that access.

Pros

Editing text instead of audio has revolutionized my company's workflow. We make podcasts and it has saved us tons of time to use Descript for highly produced shows. It doesn't really help with weekly shows that require minimal editing and fast turnarounds. But for months-long narrative projects, it is so incredibly easy to edit text linked to audio and then script around that. We then export to Audition or Protools to mix and score. But having this step along the way saves many hours of time and improved collaboration with internal and external people.

Cons

It's really buggy! Things stop working frequently. Then Descript fixes it. Then there's another bug. I have faith that they'll get to a point where I'm not running into bugs every week or every few days, but it is frustrating for now.

Reason for choosing Descript

Descript replaces key parts of our workflow with Adobe Audition and Avid Pro Tools. But it does not replace them. We still use both of these for other projects and to mix/score/fine tune the exports out of Descript.

### "Descript has made transcription better"

May 12, 2022

4.0

Pros

The features i liked about Descript are, -it has a automatic speech to text. -you can also change settings to suit what's best for the user - it's friendly user - one can edit videos as well - it has different variety options in one software which makes it accessible - fike documents are kept safe and its a trustworthy software which i would recommend to a beginner who doesn't know and wants to learn how to transcribe - and also there are mini courses so one can understand the software better for which ii think it's a great feature to have.

Cons

It tends to mulfunction which makes it difficult to use Tye software can sometimes crash due to having more users on the software which i believe it has to be taken into consideration, considering that its a used software all around

### "My go-to transcription and text-based assembly service!"

It's a solid product that, as mentioned, will change the way podcasts are made in the future.

Pros

Descript is changing the way the next generation will make podcasts. And for old dogs like me too! It's a refreshing break from the DAW-focused world we live in today.

Cons

It's still a bit buggy on my M1 Mac, with frequent crashes/restarts. Always recoverable, but it does make me reticent to more integrate the tool into my workflow.

### "Game Changer"

May 18, 2021

5.0

Overall it's great. As I said earlier, for people who are not experienced with editing software who need to create videos, audio files, podcasts, etc, it's a game changer in terms of ease of use, productivity, and enabling people with not video/audio editing skills.

Pros

Many startups with new products use the terms disruptive, game changer, etc. But, in the end few actually are. Based on my experience, Descript is one of those products that really is a game changer. They've taken a fundamentally different approach to video and audio editing by applying a universally familiar document editing UX to video and audio editing. This removes much of the complexity of traditional editing software and puts it into a format that's accessible by virtually anyone. The integrated transcription function is really useful and the Overdub feature is very cool for being able to make edits without re-recording and splicing in audio. And the way it's all integrated with the cloud with one click publishing makes the usability very smooth and frictionless.

Cons

As with any type of new software and when there's a new UX concept, there is a learning curve and things don't always work the way you would expect. Some people experienced with traditional editing software may find the UX a little limiting, but I don't think that's the type of user Descript is targeting with this solution. I've found the learning curve to be very fast at the beginning , so you can be up and running with it and creating content quickly. Once you need to access more advanced features it takes a little bit of time to figure out where the feature is and how to use it, but nothing out of the ordinary. I think it's just that the initial experience of being able to edit video/audio in a word processor is so good that you are then surprised when some of the more advanced features are not quite as intuitive.

Reason for choosing Descript

I was not really looking for a solution per se. I was searching online for text to speech solutions for doing videos and ended up on Descript's website. Their solution seemed so compelling that downloaded the free trial and then upgraded it later. So, I didn't really consider other products because no one else has the ability to edit using a document editor UX (at least as far as I know.)

### "Not yet stable enough for professional use"

May 19, 2021

4.0

Pros

This is could be a game changing piece of software. it combines transcription and audio editing into one. The option to collaborate in the cloud like a google doc opens up many possibilities. But there is one big downside....

Cons

It is not yet reliable enough. There have been two occasions in last few months where Descript just stopped working. I lost days' worth of work on broadcast critical projects. The first time an entire project wouldn't open and just hung. That meant all of the work for an entire podcast episode was inaccessible. I contacted tech support and tweeted them. I heard nothing back. After a friday and weekend of panic and frustration, the project did open. Perhaps stupidly, i carried on using Descript. A month or so later a Composition (their name for a document within a project) I was working on just stopped working. The error message just said press reload. But that did nothing. Because it is cloud based I had nothing on my hard drive to try and salvage. it just stopped working. i lost at least 8 hours of work. i contacted tech support and their discord server. Still haven't had a response. I had to do the work all over again. If you work in professional audio, sadly my advice is to stay away from Descript till it gets more reliable.

### "Descript "

June 24, 2021

5.0

I think Descript is essential, it has saved my days worth of work, and literally pays for itself in within just a half hour of work

Pros

Top to it’s class transcription software that is expanding so fast with a constant, nearly weekly set of ground breaking advanced updates.

Cons

All white interface is hard on the eyes, I wish we could customize to dark. I am wishing we could bring in an existing video/film edit. Such as a AAF or xml/eel file and collaborate as a team inside Descript.

Reason for choosing Descript

Cost, excellent Demo, speed change f ground breaking developments and improvements and finally its flexibility to use in other areas not only in film, but audio, audiobooks, public meeting transcription, and many, many more applications outside its initial intended use.

### "Descript is an excellent tool that is quite easy to use."

March 17, 2023

5.0

The audio editing and transcribing program Descript is fantastic. In order to clean up an audio recording, it helps to be able to modify a transcript and search for filler words and recurring phrases.

Pros

I appreciate that it is a software-based service that I can have on my laptop and work on whenever I feel the urge to do so. When attempting to detect speakers, its auto transcript performs quite quickly and accurately.

Cons

Unfortunately, the transcript isn't flawless. In order to get an exact translation, human editing is necessary. It's also inferior to programs like Audacity and Adobe Audition for fine-tuning audio.

### "Huge timer saver, with some details to be improved"

June 24, 2021

4.0

I'm happy to use this software for everything to do with speech editing - it saves an enormous amount of time in post-production, and also allows editing as you record. I was disappointed by the Overdub feature - still lots of improvements to be made in terms of natural-sounding speech, but I'm sure this is being improved with each iteration.

Pros

Using the transcription to edit audio and video completely changes the game - so much time is saved by being able to use the text to guide exactly when to clip.

Cons

Responsiveness is still a bit laggy, and compared to other multi-track editors, this still feels at times unwieldy. Transcriptions could also be more accurate, as going through and changing them can take quite a lot of time.

### "Descript - Saves You Time and Money "

June 17, 2021

4.0

This has been a huge time saver in that I no longer have to outsource the audio and video editing. Also, using the screen recording feature allows me to communicate what is on my screen. I can edit the ums and ahs out and clean up the recording before I share the video with team members or clients. This saves time in having to type out what a tricky customer service type problem might entail.

Pros

I really like that as a person with no audio or video editing experience, I can create useable short audio and video content for social media, websites and for sharing information. I no longer have to outsource this editing work to Fivrr.

Cons

As the product grows and more features are added, it become harder to learn the system if you have no editing background.

### "I was amazed! "

July 22, 2023

5.0

I was just testing this platform for the sake of it, but I was amazed! The approach to video editing directly on the transcribed script is very interesting. I thought that removing the silences and filler words was amazing, but finding that it can also replace words by cloning the speaker voice and the AI eye contact effect!... amazing.

Pros

This siftware can be a game changer, its very quick and precise to transcribe and the approach to edit the videos is quite interesting. Automaticaly removes filler words and silences and you can easily edit the videos and audios just by editing the text!

Cons

The video editor should be improved. Not being able to zoom out of the canvas makes editing the videos very hard, since the boundaries are out of the work area.

### "A must-have for every video content creator"

May 14, 2021

5.0

Pros

I have been using Descript for a while now, and have noticed a new series of features being added to the platform. However, even though those additions have been more than welcome, what I consider the platform's top feature is something that has been at its core for quite some time: Descript's transcription tool. In particular, I was really impressed by the accuracy of the transcription tool's AI. If I had to estimate, I would say that the accuracy of the transcriptions Descript has done for my video content has been around 90%, which is really good.

Cons

While the transcription tool has been very good and accurate, I feel that its user interface could be improved. In fact, it has happened to me a few times to accidentally delete parts of a video (since Descript can be used for video editing too), while I was trying to edit some of the captions/subtitles that were created by the tool's automated transcription feature. Luckily, I have also noticed this in time but this could have very well have led to a video having missing parts because of this "accident".

I use Descript to transcribe the debriefs for my cohort-based workshops. It's easy and fast. The participants like having the transcription to go along with the video.

Pros

It's fast to upload a video and fast to transcribe. Speaker recognition is also fast. I don't have to mess around much to get a pretty good transcription.

Cons

It's not 100% accurate yet. (They say 95% and it's at least that accurate.)
